Andrew Luck staying in school

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has decided to stay in college to get his degree instead of immediately cashing in on the riches of being the likely No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.

Luck announced his decision Thursday, more than a week before the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft. Luck, who sat out his first year as a redshirt, has two years of eligibility remaining but is on track to graduate next spring.

"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012," Luck said in a statement issued through the school. Stanford said Luck was not available for further comment.

I am not mad at him. A Stanford Degree is not a bad thing to have. The only thing is that the NFL scouts will hold this against him and say that he is not 100% committed to football (trust I didn't make this up, these were actual words I heard). I was hanging with former Stanford and Atlanta Falcons Linebacker Chris Draft a few months ago and he talked about how scouts were questioning him over his high GPA.

Well that's different, Chris Draft is smart and black.

He didnt want to be drafted by the Panthers! :emlaugh:

Andrew is an extremely smart kid and he's making a great decision by getting his degree before he goes pro!

Their will be some questions for Luck to bruh. Just watch. I think he is talented enough that it won't hurt him as bad as a Myron Rolle per say but it did catch some attention. From hanging around a few scouts, they have the thought process that football is your occupation and you go to college to get career ready. There is no reason to stay and get that degree if you are ready to enter the workforce.

I don't think money is really a big deal for him. He comes from a rich family. His dad is a former NFL QB and the AD at West Virginia.

I was thinking that.. most of them kids at Stanford ain't never trippin on money...lol

Shyt most of all them kids come from wealth... That's mostly Silicon Valley kids... I was shocked when I went to their on campus mall....

Put it this way... MOST of America couldn't afford 2% of the shyt in there....

Bingo. Luck is not a poor kid either. His Dad is the current WVA AD and former NFL backup Qb for the Oilers. Not to mention he ran the Dynamos Soccer team in Houston. The Lucks have money. He is doing just like Peyton did. Stay in school. When you aint desparate to get the NFL like most kids. You can do this. Luck is going to be rich one way or the other. The question is just how rich. LOL.

Yep. He is pulling a Peyton Manning. Peyton didn't need to leave early from Tn and he had already graduated by the end of Jr year and still went back. LOL. You can do that when your folks have money.

:smh: I hope that decision doesn't come back to bite him in his ass.

Kid has money already. Just following the Manning formula. Luck will be that kid even if he doesn't get drafted next season for some strange reason or injury. Somebody will give him a 6 figure job right off the bat just because of WHO he is. This kid is damn near a Rhodes scholar.

Yeah the Manning family down here is BEYOND rich.. why you think the oldest ain't trip about not making the NFL.... shyt his two younger brothers are his clients....lol

No it won't. They didn't ask Peyton Manning any questions did they. Did they ask Sam Bradford any questions on why he went back and dude even got hurt and he still ended being number 1. There are no Qbs that will be eligible for the draft that will be better than Luck next season. They don't ask the white boys that question and they know his family aint broke. Lienart did the same thing because his old man had some loot too.

Yep. Ole Cooper Manning found out he had that narrowing of the spine while at Ole Miss. No big deal........I'll just become an Attorney and represent my little brothers. LOL. Not to mention Archie and Olivia have plenty of money. I know Archie came from meager means in Drew Ms. But Olivia folks were not poor folks. Her folks owned a store in her hometown. Then of course Archie went on to make good money for his time and did Saints TV stuff. Them Mannings are super loaded now that Eli and Peyton got those mega contracts. Their great grandchildren will be rich. LOL.

JR,
I don't think it will play a big role but it will come up.

S/N: I got a little cousin at Ohio State right now getting a Master's in Applied Economics. I may have to make a trip that way.

Not to mention Archie is also employed here at my job as a "senior marketer"...lol

He ain't never in his office though... I done tried to call his office a few times..he need to learn how to pick up the phone or have his secretary pick from time to time....lol

Matt Ryan stayed in school for his fifth year at Boston College. I would have bounced though. But that's just me.

Forgot about that. But I think that helped Ryan though. He was not on the radar early in his career like Luck is or how Peyton was. Matty Ice did the right thing. Because it has actually paid off for all those Qbs who stayed. Seems like they have had the most success vs the ones who left early. Go figure.

Plus the collective bargaining possible lock-out. Factor in he's the front runner for the Heisman... imagine what that's gonna do for him when he retires as a former #1 pick (next draft), Heisman winner, and Stanford Grad when he's done with football. Smart move on his part in my opinion!

Dang. That Applied Economics aint no joke from my understanding. You would enjoy Columbus. One of the few Ohio cities that has grown instead of the other way around. Probably the best place to live in the state now.

As for Luck. They aint fugging with that white boy. Just watch. He goes back to school and lights it up again then they will be salivating all over themselves to draft him.
They will not treat him like they did Rolle from Florida State. Especially since Luck aint leaving school to go to Oxford like Rolle did. They will say Luck went back to graduate and to be part of something special at Stanford. He will get accolades for it. Just like ole Peyton did. LOL.

While I do really care, I do think that this is a bad business decision for one reason. When its all said and done, the new NFL CBA will include a limit on rookie salaries and guarantees. With Bradford getting $50 million guaranteed last year, Luck stood to eclipse that this year had he gone. However, if he does indeed stay in school, will lose an approximate $30 to $40 million in earnings. I don't care how wealthy HIS PARENTS are, thats a lot of cash to try and recover. With the salary that he stands to make, he could easily return to school and pay his, yours, and my tuition at Standford. BUT, now he will settle for playing for free with an insurance policy that carries a premium of over $100k

That CBA may be signed before the draft according to the commish. So doesn't it go in effect immediately? So hasn't Luck already missed out?

naaa.....word is that it probably would officially kick in until the 2012 draft. They are expecting this process to be a bit drawn out and thus not leaving enough time to effectively implement it before the 2011 draft.

Gotcha. Well I imagine ole Luck doesn't want to go to Carolina who I believe he would have trouble signing with. They aint exactly the kind of team that spends money freely. I also do not believe the Players Union is going to let the cap be too bad for them. They will have to do something to compromise especially with the owners and the commish wanting 2 extra games. That will give the players some bargaining power. Otherwise....lockout here we come. Then nobody gets paid.
