Besides Scholarship's, What makes Kids from same area HBCU go to next HBCU away from home.

We have them on our Rosters, I know family traditional is about neck to neck with getting a scholarship. if you don't understand what I am saying, example " JSU has a few players on team from Baton Rouge, LA, Nashville TN, Huntsville AL. etc... Other SWAC/MEAC teams have players from Jackson MS, Greenwood MS etc...

#1. What makes players from same area HBCU choose other HBCU far away from home?

#2. Do you think that player thats going on family tradition plays harder than just that scholarship player?

I think $ first and second, family & friends tradition help makes that decision. I am thinking that player that knows from middle school that he is going to that one school and if he does I feel he plays better than a person on scholarship because mindsets are different but if that scholarship players is looking to the next level its makes them both GOOD and just about equal depending on skills.

To get away from that area and have new experiences.

I have a few classmates/people I went to school went/worked with that went to Jackson State to get away from the Delta. If you grew up in places like Sidon, Belzoni, Indianola, Tchula, Winona, Ruleville, Hollandale, etc. then going to Valley or even Alcorn would be a lateral move for them. Jackson is a small city but it is a city.

That's why if I didn't end up at Valley Rust or JSU were going to be my schools.

Ditto. After growing up in Poplarville, I was done with small towns.

Getting away from parents & relatives.

Young people want fresh surroundings at that age. They're not really "away from home" living in the same city.

For me growing up in jackson and hearing so much about Southern and seeing how passionate there fans were growing up seeing that made me want to go Southern. Bayou Classics, Swac championships, and seeing the Famu vs SU rivalry on bet helped my decision in choosing Southern. Plus relatives in the south Louisiana area. Also Southern, Alcorn, and a few jucos gave me an opportunity to play ball.

At Grambling High we play in Robinson Stadium and Hobdy Assembly Center. It's nothing new for them. Truth be told GSU has had a long problem with recruiting GHS basketball players.

I grew up in Pontotoc not far from Rust College. JSU, Alcorn, Valley, Rust, and MSU were on my list as far as Mississippi schools. I just wanted to go out of state to an HBCU. Grambling and Howard were my top choices. I noticed that a lot of athletes from my hometown or surrounding area chose Valley in most cases. I think Valley did a hell of a job in recruiting to get those guys from other HBCU's and PWI's.

Those small towns were JSU goldmines back before the internet recruiting boom in the early 2000s we were getting 3 and 4 star guys who know would be at a FBS or Power 5 program..

You are spot on with that. We were stealing a lot of players that the big time schools wouldn't know about.

So you know about Hernando and Cold-water huh? Lol

Biggest reason in my opinion is just having a 17 year old kid that want to get away from home or the town they grew up in. They just tired of the same old scenery.
