On Friday August 8 Alcorn State University will have a press confrrence to name their next Athletic Director. You can listen to the announcement live on wprl.org beginning at 1:55 P.M.

hope not considering his failures at FAMU but we all know who is calling the shots at ASU and the ties they have to the AD

might as well make that person the AD and cut the position out

It's Derek Horne from FAMU...my sister saw him at church on Sunday and he announced that's where he was going

Alcorn State, all I have to say is GOOD LUCK...he was waaaaaaaaaay in over his head as AD at FAMU

Hopefully this guy makes us get hands dirty in scheduling more games against OOC MEAC Schools like FAMU (Alcorn vs. FAMU Home and Away would be awesome)and TN State. No more hiding in plain sight.

Depending on where you guys played. If it was a home and home the attendance would be decent and both schools would be able to profit. Host the games anywhere else and the attendance would be 6-7k max

Hmm what a coincidence…. It's been a while since we've played Florida A&M. So if this game ever manifested again, I'm sure the first game would be a neutral location. A recurrence would call for home and home. I do know that a plug was put in with Atlanta Football Classic recently for a future Alcorn vs Florida A&M or Alcorn vs Hampton match up. The response indicated interest in the Alcorn vs Florida A&M battle and would be up for discussion. So I dunno. Anyway, I guess we'll see how things go with the new AD.

Well he should be right at home in the SWAC since we have NO academic standards.
The SWAC has 6 academically ineligible schools. He should fit right in
I guess Alcorn bout to make it 7

Ehhhhh Derrick is a good guy but this isnt the right hire that needed to be made for Alcorn I wish him luck...

I'll hold my opinion until I hear from Alcorn's #1 alumni (Braveheart123).

Well it's like this C-Leb.....

My fear is his progressive mentality will clash with the "stay the same" group at Alcorn. My alma mater will have to learn to be the best in HBCU Sports, you play and beat the best. We have to take advantage of home games and start getting more rivalries outside SU, JSU, and Valley. My alma mater however is in a VERY difficult position.

I think as time progresses there will be a VERY distinct war amongst HBCUs. This war is simply Urban HBCUs vs. Rural HBCUs. Alcorn is in Lorman, Mississippi. There is no hope for progression in this area. If ONLY Alcorn could somehow establish a 10-20 year plan that slowly moves the main campus to Natchez or Vicksburg. A football stadium in Natchez would attract more people than in Lorman. Yes, history is important but Alcorn has to progress. If they let our new AD create vision, we might stand a chance if his vision is contained and focused, not all over the place like Darren Hamilton.

However, time will tell. What I do know is that Alcorn must consider the possibility of further in-depth expansion into Natchez.

But why is it a concern to "others"........Please point out one Top Notch AD in the SWAC?

It's a concern because 6 hbcus are ineligible in this conference and he just left a school in Apr hot water. We would hate for you to regress so calm down. I thought you all would have picked an alcornite that's all. As for top notch ADs, I would say it has to be an AD that keeps your school out of Apr trouble and has a vision for your school and is not afraid to think big. We have a couple in this conference.
