ASU's Theatre Department Receives National Accreditation

ASU's Department of Theatre Arts has received a five-year accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

Alabama State University’s department of Theatre Arts has been awarded full accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). Of the 86 applicants of major colleges and universities this year, ASU is one of eight that received NAST accreditation.
“This is really big for the department as well as the university,†said Dr. Tommie H. Stewart, dean of ASU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. “This means that our curriculum and our records meet the standards of major institutions in this country.â€
The commission recently voted to approve ASU’s Theatre Arts Department for a five-year accreditation, making ASU one of five HBCUs in the country with an accredited theatre program.
Stewart said ASU’s theatre students will benefit greatly from this new accreditation.
