BAYOU CLASSIC ATTENDANCE

I think the numbers will be up this year....

Co-Sign,
Both teams continue on this path and I say the attendance will be up.

Last year was the first back in New Orleans, not to mention both teams were coming in with losing records. I think folks seem to forget that the BC does rely on locals for some of the attendance. Alot of them folks are not back yet.

We will return to our rightful place as being the best HBCU Classic there is.

I was just about to ask why this topic was put on the smack board and not the sports board. But JR just answered it with that statement.

So Duece, why is it smack? Is it not true that for years the BC was the pre-eminent HBCU classic in the US? Am I lying? Now I know you guys want to think because the MCC has had better attendence lately that it is a bigger and better classic than the BC. Maybe so recently.

But historically you can't deny who had the most national recognition and how the black celebs like Cosby and the late Johnnie Cochran and others flocked to the BC. New Orleans would get 200K of folks just to come to the city pre-Katrina. As Mike Bigg says..............don't get all biggity because the MCC attendance got better than the BC. Because you know damn well the BC is more well known than any other HBCU classic. That is no knock on the MCC and the Florida Classic that has drawn larger crowds some of the years than the BC recently. Nobody said one word on the sports board on how some of yall were blatantly were underhandly smacking the BC with that Biggest classic in the SWAC deal. You have the attendence right now.....but make no mistake about it. The MCC will never be on the BC's level.

Carry on.

Nice try Cee Dog........no one smacked the MCC. But Duece wants to roll his eyes at the fact I said the BC will return to it's rightful place as the best HBCU Classic........that not only includes the MCC.........it includes the Florida Classic as well.

Again folks can play dumb with loyalty. But everybody knows about the BC. Thank Eddie Rob, Collie Nicholson and others for that. You just can't take all that away from the BC and annoit yourself the biggest classic in the SWAC just because you got some great attendence numbers vs the BC lately. Especially with all that has happened in that region.:smh:

JR, I am not even going to debate this issue with them bruh!!!!! If they wanna be thought of as the "BEST CLASSIC then so be it". I will say this i've never heard folks talk about this MCC but as for the BC I have folks all the time asking me if I can get them tickets for the game..... I am not talking down on the MCC but why are they always wanting to compare that to the BC.... It's like oil & water you cannot compare the two....

No smack from me because I like the BC and have attended both, but Why do you guys keep saying lately? I have been going to the MCC classic since 89 and it has always been over 60K. So how is that latley? Both are good classics where neither one really out shines the other. The thing that trips me out is that if you guys aren't part of it you think it's not good. If you can think that way so can we. It's all fair game. Two great classics representing Bama and LA

:tup:No Smack, just Fact.....whenever someone is trying to come up in any area of life, they will always gage their progress by comparing it to the best in that catagory.........as it is for their programs, it is the same for their classic......How many times have we heard them say how big of an accomplishment it is and how much it means to them to beat both Southern and Grambling in the same year. I see nothing wrong with them comparing and trying to get better. This can only raise the level of the entire conference. Hell I wish everybodides classic drew 70 to 80 thousand every year in both the SWAC and the MEAC. This could only bring a more positive look to our Black College Football.........Heck I am proud to be a part of the Bayou Classic....gives me a great since of pride to know that we African Americans have created something of this magnitude. On the other hand I am also proud of the MCC, the CCC, the Labor Day, the Turkey Day, the Florida, etc. Basically, anything that our people put together and shows signs of POSITIVE success and growth is a lovely sight in my eyes.......:tup::tup:

CD, I never said it the MCC wasn't good. I think it is great for college football. I remember us heading to Nashville to play Tn State my Freshman year in the Juke and we came through B-ham and caught the parade(MD always mentions) that was going on that morning. I know its a big deal in Bama. What I am saying is that the BC because of Rob and the fact that this Classic got national pub, it became the Classic of all Classics is all. It has nothing to do with just attendance. It became a must see event. Hell the BOTB/Greek Show draws 40 thousand and would draw more if the bands actually could take the field and battle. One side of the dome is closed off for the current way they do it. All we are saying is being the biggest isn't just about attendance. The BC is on a national stage and before Katrina........folks from all over the country including big name celebs would make sure they attended some BC functions. I think it is a different vibe for both classics. The MCC is probably the ultimate black college family reunion along with the Florida Classic between BCC and FAMU. The BC has that but I think we draw more folks who have nothing to do with either school or the state of La for that matter to the event. I know MD will be in attendance.:hat:

JR,

My problem with your statement is that just because you have a tv contract, and possibly more people are familiar with your game, that DOES NOT MAKE IT "the best HBCU classic there is" as you stated.

