I'll answer GR, Since they wont............
L.C. Cole is a good Xs and Os man, but he can't build and sustain a program. When you look at the work he did at TSU, his team was built with D-1 and Juco transfers. That may give you instant success, but it won't last. When he left TSU, they were depleted with the NCAA hanging around. Bama State didn't look at any of that when he was hired. Didn't even look at his cheating. All they saw was his record. Now fast forward almost 4 years later, and look at the mess they're in. Coming off a last place finish, in the middle of an endless investigation, praying that D-1A washouts who might not even play can save their season, Coaches suing former coaches, and Coaches being impersonated(still don't understand that one).
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but good coaches, even those who struggle early, are supposed to hit their stride by their 3rd or 4th season. They aren't supposed to be in last place 3 years later. MH himself said that last year's team was depleted. What happened to Cole's recruits? Shouldn't those guys be Junior and Seniors by now? Or did he take the easy road and recruit D-1 washouts and renegade JUCOs.
Be honest Bamas: 4 years ago when Cole was hired, you guys had Watkins claiming that you'd be the first black D-1A program, complete with new facilities and a new stadium. Even in your worse case scenario, did you honestly believe that your program would be in even worse shape than it was then? Donald Watkins has now been run out of 2 schools, you're still in the Cramton Bowl, and L.C. days are numbered.
Let this be a lesson to all other programs: When you take a lying, cheating coach who can't sustain a program and combine him with a school that has no program, you get disatrous results.
