Blacks 30 Times More Likely to Get Arrested for Pot as Whites in Some Counties

Kendrick, I don't smoke weed. Never have. My chance of getting arrested for marijuana possession is close to 0%.

How would a person with a victim mentality like yours explain that as it relates to this topic? Would a person who is constantly looking for excuses to explain away the dysfunction of Black people find anything useful in that statistic? Close to 0%.

Or do you only focus on the statistics that help to assuage your victim status?

Who said anything about looking for excuses? This is reality.

This report points out what should be common knowledge: that racial bias exists as it relates to law enforcement and the legal system. The same can be said with the stop-and-frisk initiative in New York, where police have admitted to hounding a disproportionate number of minorities for game.

Or the revelation that blacks who commit the same offenses as whites serve harsher and longer sentences.

Or this saggin' pants law cities, counties and states have tried to enact.

These developments have a devastating impact on individuals, families and entire communities.

It places these groups at a significant social and economic disadvantage. Once a black person gets caught in the system, it is tremendously difficult for that individual to fully recover as opposed to the majority population. These tactics can be partly blamed for the dysfunction that has manifested.

"The New Jim Crow, Mass Incarcerations in the Age of Colorblindness," by Michelle Alexander explains much of this.

So, in your rush to find somebody or something to blame you ignore the question because it doesn't help paint your picture of "reality".

Just what I expected.

That's one of the major differences in people. Those who seek to place blame vs. those who seek to find solutions.

Those who wallow in the "reality" of their misery vs. those who make their reality different by making different choices and taking different actions.

I wonder which group is more effective at enacting social change. The blamers? Or those who are focused on taking positive actions toward positive goals no matter where they come from or what circumstances they find themselves in?

The Victims? Or The Achievers?

Hmmm .....

You rushed to cited this report as an example of some sort of display of victim mentality instead of seeing it as another example of how our law enforcement and governments enact and enforce laws in a racially-based manner.

If whites and blacks use/possess weed at the same rate, why are blacks getting locked up more often even among small and large minority populations as this report suggests?

But you won't attempt to discuss that, though. It is much easier for you to ramble on about victimization and play the self-determination and personal responsibility cards that are frequented by conservative ideologists when presented with evidence of racial suppression and discrimination by majority-led entities.

Is there a time and place to discuss what you want to discuss? Sure. This is not the occasion, however.

You act like bias in law enforcement is something new that we haven't experienced before. You act like none of us have experienced racism and discrimination before. :retard:

Here's the thing, Kendrick: What are you proposing that betters the lives of Black people?

The truth, whether you admit it or not, is absolutely nothing. All you want to do is whine about the "reasons" Black people are in such bad shape. Without being that Sojourner Truth that shows us a way out.

And, frankly, it's tired. Old. Lame. Honestly, I don't really want to argue with you because I've seen it all from you before. Excuses without solutions. Blaming. Pointing out how terrible those other people are that cause Black folks to be losers. Yet, being unwilling and unable to ... yes ... accept personal responsibility to determine their own direction in life. Despite the difficulties that we all face.

It's a sad and pathetic way to live, Kendrick. Especially sad to see a young man with this mindset.

And I know that has never gotten anything worthwhile accomplished.

You have a good night. :)

But, I didn't blame anyone for anything.

All I did was post the stat and link. You are the one who went on a tangent about blame and victimhood, which I subsequently responded to.

You talk about solutions. You're the problem solver. How are we supposed to move closer to justice if we aren't bringing these discrepancies to the forefront? The more organizations like the ACLU and others present this information to the public, it increases the opportunities for such discriminatory practices to be examined and ultimately changed.
