"A combination of elements made this matter particularly unusual and egregious," Goodell said in a damning report released by the league Wednesday. "When there is targeting of players for injury and cash rewards over a three-year period, the involvement of the coaching staff, and three years of denials and willful disrespect of the rules, a strong and lasting message must be sent that such conduct is totally unacceptable and has no place in the game."
Tell 'em Goodell!

Can Shockey sue Warren Sapp if he really isn't the snitch!?

Former Saint Jeremy Shockey denies snitching on team, blasts Warren Sapp

On Wednesday, the league levied heavy penalties on the Saints, including a one-year suspension of Payton and the loss of two second-round draft picks, and on former New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was suspended indefinitely.

From there, Sapp went on NFL Network to defend his source, going so far as to say: “My source that was close to the situation informed me that Jeremy Shockey is the one that was the snitch initially. I trust my source unequivocally.â€￾

Shockey responded by going on Twitter to offer to take a polygraph and expanded that to say he would take one on live television. He also took several thinly veiled shots at Sapp. The two both played at the University of Miami, although at different times. Shockey said that any loyalty from their common background, “Ended right thereâ€￾ on Wednesday.

or wear a bulletproof vest like Skandor Akbar

SKANDOR AKBAR: THE COST OF VILLAINY
By Dave Tarrant

From the Dallas Morning News, September 3, 2000

And there was that time he had to wear a bulletproof vest. It was in 1985 in the Superdome in New Orleans. The week before in Jackson, Miss., Skandor was managing Kimala and had interfered with the match by throwing a fireball at Kimala's opponent, a guy named Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

This well-publicized act prompted 30,000 fans to turn out for a rematch in the Superdome. When Skandor arrived in the locker room, he was met by New Orleans Police Department officers informing him that there had been 14 calls to the Superdome threatening his life.

"Either you wear this bulletproof vest tonight or you don't go on," he quotes an officer telling him.

He wore the vest underneath his robe and nothing happened.

The suspension appeals of three key members of the New Orleans Saints for their involvement in a bounty scandal were denied.

The NFL announced Monday that the punishment levied by commissioner Roger Goodell would stand for head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and assistant head coach/linebackers Joe Vitt.

Payton’s suspension will begin on April 16 and he will be forced to miss the entire 2012 season. The suspensions of Loomis (eight games) and Vitt (six) will begin at the end of the preseason.

The Saints also were fined $500,000 and stripped of 2012 and 2013 second-round draft picks.

"The club and the individuals will be expected to cooperate in any further proceedings and to assist in the development and implementation of programs to instruct players and coaches at all levels on principles of player safety, fair play, and sportsmanship," the league said in a statement.

However, if the Saints "embrace the opportunity and participate in a constructive way,"
