Bama State to host AHSAA B-Ball Tournament...

I never understood Alabama State's reasoning for not hosting this before in the past. for them. Man we need to hurry up and get an arena. :smh:

it had definitely helped Jacksonville State with recruiting in state... not sure about Troy State or South Alabama. Problem is from Im hearing it will only be in Montgomery for 1 year.

It will likely be in Montgomery for several years to come. The "one year" thing came about because there was one year left on the contract to hold it in Troy before it was moved back to the Acadome in Montgomery.

Look for this tournament to be at Alabama State permanently.

this regional isnt replacing the Troy regional though... it is replacing the Mobile regional.

It's a bunch of BS because all off the mobile schools have to travel 174 miles to Troy or 175 to Montgomery in the regions. To top this off if any teams make it to the final four they have to travel 256 miles to b-ham the next week.Who is this helping? Not anyone from south alabama. It's all about north ala.

The problem with the South regional is that all the games were empty unless Vigor and Leflore was playing... Mobile had the worst turnout out of the 4 regionals. The regional will never move from Wallace State Hanceville because that site always has capacity crowds and Wallace state has a very nice gym. Now I do agree Troy and Montgomery are too close together for them both to host a regional but I guess the AHSAA has to make money somehow.

But at the expense of the mobile schools.one/fourth of the 6a schools are in the mobile/baldwin area.i could see if they moved to somewhere within a hundred miles of mobile but come on.This is just a plot to make sure that the b-ham school have a great chance to win state.the 6a & 5a games make money because that is what most of the classifications are in the area.this aim directly at leflore which will be ranked in the top 25 in the country & davidson which has been to the state finals the last 2 years.Leflore/Vigor region final 2 years ago had 10000 people at the game so it's not about the money.

All I know is that Alabama State is once again hosting a regional, and I'm happy about it.

its definitely about money... once again the Mobile regional was the WORST attended out of the four.

another change I think that needs to be made is the single elimination.. I think the regional tournament should be a double elimination.. I believe thats how Mississippi runs their championships.

the mobile region was not the worse site when it came to 4a,5a, & 6a teams.it was just you have the 1a thru 3a that are playing there are not close to mobile for fan support.it is up to the state to align teams and regions right.question how far is troy from montgomery?it doesn't make sense to have regions that close.if attendance was a problem go back to faulkner st. where it was held before south.it was always filled to capacity.

I would LOVE to see the day Alabama A&M gets a new state of the art basketball arena and Alabama State gets it's own football stadium.

It is going to take private dollars from alums.

The Alabama State football stadium is in the plans. The Board of Trustees are supposed to vote on it in one of their upcoming meetings. The offer that has been presented to them is one that they can't refuse.
