Can department retail stores survive the next few years?

I think they can survive, and I think they will survive. However, they must change the way they operate. I work part time for a retail chain, and let me tell you, if they don't change the way they do thing, they are going under.
What can they do differently? I am about to stop ordering wearables online because if they do not fit it is a real hassle returning the item(s) and getting the right fit. Just ordered some work shirts with my company logo and they fit in the body quite well but are snug across the shoulders. Now I have to get them altered....extra money.

I think they need to play up the fact that less hassle with returns and stuff like that.

HH Gregg just threw in the towel. None of these chains are going to be able to keep up with online sales. Many of them already sell product at a loss. Sears, Kmart, HH Gregg and Best Buy will all be gone in the next 10 years.

I have to buy clothes in person. Everything else can be bought online but you will always need some stores to just buy stuff you need on the go. I needed a cord for a presentation and ran into bestbuy to get it the other day.