Do you wanna know what I really think is "the best HBCU classic there is"? The Turkey Day Classic. That's right, in my opinion, the Turkey Day Classic is the best HBCU classic there is.

Bar none.

Is it the biggest? Not by a long shot, it probably has topped out around 30,000.

Is it the most well known? No, the BC and the MCC are probably better known classics.

Does it have a network tv deal? No again, though it has occassionally been televised.

But here's a classic that among other things, has been around since 1924. That's 50 years longer than the BC.

50 Years.

Here's a black college football classic that survived the great depression, world war II, the civil rights movement and continues to this day as one of the finest games in all of black college football.

I think a lot of folks, not just SU and GSU folks, but people around the country bought into the notion that since its on NBC, it must be the best. That my friend, is simply not true.

Oh by the way, the Magic City Classic is now, and always has been a better classic than the Bayou Classic. You may not have known it, but that's not my problem.

I agree with 100%. I know you know the difference you travel. It's your country cousins from the Sippi who don't get out and the country ones from Monroe who don't no any better.

One more thing, don't think that I'm saying the TDC is the best just because its the oldest. Just like the BC isn't the best just because its possibly the best known.

There's more than one way to judge a classic.

All Black College Football Classics:tup:

All Black College Football:tup:

All HBCU's :clap::clap::clap:

That's my take........

Oh and since this is the Smack Board, let me Smack something

PWC's:tdown::tdown::tdown::(:(:(:devil2::nod::nod::nod::bump::nod:

Deuce, I respect your opinion........but again I will still say the BC pre -Katrina is the best just because of the fun and things offered in New Orleans. The concerts, the galas, the battle of the bands/greek show......it just offered more for everybody in my mind. The only thing I don't like about the BC is the fact that the Dome does not allow the great SU tailgating to go on. I respect the TDC and all its immense history. No one said that it was not a good Classic or folks didn't have fun. I just am going to find it hard to believe that you can have more fun in Montgomery than New Orleans. What makes the BC special outside SU or GSU or even the TV thing is the fact that New Orleans the city just made this classic so much enjoyable to folks. Again this is no knock to the MCC and TDC. But those games are special to folks who are tied to it. I think the BC have more folks who enjoy all the activities that have no ties to either school or the state is all. It has been adopted by black folks around the country as the must see or attend event. That is all I am saying. I am sure JSU and Alcorn folks say their classic is the best. I am sure FAMU and BCC folks say their classic is the best. But when you talk to folks who have no affliation to none of our schools...........you ask them which Classic they want to attend or have attended. Like somebody said. All our Classics are good for HBCU football. So keep attending them and supporting them. Hell if I could have, I would have made it down to B-ham.........I like hanging with the Dawgpound and my PSI bruhs from AAMU. LOL.

JR,

I respect your opinion also, and you make some excellent points. First of all, of course you can have more fun in New Orleans than in Montgomery  but to me that goes more to the point of New Orleans being a better city to hang out in than Montgomery, not the BC necessarily being a better classic than the TDC or the MCC. To me you have to kinda separate the two. For instance, you could move the MCC to Montgomery, Mobile, or Huntsville and it probably wouldn't skip a beat (that is, if you had a large enough stadium to play it in). Sounds to me you are not saying that about the BC. The BC seems to be more about New Orleans, than the MCC is about B'ham, or the TDC is about Montgomery. But B'ham and Montgomery do add tremendously to the atmosphere an flavor of the MCC and TDC respectively.

Also, the fact that the MCC draws 66,000 people who actually care who wins the game versus the fact that half the people at the BC appear to be just there to be seen, while the other half actually came for the game. To me, this is a plus for the MCC.

But bottom line is, the BC, MCC and TDC are all great black college events. Let's continue to support them all.

And that's where you're wrong. The Bayou Classic is a better football game and a bigger rivalry than the MCC and the TDC. In HBCU football 2 HBCU teams don't wanna beat each other worse than SU and GSU wanna beat each other. The only reason The Bayou Classic isn't drawing 60,000+ to the game as of recent is Katrina. The overrall atmosphere of the Bayou Classic is amazing.
