The north end zone of A.W. Mumford Stadium will get an addition of 2,500 seats.
The Southern Board of Supervisors increased Jaguar football ticket prices by $12 per home game Friday as part of a plan to enclose the northern end zone at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
The proposal was added to the board's agenda at the last minute Friday, and triggered a heated debate about its impact on football fans.

"There comes a time where we have to pay to play," board member Tony Clayton said.

Low of $28.00 per ticket??? That's putting your money where your mouth is. I'm guessing there will be some sad little children when this goes into effect.

DAAAYUUUUUUM!

$28.00. That's kinda up there. If it all pans out it will still be good for SU though in the long run.....It'll be interesting to see if folks buy those $28.00 tickets, especially for those low-interest games.

p.s. Thinking about how the stadium is made.... Adding only 2500 seats? That will mean that the closed in area will be much shorter than the two sides. Probably about 10 rows deep at max.

I thought the Jags were figuring on expanding towards 30,000 at A.W. The price of $28 is steep for a program that will be extinct from Gramblingham. Good strides -- Jags.

Actually, the capacity of Mumford would be real close to 30,000K with the additional seats. They considered 26,400 a sell out last year. That was the number of tickets sold, but you still have to figure in the student section. So Mumford, I think is now at should be at 28K plus the expansion would be at 30K if I'm not mistaken.

Noise Talka: I think the fieldhouse will be built underneath the 2500- seat addition. But it still may not rise to the height of the east and west side seating.

Will Tony still get his free tickets?

How much does Tony raise each year as a trustee?

When I read statements made in the context of Tony Clayton, I am always curious of what they do for the University. We have a lot of these folks talking big but never raise a dime. Not picking on SU, but we all know some who talk big but never support anything with sweat and tears.

Fantastic! Now when UAPB play there in 2006, SU can alot UAPB fans more seats than they have in the past. :jump:

The Field House will not be build under the 2,500 seats, but rather behind it with a concourse level between the field house and the seats. I have the detailed rendering in my hand as I reply to this thread. The new additional seats will bring Mumford in compliance with the 30,000 seats capacity if Southern should ever apply for D-1. The new section will be the student section. We will not be playing UAPB in Baton Rouge in 06, but somewhere in Arkansas. The $28.00 ticket isn't to much, because we paid nearly that to play TSU in U of H stadium last season. The new facility will be state-of-art and will be two-story. Nor are we depending on the visiting teams to help us fill our venue because they don't travel in large groups to Baton Rouge or bring nearly 40 buses.

There will be additional restrooms and concessions stands. We paid $28.00 when we went to Houston last year to play Texas Southern and $22.00 on game day when we played Jackson State last year.

DRShelly,

That $22.00 you paid for tickets in Jackson was the highest ticket. The $28.00 tickets at SU will be the cheapest ticket. Big difference. That's why I think the little kids will be most likely to suffer. Parents will go, but might not be able to bring lil Johnny and Tiffany.

For a winning team and good schedule the folks will pay.
There is nothing like being on the yard on Saturday for a good football game.
The new schedule is on time.
SU is moving up to the big time.
You pay for what you get.
Foodstamps just won't cut it anymore.
Go jags. Look across the city and see how LSU does it. It cost more to sit in the endzone then it does at SU.

:jump:

It seems like a no-win situation for the student and if I was a student I would be kinda pissed. Not only are you making them move from their tradition seats where they can see the game from a side of the field where you see the whole field, but to a end zone section that looks like the seats are low for field viewing. You're raising the ticket prices and you're upping their student fees to pay for it. And those ticket prices you claimed to have paid at the TSU game was not the norm, that was a game day price that TSU instituted for that game only. You could have paid $18 for those same seats if you purchased your ticket before a certain time on that same day.

lsu and su are two different things.lsu has 90k stadium to fill.they can charge what ever they want. you ever watch their games on tv. there are hadly any small kids at the game. students have to buy home ticket packages.if you are going to expand i say expand right. atleast build those seats high to give a tunnel affect for the players instead of low seats just to close off the fieldhouse.that's the one thing i would change about gram stadium.players have to walk from a long way.. i thought they should have moved those steps into the middle of that hill with a covering over it.

While a 'per ticket' increase on $12 seems a bit much, I understand why SU's doing it.... They've got to fund the expansion the best way they can. And if football is the biggest revenue-generating sport, then that's where the money has to come from........

But I don't see most people paying $12 more for games where they don't draw regularly anyway...... Therefore, the ticket increase may last several seasone, instead of just one or two......

:smh:

Congratulations Jags. You're proving yet again that you are the flagship athletic program in the SWAC by making another bold yet calculated move to take your program to higher heights. While $12 is a good bit of a hike I believe if anyone in your conference can pull it off it is you. Our tickets at FAMU range from $25 to $35 (presently, the highest in 1-AA) for home games and we still average over 20,000 for home games a year so I believe you can do this as well. And our opponents at home by end large aren't as appealing as the opponents you bring home (at least to me).

A bigger issue then the price hike, I think, will be moving your students to the endzone while also making them pay more. This, not the more expensive tickets, will be the administration's war. The administration should come up with a very impressive presentation to convince them that this is a just cause. I think one of the things the administration should do is allow the students to move out of the endzone and in/near their traditional seats for games that are not sell outs. If this is allowed they may only have to sit in the endzone for homecoming. This and other creative ideas may cause them to go along with this plan.

Again, Congrats!

Oh yeah, this is my first post on this board, even though I've looked on here for a few months now.

Lets stop this poor student bullsh@t before it starts. First of all most students don't come to the games and the ones that do a large percentage of them aren't there for the games.

Off the top of my head this is what I spend on all the revenue sports a year:

Football 22 x $5= $110
Baseball 15 x $5= $75
Basketball 11 x $7= $77
Total=$262

I remind you this is just for me and not including my two daugthers so if you triple that total you have my yearly entertainment expenses. As far as I'm concern the students aint got isht to say.

The students are paying a hell of alot less than that to go to all those games that they don't make and lets stop kidding ourselves who pays for the tuition the students or their parents?

Pell and Student Loans too...and scholarships. Basically most student will just get a lower refund check.

Exactly, I didn't want to get into the Pell Grants and Scholarship thing because that should go without saying that they don't pay for those. As for the student loan that they have to pay back we all know that parents help out with those too and for those that don't have that luxury they still pay a hell of alot less than do the regular fan/parent.
