Affidavit: Sex with Cole occurred before alleged rape

ATHENS, Ga. -- An affidavit says one of the University of Georgia athletes suspended in a rape investigation had consensual sex with the alleged victim earlier that night.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported Wednesday that the information was from a Jan. 15 search warrant affidavit.

University police Detective Eric Dellinger wrote that the woman reported she had consensual sex with junior basketball guard Tony Cole before two other men accosted her in Cole's dorm room.

Cole has been dismissed from the team, Georgia athletics department officials told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Saturday.

The affidavit says the woman told police that after she and Cole had sex, Cole went to a bathroom and a man she didn't know emerged from a closet and sexually molested her. The woman told the man to stop, and he left after several unsuccessful attempts to rape her.

The woman told police she went to the bathroom and when she returned, sophomore basketball player Steven Thomas got on top of her and the two had sex. The affidavit does not indicate whether the sex was consensual. The woman initially reported to police that she was raped by someone she knew.

Last week, Cole, Thomas and junior football cornerback Brandon Williams were suspended by athletic officials. University police said a basketball player was accused of rape and a football player of attempted rape. Another basketball player, was identified as being an accessory.

No charges have been filed.

You know, there's a time to joke around and have fun. There's also a time to inject humor into non-humorous occasions. But I didn't find anything funny in the story. Here we have another black male being accused of raping a girl. Raping a girl he knew. The fact that they hid in a closet and came out and tried it, leads me to believe that they think this type of behavior is acceptable. And when we(the on-looker) makes 'light' of the indicent, it comes across as 'condoning' the behavior.

And to also say that the accused will be transferring to JState isn't funny at all.

Just thought I'd say that.....What you're implying and saying isn't funny. This situation isn't funny......

This article was not posted for a joke or any kind of smack, but let them joke how they want... I am sure...similar situations have happened at all campuses whether related to sports or not!!!!

The story wasn't about Jackson State. The story was about the Univ. of Georgia. YOU MADE THE COMMENTS ABOUT JACKSON STATE!!!! And all I said to you was that the story wasn't funny, but serious. And your comments weren't funny. There's nothing funny about the story.... And your attempt to link the Georgia players to Jackson State by saying they weren't gonna transfer and be starters wasn't funny at all. That's all. You're the one getting all mad and tihs...Grow up fella......Know when to play and when not to.......
 
Tony Cole is from Baton Rouge. He played high school ball at Glen Oaks High as a freshman and Sophomore. His junior year, he transferred to Dominquez High in California but broke his foot.
He eventually returned to BR and graduated from Second Chance Academy.

I didn't coach Tony in the youth leagues, but he and my son's and several other kids that I coach developed a casual friendship. Tony has had his share of trouble, but when you meet him he is a very mannerable young man. I hope it works out for him. I know he has a good relationship with Ben Jobe. As a matter of fact, my daughter said she talked to him on campus recently and he told her he was visiting Ben Jobe (personal/friendly visit).


Not trying to paint Tony as an angel, and not excusing whatever involvement he had in this incident. I just hate that he and "trouble" always seem to find each other. I really think he tries to do right, but somehow the temptation and circumstances get the best of him.

Don't worry about it Bengal. Let 'em drown in his own shallowness. He's arguing a point. And it makes sense to him, but not to anybody else. He doesn't get it. mighty HOnuts, pls dont let this turn out to be some sorta of ASSu logic. I really thought that you could see through this one.

Simple and plain is this. First, the bashing on Darnell was on the smack board and about ASSu football team. Second, this thread is about University of Georgia and their team. These two do not mix. If you wanted to bash on our rappis.....errrr......rappers, then you are a couple of weeks late. Cause that thread is long, gone now.

Now, noone is disagreeing about charges or anything, but this is about U of Georgia. I was expecting to see what people had to say about this since I am following this carefully in the media here in ATL.



I should have guess that mighty HOnuts thinking was the same as someone called "big giggles".

Yeah, but I was still looking to hear from people with some sorta logic sense regarding this topic. The latest I know of is that the players were allowed to practice, but Georgia may be expelling them anyway. I wanted to see if anyone heard of anything else. Not trying to hear anything about our rappis.....errr.....rappers.

These guys could be kicked out of school for what???? Sleeping with a female? I know the original "train" theory:

You go to the bathroom and your friend comes out of the closet or from under the bed and sleeps with the woman.

But, after the alleged guy left the room, the girl slept with another person. Now, something is definitely strange about that. If she was attacked and was about to be raped, then why would she sleep with someone else after the rapis.....errr..rapper leave the room???

If you wanna smack about the Jackson State guys accused of raping that girl, then go ahead!!!! We can all have some laughs...

But don't act like just because the same type of alleged incident takes place somewhere else(Georgia), that THAT event is related to the JState event. 'Cause that's bull****..... I'm certain Alabama State's got some history somewhere they aren't exactly proud of either. But the BOTTOM LINE is this: If it's the JSU story, then smack on JSU!!!! But if it ain't JSU.........

You kinda got your boards confused. This is neither the Band Board nor the Smack Board ... this is the SPORTS board, where SPORTS INFORMATION is disseminated. If smack had been the intended outcome, it would have been posted originally on the Smack Board.

Now back to the subject. it looks like Tony Cole is going to play tonight. They were talking about it on the news last night. Being that the young lady went back home, they are talking about her dropping the charges against Cole and the last guy...
