Barry Bonds . . countdown to history

I know a lot of folks don't like Barry Bonds, (including some on this board) but I'm not one of them. As a matter of fact, I count Bonds as one of my favorite current athletes.

And like him or not, it appears to be evident that he will break Mobile, Alabama native Hank Aaron's home run record. Ordinarily I root for Alabama folks like Hank, but this time I'm rooting for Barry. Personally, I think he's getting a raw deal in the media, while they turn their heads to allegations against the likes of Lance Armstrong.

Be that as it may, I feel it is fitting that we have a "countdown" thread for Bonds possibly breaking one of the most important records in all of sport.

Bonds is sitting on 738. Hank has 755 . . . . 17 more to tie, and 18 more for the record.

Go get 'em Barry. :tup:

Let the boo-birds do whatever they want.

The man has never tested positive for anything and told the grand jury he didn't know what the oil he was using on his wrist's was made of.
All he knew was flexseed oil.............He never knowingly used any for of roids.

But as usual.................... Nobody gonna hear that.:emlaugh:

I don't have anything against Barry. But I do think the only reason he is getting a raw deal in the media is because of his personal history with the media. Lance Armstrong is always pretty personable plus he survived Cancer. Not to mention Cycling is not Baseball. Most people could care less about Lance and the Tour de France. Baseball still holds a spot near and dear to the media and the fans.

I agree 100%. And that's part of the problem I have with the media. They pretend that they are against Barry because of the possible steroid use, but in reality they simply don't like him because he has refused to dance to their music.

Truthfully, most people could care less about baseball. :lol: But this isn't about "most people", its about the media. The media is the one driving this issue, not the fans.
 
Steriod allegations or not and nothing personal toward Barry or anyone else who challenges the record, but I don't want anyone to break Hank's record. I want the record to stay in Mobile. I'm sure it's going to broken though. If not by Barry, A. Rod.

WHO?????????!!!!!!!!

I hope he breaks it this year...
But SOME pitchers are cowards and rather walk Bonds intentionally!!!!!!!
Then pitch to him...........
 
I think Barry Bonds is one of the greatest hitters/baseball players of all-time. "IF" he did use steriods, it didn't do anything to help his hand-eye coordination, the man could always mash! I admit that he did have a boost in power numbers (and head size) but that doesn't matter to me. In fact, if he popped Steroids and chased it with RedBull prior to each at bat then it wouldn't tarnish what he's doing in my book.

All these critics (especially male) like to diss this man about performance-enhancing drugs when most of them are dropping viagra and chasing it with Gin or Vodka to help them "swing their wood".

that's what I been saying from the beginning.
 
I'm wondering if they still think he is using roids now, being that he is smashing the ball as if he has a boat paddle and is hitting a beach ball.

I really don't think they care.

The steroid thing is just a convenient reason for them to express their hate for Barry. When you don't like someone, any old excuse will do. On the filp-side, if an athlete is loved by the media, they'll turn a blind eye to almost anything he or she does.

The media has NEVER like Barry Bonds and this started when GREENIES was OPENLY used in the locker room.
Before AMDRO and any designer drugs.
They was calling him not likable, bitter, not a team player then.

The Media has not like Barry Bonds because he never kissed their arse or bought into that "I gave up my personal life/time when I signed a Million dollar contract" bullshat.:eek:

Ya'll right about the roid issue being an excuse to not like him in 2007.

They bashed both those guys. Why do you McGwire is not in the Hall of Fame? You hit 600 homers and you are not in the HOF. I think voters did their talking without saying a word. The only reason on one is talking about those guys now is because they are not chasing Aaron.

Yeah, but McGwire was chasing Maris for the single-season homerun record in '98 when everyone knew about his use of andro, and no one made a big deal of it. Yes, I know andro was not banned, but it was still a "performance enhancing drug". Oh by the way, many baseball purists considered Maris' record of 61 homeruns in a season even more sacred than Aaron's 755 career homeruns.

And although its a different sport, I still say that Lance Armstrong in getting a pass by the media, most of whom are absolutely running from stories of alleged steriod use.

Those same baseball purists wanted Maris' record separate from Ruth's becuase Maris did not break the record in less than 154 games. Good thing baseball wised up changed the record books. I don't think the 61 or 73 in a season is more sacred than 755. 61 or 73 is great a accomplishment, but 755 is greater because of the longevity involved. Plus, we don't really know how many homers Josh Gibson hit while playing in the Negro Leagues. Bonds might to chasing Gibson and Aaron and we don't even know it.
