I read enough negativity and hate on that other board about the SWAC, think we care? Was NWSt wrong for backing out of the Jackson St game 2 years ago?

Or wrong for not reworking the contract's back in '89 to keep the series going?

Ralph .......... Do your HOMEWORK before you come over here with these half-arse post intending to put the SWAC on the spot. :goof:

Folks like to say that we ran from McN, but what did they do when they went to Gram.

The McNeese crowd was 46% above Grambling's home average of 11,987, and eclipsed only by their homecoming game.

McNeese 17,485
Valley 6,397
TSU (HC) 21,065
Savannah St 3,001

If attendance is what matters (and not arse-whippings), it seems Doug should've cancelled the Sav State series instead of McNeese....

I'm not going to put my dog in this fight, but I think what makes McFans say that is the timing-the week after McNeese drug Grambling, and a within days of Mr. Kerr saying the deal was all but done.....

PNeck, we all knows that Gram home games are not that big unless it's HC, JSU or Alcorn. That's why they play most of their game on the road and Classic. An instate PWC school, top 5 in the polls and like to boast about their fan support and didn't produce. Hell, there wasn't a game Southern played last year that the other team had more fans than we did. McNeese should have sold out Gram stadium. There biggest gate in the last two year was the Gram game, including the 3 or 4 playoff games they hosted. If we were to sell 20-22k tickets at Mumford will McFans bring the other 8-10k? I doubt it.

Well, at least we know now that the Magic City Classic will be on October 30th, and not October 23rd.

There was some confusion about that, but A&M's Martin cleared that up when he stated that he was still looking for a game for "either October 16th or October 23rd".

All, I am going to say is that Jax State may use the same tactic to get back on our schedule as they did before.

I attended 2003 TSU Homecoming and the officiating was the worst I have ever seen. This crew did not want TSU to win but someway TSU was able to pull it off.

So we back out on McNeese to play......Allen and Lincoln?

Hell, a McNeese game would have had those crowds combined, freeing up a date to play another Classic.

I never intend to diminish I-AA. Anyone who respects the subclassification abhors last minute cancellations.
Me do my homework?
:lmao:

In other AAMU football news....

AAMU will be playing UAPB in the GATEWAY CLASSIC in St. Louis, Missouri....that and SU for homecoming will be interesting!!!!:)

I don't want to talk about McNeese/Southern any more. We could go round and round for days. Except to say that I'd really like to see them play. Y'all know who I'd be for.

Do you think Lenny would have preferred McNeese over Allen or Lincoln? LOL

To think, I was arguing the other side with a McFan Saturday night....lol....not so much arguing, just trying to paint the other picture, like here.....

To my knowledge, Grambling does play home and home with Savannah State. Why not drop them instead? IMO, because it's an easy win.

As for the AAMU/Jville St series, these "they don't travel well enough" arguments would carry more weight if a team that was doing the dropping wasn't getting worn out by the team they dropped.

It is my opinion that, especially as much as we like to talk about our attendance, we should be able to pack our stadiums regardless of how many fans the opponent brings. You think Montana counts on Northern Arizona to bring folks to pack their place?

I think Annie Mae is doing what they need to do, financially. If they can make more money playing TennState as compared to keeping JaxState, then they;d be foolish not to make the change......

I just wonder how many SWAC schools TennState will wind up playing this year..... They're the 'team to play' outside of the SWAC....

:(

The 120,000 argument works for me.

2 SWAC - Jackson State & AAMU
1 MEAC - SCSU
1 Indy - FAMU

We love to play more upper-tier, well traveled SWAC schools. Heck, most our alumni would love see any HBCU on our schedule. Myself, I would love to play Southern and Grambling anywhere especially home and home. However, if FAMU ever drops the Atlanta Football Classic, SU would make a great replacement.

yes JSU use to always kick our ass.... but you may not know that JSU use to be a D2 powerhouse.... they use to beat the hell out of every team they played... they won national championships... UNA and Jacksonville state both use to beat the hell out of us every year and both were consistant national championship contenders.

BBT,

I don't think that FAMU will drop this game anytime soon. Last year attendance was over 71,000 and has been shown on regional t.v. in the southeast the last 3 years but stranger things have happen. This game is really big in the ATL as you already know and believe it or not getting bigger every year.

AAMU has invested a lot of money into our program and we have to do what is best to increase the program. We have to do what is best for AAMU and what will bring us the best gates. I like the idea of a good game, which is what the vast majority of those games were, eventhough we came up on the short end of the stick the majority of the time. However, when you have an inequity in participation, someone has to have the courage to say change it or else and then act on the threat. Props to our AD.

Carry on.

As FAMU grow's as a I-A and/or NCAA rules change regarding 1As playing 1AA's you never know. Not to mention that FAMU has dominated the game w/ 1AA talent just imagine how lopsided it COULD get if they start to bring in some TRUE 1A recruits. Also, there have been discussions about getting more money from the 100 Black Men. The game has now sold out (70K) the last two years and we're still getting paid like we drawing 40K over at Ga Tech. As many may recall, this is the reason that FAMU/TSU dropped in the early 90's and SU/SCSU took our place.

I am sorry to here about the abysmal payout. Apparently all of the sponsorship is only putting money in the promoters pocket.

is this smack or is this the truth. I took a look at jsu schedule, i didn't see a score that would require a running clock.
