ASU Board removes Joe L. Reed's name from Acadome

The Alabama State Board of Trustees voted to remove Joe L. Reed's name from the Acadome by passing a resolution that began "Joe L. Reed" has completely and utterly destoryed any and all confidence in his commitment to positively represent the University and its legacy."

Reed cited his contributions to the university in the past that included acquiring funds for many campus buildings and projects.

But trustee Herbert Young, who introduced the resolution said, "You can write your own legacy and you can destroy it. Our forefathers are crying."

"I am too," Reed said.

The motion said the building will be known as the ASU Acadome, and that it shall ?immediately and forever be referred to as the ?ASU Sting Dome.??

In other action, the board approved the appointment of Dr. William Harris as interim president to be effective on July 11. In the meantime, it approved John Knight as acting president.
