Congratulations Jags. You're proving yet again that you are the flagship athletic program in the SWAC by making another bold yet calculated move to take your program to higher heights. While $12 is a good bit of a hike I believe if anyone in your conference can pull it off it is you. Our tickets at FAMU range from $25 to $35 (presently, the highest in 1-AA) for home games and we still average over 20,000 for home games a year so I believe you can do this as well. And our opponents at home by end large aren't as appealing as the opponents you bring home (at least to me).

A bigger issue then the price hike, I think, will be moving your students to the endzone while also making them pay more. This, not the more expensive tickets, will be the administration's war. The administration should come up with a very impressive presentation to convince them that this is a just cause. I think one of the things the administration should do is allow the students to move out of the endzone and in/near their traditional seats for games that are not sell outs. If this is allowed they may only have to sit in the endzone for homecoming. This and other creative ideas may cause them to go along with this plan.

Again, Congrats!

Oh yeah, this is my first post on this board, even though I've looked on here for a few months now.
The problem with this idea bamaSNAKE, is there is something called a walkup crowd which I would guess at SU is around at least 2000 if not more.

So say you have a game that isn't exactly solded out by a few thousand by that thrusday. Saturday here comes your walkup crowd, are you to lose that money just to satisfied a few?

That's a good point bluedog. I guess I never thought about that because I always have my football ticket ahead of time. The only sport at FAMU that I get walk up tickets for is basketball and I'll stop that this coming season when I go ahead and get season tickets for that too. It's starting to get crowded at our B-ball games, with even some sell outs, so I don't want to miss a game just because I left work early. :smh:

How much higher are walk up football tickets at your games vs. tickets gotten early? I'm not sure but I think they are at least $5 higher at Bragg.

I don't know if they are higher or not because I don't get walk-ups either, but I don't think that SU charges any more for walk-ups. Maybe somebody else can say different.

that's why you become friends with a Regent Member to avoid those high prices :shh:

all that does is force SU to upgrade its schedule on a yearly basis to generate the crowds

but $28 a ticket? Lets say the team steps back into the 2000 season when they were average....you really thnk they will sell out against Valley? TSU? PV? etc... AAMU?

I'll say this year's crowds will be like this:

1. McNeese
2. North Carolina A&T
3. Texas College (only because it's homecoming)
4. Texas Southern
5. Mississippi Valley State

I imagine there would have been more of an uproar over the increase had the home games been these instead:

1. Texas Southern
2. Texas College
3. Mississippi Valley State
4. Allen

It's good to know that another HBCU is already charging this amount and averaging 20K+.

SU fans are the most demanding, vocal, spirited fans of any college football program. We will now have the ability to be even more vocal with our wallets.

Face it ......................... $18 or $28. People are going to buy them anyway. Just like on a Saturday in Jackson when people are cussin' about paying $20-plus for every home game. They complain and show up every week. They just gonna have to get use to it.

Dang-it S.U. Now our shat is gonna go up again. :p

If I am going to pay $28 for a ballgame I want to see better officiating. As a fan I want to see some quality officiating for the price of the game. I am not going to continue to pay high prices for ballgames because someone think we are not being charged enough for these games. I am beginning to see more people interested in tailgating than most of the games. Poorly called games cannot justify these high prices. If a fan only attend one game a year then $28 dollars is not a problem, but if you support your team on the road and at home then as fans it is my belief that we must decide if the games are worth the money we pay.

MD,

AAMU problem is not officiating. You are playing against much better talent than you did in the SIAC. Selling wolf tickets and making flagrant fouls will only get you beat worse in this league.

How true.

People have been complaining LOUDLY about the ref's in this league forever. What changes?.....nothing. :look:

The SWAC office has proved they won't do anything about this. We have had and continue to have the WORST REF's IN THE COUNTRY. And each year the same goof's are on the field making the same f-ed up call's. :redhot:

You gotta learn to play through it. :flippy:

Question to SU folks,

Has any thought ever been given to moving the band to another location? They sit right there on the 50 yard line. Those are premium seats that you all are losing money on. If you are going to move the students, maybe you should move the band too.

You are definitely right about this. But we know this ain't about to happen at SU. The Boom is put at the 35 yard line or so, and they ain't gone be moved either.

I think that's part of the plan since they are students also. It would actually be unfair to move some students and not the band.

A lot of us agree that the band should be moved to the endzone or parallel with the visiting band (0-10 yard line)

I support the expansion and the increased ticket prices. Won't stop me from coming to support my beloved JAGUARS!!!

Congrats to us! :jump:

I disagree. If I were in charge, visiting bands would be in the endzone, if we had endzone seating. Sideline seats need to be sold. Money wasted, otherwise.

I believe the bands should be across from each other...on the 20 or so..lets be honest..half those games won't sell out anyway and putting the band in Bermuda won't solve any problems..folks will still pick and choose their games.

but the real loser is the opposing fan, especially the student...they will have to come off of $30 bucks each just to see their team play and then they have to sit in some bad seats. Say its PV and TSU at Mumford vs SU

$30 for ticket
$50 for gas (roundtrip)
$20 for food (if you don't eat more than twice)
$10 for parking
$50 for hotel

$160 bucks for a measly trip to Baton Rouge

we have 2 games in Reliant Stadium and top price is $26

:whine: :whine: :whine:

What you really mean is , you don't think your team is worth paying $160 bucks to watch.

watching SU isn't worth $28 either...ain't like you have a roster full of 1st round draft picks

if I want to pay for the talent on the field, might as well support GSU and the old JSU teams with Morris and Anderson...those teams had more talent than SU has recently.

We won the SIAC tarzanboy. But we NEVER had a runnin' clock!

Now, for the sake of staying on the topic of this thread after setting stupid-pride straight...

Congrats SU on your facilities upgrades and renovations.

That is all.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Maybe you're missing this but the price increase doesn't have anything to do with you or anyone outside of the SU family. If you don't want to pay then don't, that will just be one more seat for a JaguarNation fan

In most instances (and especially the D-1 programs,) the bands are in the endzones, as are most of the student sections.
