Broussard to recommend hiring of Dawson Odums

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Sources close to the Southern University football program tell WAFB 9Sports that Athletic Director William Broussard will recommend hiring interim coach Dawson Odums at Friday's Board of Supervisor's meeting in Baton Rouge.

Odums was 4-5 this season, after taking over for Stump Mitchell.

Dude...this ain't over. The board is going to reject this recommendation and tell Broussard to go back to the drawing board. Thats what I would do. I'd tell him to take his time and get it right.
 
Before we know it they're going to turn on Broussard and claim he was sent to SU by Jindal... etc
He's a puppet... and LSU this... and all that jazz.

Po' Broussard doesn't know what he's about to get himself into.
 
I got 5 bucks that says this hire is rejected.

Hey SU fans...y'all still trust in a 20 year old AthleticDirector who has no clue what he is doing? If this hire goes thru he couldn't have handled this search more poorly. Why????

Folk you may be trolling alot of times on this board..but this is one post that I have to agree with and hope you're right about...

I will support whoever SU hires..but this is not a good hire fo us....smh...

I was impressed with how Odums turned things around and got his team to play with emotion and fire. On that basis, I cant talk bad about this hire. But I expected a bigger splash from SU. They need a hire the fan base can get behind early.
 
All these threads and they kept the easiest choice...:shame: If the board rejects it then it will be months before a resolve.

Still waiting on the official word from Jag nation on how this round the world tour of coaching candidates came back to the one that was already there. They should have just saved money and just named him the head coach after the B.C.
 
Typical HBCU President move. Folks don't fool yourselves, our Presidents and BOT hand pick who they want, how they want, and when they want too. HBCU Presidents and BOT are educated mobsters who call shots to ruin your career if you don't play their games.

Actually it didn't cost them much. Only Spady was flown down. Remember Jenkins didn't come down. Odums is already on campus. So it was a inexpensive search.

Good post Cliff. Odums ain't bad. But he ain't the people's choice. He may work out fine. He ain't going to break the bank and we will see who he hires as his assistants. Which will be key. Folks forgot he didn't initially come here with Stump. So he don't have any ties to Stump's assistants. But you are correct, if he don't get off to a good start. There will be uproar within the Jag Nation. Don't know if they(AD/Board) think SU will see how he works out and since he is going to come much cheaper than Jenkins or someone like Maynor would have. I imagine our BOS rationale will be we can get rid of him easily if he don't produce. So Odums will have his work cut out for him to energize the fan base. The only way will be winning games because there will be doubts and naysayers from the outset. JR will take a wait and see approach. I would have preferred we went with Spady or even give ole Eric Dooley a shot. Never was the big Jenkins guy but I could understand the hire if we had got him. The guy I was most interested in was Maynor who I think will end up on your sideline in Tally Ho.

By the way I think Odums will turn SU around. The players respect him, and play hard for him. That means a lot.
 
I told you JR that Odums would come at a discount price. That was the main reason you all hired him. Money makes even the hardest people do things that may not make sense on the surface.
 
Broussard played this one safe... I think Odums can win with his style. Just a few minor tweaks on defense an the Jags will be ok.. I think Chadwick Germany proved me wrong and is a preety damn good offensive coordinator. He got a lot out of Dray Joseph. If the running game shows any sign of life, then the Southern offense could be top 3 in the SWAC next year... Another way is if it doesnt work out you will have money in the bank to make a big hire in the future.. I dont think Odum broke the bank..
