AJC Blog: Mo'Nique Show Cancelled

I liked her show...hell she had lots of good guests on there. It's funny that the majority of black men hate this woman. I have yet to meet one that actually likes Monique. and it's so strange b/c she is always uplifting and loving on black men and black people in general, so I really don't get where all this hate towards her comes from. Damn, what did she do to y'all?

My people...:smh:

It looks like in general that MANY black men don't like black women, especially successful black women. It's a shame.

And Mo has been nothing but uplifting to those on her show. There was some good in her show.

Kill that noise. Who hates black women? or Monique for that matter? You have not heard me post one thing negative about her in this thread, an please who hates successful black women? Now if you are referring to Oprah, then yes I do not like her. Oprah has not done anything for the black community. Yet she has made sure her white buddies made it in the industry. She has done nothing for TNSU. Yes she gave Spelman money, big deal, but there is no reason TNSU should not have the best Telecommunication program or building in the nation.

Maybe for you. And I also said "in general" - not every black man. If you don't feel that way, then I'm clearly not talking about you. But many of ya'll do seem to have problems with black women.

Just like many of yall play the victim role all the dam time. That shyt is annoying as hell!!!

The word hate is a STRONG word. Maybe "not cared" for is a better choice of words.

its called ratings......Wendy Williams has more appeal to the majority as she hosts multiple shows on other networks

Mo'Nique had ratings. Wendy didn't limit herself just to the black community with her stuff. That allowed more folks to know about her.

Mo'Nique's success has be somewheat limited to the black community before Precious and that Oscar. How much nonblack stuff have we seen Mo'Nique do? Aside from a very good teen book that she put out years ago and Charm School, not much. I think she has figured that out and now is trying to move up.

I have yet to meet one that actually likes Monique. and it's so strange b/c she is always uplifting and loving on black men and black people in general, so I really don't get where all this hate towards her comes from. Damn, what did she do to y'all?

I think the hate is because she's honest and at times down to earth. How many roles has she played where it's "woe is me a black man done did me wrong?" She got left at the altar and didn't cry about it-she moved on. She took pain and made it into a positive.

I never watched her show (not because I didn't want to, just never got around to watching it), but I love her! She definitely has a way of making the people around her comfortable and feel at ease. She came to one of the Delta Classics for Literacy game in Little Rock and she was simply awesome! She is a beautiful, full-figured Black diva who has great talent.

She'll definitely have more projects, Crit.......don't forget, she is an Academy Award winning actress, which makes her a Hollywood commodity! And I'm sure she'll remember those who were on her staff.

Not wishing her bad...........but I don't think her Oscar carries much clout. It shole has not helped Halle Berry who has the Hollywood look and actually is a decent actress. Hollyhood is still about WHO you know. And unless she rolls with the Denzels, Will Smiths and others who are true black powerhouse Hollywood folks. She is going to be at a disadvantage. Plus them white folks and Jews who run that place look at her Oscar differently than they do those white girls and even differently than they do Denzel's.

Probably because she seems obnoxious. LOL. My Mom can't stand her......LOL. I liked her better in a sitcom. I don't mind her getting her money. But I guess she just aint smooth enough for ole JR to like. A little too ghetto fab....

Soror, I like successful black women. But those who exhibit a little bit more class than a Monique. I love Angela Basset and it's a shame that sister did not get an Oscar but someone like Monique did. But that's just my opinion though. I root for Jada Pinkett Smith, Nia Long, Queen Latifah, Gabby Union, Sanaa Lathan etc....to continue their Hollywood run. I hated to see shows like Girlfriends get cancelled. I liked all those actresses. But some folks.....just don't cut it for me and Monique is one of them. Even though I did like the Parkers.

Co-sign! I know a few other women who are not that crazy about her. My mom is one of them, Royal One is another, Royal One's sister can't stand her. The ONLY reason I watch the show was to see the guest. Thank God for DVRs. I have her show set for auto record. I will look at the line up. If I see a guest or performer I am interested in, I will watch ONLY that segment. I fast forward through the monologue and everything else.

The problem I have with some of these comedians is that some of them TRY to be something else that they are not...or are not ready for. I was cool with Steve Harvey until his ass got to the point where he thought he could start given folks life lessons. Monique's does that shit too. Gott DAMMIT...just make me laugh!!!! Entertain me gott dammit! If I need a life coach I will hire one. Stop trying to be ALL things to everyone.

JR, you should know by now that you're not considered one of the "angry black men" on this board, so my post wasn't about you.

Like JR said...Monique's appeal doesn't go far....she tried syndicated radio and got booted out of Houston as no one wanted to hear that mess as we already have enough black shows where the co-host co-signs ON EVERYTHING with the paid star

The comedy bit has worn off, Precious was a good movie but not enough for the suburban white teen to appeal (demographics), I'm not even sure what channel her show came on :emlaugh:

Its not about hate over here....she's an actor who's good only in phases...I think the "big girl" phase has gone and went on TV

As for Oprah...the OW Network is struggling also as she fired her Creative Content Director and the Gail King Show is struggling once again after doing the same years ago......some people have to know when to give it up

It's called hustling and trying to stay afloat. Don't you have more than one hustle? Don't hate on them for capitalizing on their celebrity.

And don't hate me for be being critical (no pun intended) of their celebrity. I'm not "hating" them for trying something new, but that doesn't meant they can't suck at it.

I think her Academy Award will carry clout. Denzel Washington didn't start his career taking serious roles (i.e. Carbon Copy), neither did Will Smith or Jada Pinkett Smith, or Halle Berry, or Jamie Fox but their success came anyway. And as for Mo'Nique rolling "with the Denzels, Will Smiths and others who are true black powerhouse Hollywood folks", ironically it was a Tyler Perry movie she starred in that won her rightfully deserved Academy Award. She wasn't rolling with those so-called black powerhouse Hollywood folks, but won anyway. Like you said, "Hollywood is about WHO you know"....so apparently she knows who's who.

Well let's be honest, Mo is alright on the comedy circuit, but she ain't no prime Hollywood chick. America loves pretty dime pieces, not cutie pigs. Sorry it ain't gone happen, unless it is a big girl flick, then the cutie pigs will come out in force.
