Has attendance ever been an issue for Southern?
I think not! There is no question that Southern, Jackson State and Florida A & M have the largest game attendance at football games. You cannot change facts. Oh and BTW, I read another post about attendance where someone said it was a lie that Grambling fans do not attend Southern games with any regularity. Now that is a lie, at least it is for 4 sets of Grambling fans. I have season books on the 50 yard line and for more than 20 years those Grambling fans are at Southern's games. They OWN season books in Mumford. They live in BR and attend EVERY Southern home game dressed from head to toe in Grambling paraphenalia. Even when Grambling is playing in Grambling or Houston or Lorman or wherever close by, and we always tease them about why aren't they at the Grambling game and they just say they don't want to travel. And there are quite a few others dressed in Grambling paraphenalia cheering for whoever we are playing making it to every game. Now I am not going to post their names, but I'm telling the truth. Anyway, I just wanted to answer that post I saw a while back. This is antedotal, but so so true.
It isn't an excuse offered about buses cancelling for the Indy trip. I didn't go because I had a conference in Austin, but my travel group did not fly out because Wednesday we thought the hurricane was going to be horrible like Andrew and then when it wasn't they just decided not to come because of property damage and 3 households were without lights until Friday morning. That accounts for 23 Jag Nation members who didn't make the trip and 20 of us have not missed a game home or away since 1979.
Why is this argument going on? We are losing football games but we have not and will not lose the tailgating, RV owning, traveling titles. Hell I remember the 70s when we were losing but still had a strong fan base that TRAVELED and SUPPORTED the team. There are fair weather fans among the Nation but the DIEHARDS will be there through thick and thin. I'm sure this is true for other schools.
Get way over this, we all know the schools with the large fan base.
