Bulldogs without12 of 25 recruits

Nine members of Alabama A&M's recruiting class failed to qualify academically and three more opted for junior college, coach Anthony Jones said Wednesday.

Defensive end Renaldo Askew, wide receivers Quannell Butler and Thomas Harris, offensive linemen Charles Hopkins, Brandon Jackson, Fredrick Mack, Eric Ohene-Nyako and Eddie Pasley and linebacker LaFonzo Ruffin didn't make the necessary grades/test scores to play as freshmen.

The Bulldogs lost quarterback Joshua McKinnon, linebacker Harry Sneed and defensive tackle Frantz St. Pierre to junior college.

Thus, A&M lost 12 of the 25 recruits it signed in February.

"We knew there were going to be a lot of props (Proposition 48 non-qualifiers) out of that class," Jones said. "We only lost 13 guys to graduation last year and I knew we couldn't sign a bunch of kids because we would be over. But we signed some kids that weren't going to make it, but we felt once we got them in our program, they would make us better (once eligible)."

Jones said he hoped to get the three players who went to junior college back in two years, but there are no guarantees.

Jones expects seven or eight of the non-qualifiers will show up when school starts later this month.

"There could be more than that," he said. "They made a commitment and I'm going to wait to see if they honor that commitment. I thought they were good enough to help us and that's why I signed them. I thought they could have helped us whether it be this year or two years down the road."

Why would you sign that many non-qualifiers? Is that like giving scholarships away and getting nothing in return?

If they are non-qualifiers, they don't count against your scholarships, do they?

No, they don't receive scholarships. So they don't count against the total. Hence, the following statement by Jones:

"We knew there were going to be a lot of props (Proposition 48 non-qualifiers) out of that class," Jones said. "We only lost 13 guys to graduation last year and I knew we couldn't sign a bunch of kids because we would be over. Beans, this is not just isolated to A&M. A lot of coaches do it, it's almost common practice at the smaller schools. Every year coaches load up on signing day, knowing that a lot of the recruits they signed might not/won't be eligible.

NICE

Is there a stipulation that players must be eligible to receive a scholarship? Are the guys that are not eligible immediately paying their own way if they enroll?

So in short, the players are promised scholarships before the signing day and you sign alot of players, but the scholarships arent given out until you become eligible? Is that the way it works?

You are confusing signing a letter of intent with getting a scholarship. Not everyone who is signed gets a scholarship.

So help me understand, the scholarships are given out during registration time, right? Isnt that when the players are declared eligible or ineligible outside of those that participate in summer school?

Hey Straw,

GR guesses that yall signed a bunch of players that cant write their own name. TGO sees where you get this mess from now. Wow....this is sad. Jones must want to feel like the smartest person on the field.

We are doing like the former big three. Now we have to work on the apartment concept.

About two years ago we started bringing in Prop 48s. Prior to that we only took qualifiers. When you get good student athletes, they all want to major in engineering and take those 5:00pm classes. :shh:

BTW: If we follow GSU model, we will be OK in this area. They have this system down pat. :swink:

Man, will somebody besides Mighty Dog come up in here and explain this mess hea! :shame:

Mike, and Strawdog where are you? :look:

From 25 to 12!  :shame:

Beans, some recruits are offered full scholarships, some are offered partials, and some aren't offered anything but a possibility of getting one later one. Just because a kid signs a letter of intent, and was offered a full scholarship doesn't mean he's going to automatically get it, it just means there's one ear marked for him/her. The ones that are offered scholarships are awarded the scholarship upon meeting the necessary academic requirements to get into school, gets approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse, and once they actually enroll in the school.

If they are props they maybe able to recieve financial aid to assist them with their tuition for the first academic year.

NICE

This is not a new baby. Chief 'running clock ding dong' lost 15 of the 18 he signed last year. :retard: :retard: :goof: :goof: :wavey:

Besides Coach Jones and every other Coach of any kind in the known free world, is obviously smarter and a "L" of a lot more intelligent than jsue's own gift to Mad Magazine.........James 'chief running clock dig dong 5 -18" Bell. :retard: :goof:

Like MD said, a lot of schools recruit this way. This is why I never put much stock in these signing day lists and threads we start. Because most of the time what we see in Feb and what shows up in the fall is 2 different things. Sometimes I think coaches sign players that they know have no chance of showing up just to give the fans somethign to brag about on signing day.

Btw, I could've swore someone said something about all most of A&M's signees being eligible when this list was announced in Feb.

Man, you know Mike aint gon show his face! :look: Still don't understand how they call this mess recruiting. :shame: To me, this is plain ole stupid bamaism. :smh:

yeah its kinda like how we dont understand how yall call that coaching. Why are expectations so high for someone of Coach Bell's stature? What has he shown some of yall that would make you think he can win more than 2-3 football games. Its rather confusing to some of us.

They all up in our shat, and their own is smelling worse than raw sewer. Got players flunking out left and right and signees who can't get past shapes, numbers and colors.

Need to worry about themselves and stay outta ours.
