I just wanted to let you all know who my boss is. I thought that this was rather impressive and she did not even let us know that she made history. She's cooler than a fan and real down to earth.
Lt. Col. Daniels is a native of Prentiss, Mississippi and a graduate of J. E. Johnson High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, and a Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University. Her military education includes the Officer Candidate School, Amphibious Warfare School, Advance Comptroller School, Acquisition Management Course, and the Command and Staff College. Lt. Col. Daniels was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Louisville, Kentucky, and began her active duty career August 13, 1974, at the Basic School, Quantico, Virginia. She has served in many capacities in the Marine Corps, including Minority Affairs Officer, Manpower Division, Headquarters Marine Corps, and as Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Equal Opportunity, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Management Policy), Washington, D. C. Currently, Lt. Col. Daniels is the City Manager for Clinton, Tennessee.
Lt. Col. Daniels has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon. She was the recipient of the 1983 Outstanding Young Women of American Award, the 1985 National Urban League Achievement Award, and the 1991 Dollars and Sense Magazine Achievement Award.
Lt. Col. Daniels is married to Brigadier General Tommy Daniels. They have two children, Rachel and David. .
And if you want to know why she made history. She is the first and only female that made Lt. Col. in the Armed Forces. There is no other black female or female period that made Lt. Col in Uncle Sam's army. She's in Jet magazine and some others for being a black pioneer. That is truly amazing! I can tell my kids that I actually worked for someone who is considered up there with Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and all the others.
