A Tribe Called Quest

My favorite rap group is at it again!!!!

Groundbreaking rap group A Tribe Called Quest are in the studio putting together a reunion album. Well, sort of. The long-awaited project ?due out later this year or early next year?is not being made for sentimental purposes; the group owes an album to its longtime label Jive Records and has to fulfill contractual obligations

1993

Tribe hasn't made a good album since Midnight Marauders in 1993, that was almost 10 years ago. Q-tip musics is borderline homo and Phifes' album straight flopped. I'm not going to even look forward to this release. I hope that i'm pleasantly surprised, they used to be one of my fav groups to.

I've actually enjoyed all of their releases...including Phife's cd(cuz Pete Rock produced most of it) and a couple of songs off of Q-Tips's(Kamaal) forthcoming cd.

Actually Beats Rhymes & Life is my fav Tribe cd.

what??!!

Beats Rhymes and Life was terrible to me. Thats when they let the the dude w/ the glasses in the group. He must have been somebodys cousin or something cuz he was wack. Low End Theory and Mid Maurauders were truly great albums though. I'm not a huge Pete Rock fan either and I couldn't stand CL Smooth as a rapper. I like Primo, LES, and Hangman3 in terms of East coast production. Overall though, you have to put Tribe down as one of greatest duo's of all time (ie: EPMD, Outkast, and Greg Nice and Smooth, and Run DMC).

Bet!

This one may not have been my favorite (ala Midnight Marauders), it was definitely tight! A lot of people slept on this one back in '96, but I don't know why. That production was vintage Ummah sound...and the guest appearances by ol dude (forgot his name) was workin'!.

Thanks for the update.

I'm a True Tribe fan, so I HAVE to get this one when it comes out! :D

Aye.....maybe they all just work better together. If Ali is on the production, you can expect some tight stuff...

Mr. Mat:

Man...just give Beats one more listen...:)

As far as East Coast Production, goes...my list STILL hasn't changed:

Premier
RZA
Ali Shaheed Mohammed (he hadn't done anything in a while for hip hop, but he blessed everything he put down)

Main Source???!!!!

you aint talking about large professor from Main Source are you????? Old school Main Source??? That dude looked young for some reason. Damn! YOu told me something then. Live from the Barbeque, Main Source that put Nas on??? Damn!

NICE

Naw...he's talkin' about this young cat...Consequence (just remembered).
I liked his delivery, and I thought he was gonna come out with his own joint, but I haven't heard anything since.

The last time Large Professor was featured LYRICALLY on a Tribe album was back on Marauders (Keep It Rollin).

I love Beats Rhymes & Life because I like pretty much everything Ali and Jay Dee produce behind the boards.

Plus: maybe you haven't heard that CD in the "frame of mind" that I always listen to it in. Man...the music on that CD is really cool. Classic Tribe sound.

And I really like Stressed Out ft. Faith Evans. Hell, I like pretty much everything Faith Evans is on too.

Pete Rock is one of my favorite producers. Him, Jay Dee and Ali.

Jarobi send help!!!

Since we're talking about The Tribe...De La Soul's last 2 cds were HEAVILY slept on. De La Soul is my 3rd fav group behind Tribe and Outkast.

I didn't get the LAST De La album, but I did cop the one before that! They are ALWAYS gettin' slept on, even though the have a thorough product EACH AND EVERY TIME.

Ironically, most people was crazy about "Stressed Out" but me! :) I don't know what it is about that song. It's cool, but I didn't like listening to it that much. I don't know if it's because of the hook (even though I really like Faith) or what.

My favorite joint from the album was "The Crew"...the one where Tip caught his boy and his lady gettin' it on (it's too short, though).

I felt that the Ummah took the production to a different level with that one. True, it was tad bit different from what was used in the past, but it still maintained that "jazzy/Roy Ayers" feel to it! :D

De La's last album was very good

I have Beats Rhymes and Life at the crib. Lyrically it didn't measure up to me, the production was above average. I really enjoyed the beat to Stressed Out. Stakes is High, the album, was a classic CD by De La in my opinion. The last one they put out was extremely good also. I have it downloaded on my computer at work and it's damn good. De La was more raunchy on that CD though, that shocked me. The song Porn Star was over the edge for De La.

p.s.. The new AZ cd is good and please don't sleep on that Raphael Saadiq.

I burned Saadiq...it's starting to grow on me. I had to listen to it a couple of times.

I'm still searching for a quick downloading MP3 source to get that AZ cd. WINMX.COM is up and down. The others didn't work out for me.

Maybe Dawn Robinson will realize that she will never be a successful solo artist and she'll get back with Ray and Ali and drop another Lucy Pearl cd. Joi sucks!!! I bought her CD...listened to it once...and literally threw it away. Worst piece of ish I've heard since My Neck, My Back

I liked Beats Rhymes & Life....

...cause it had a cool CD cover :ebrow:

Otherwise, it sucked :D I'll still look foward to the new joint.

I might have to get that AZ joint...I keep hearing too many good things about it. He's been letting my down since his initial release, but maybe this one will put him over the hump.

I STILL haven't had a chance to listen to Saadiq even though I copped it the week it came out! :(
Only two songs crossed my ears, and they were pretty cool...

Speaking of growing on you...Nasty, you might need to give that Glenn Lewis cd....you may just like it this time around!

Has anybody heard the Soundbombing 3, yet?
I'm really feeling "The Life" with Styles and Pharaoh Monche. I'm wondering if it's better than Sb II.

*guess I"ll find out soon enough...*

Soundbombing 3 is tight!!

I bought it last week and was diggin it from the first to the last song. "The Life" by Styles P (the Lox) & Pharoahe Monch is a banger!! :) :)

I can say is it's a must have!!! ;) ;) :ebrow:

No no hope at all...

now back to the topic...

I think the whole ATCQ dilemma is that everyone except Ali Shaheed has an inflated ego. Pfife Dawg and Q-Tip need to get together and make another classic instead of just going through the motions...

Got every one of their albums & singles.

welp, would have to concure; HUGE Tribe fan here. That was one of the ground breaking groups in an era of rap/HH explosion. I can listen to those cuts right now and it's just like the early 90s was last night. It killed me when they broke up.

where do I buy the copy? where? it's as good as bought.

Q-tip Homo blast? SIAS!

OUCH!!! MM, eeeeasy. Q-tip music borderline homo? Phifes' album straight flopped?(true. I got it. I was dissappointed.) But uuuh,,, Q-tip homo??? What's your basis for that blast? Why do you say that? Please expand on that take. :eek2:

Q-tip in a BET movie? Not familiar with that. What's the name of it so I can check it out and form an opinion?

Ntelekt, I didn't like "Stressed Out" either.

It was alright for an across the board track that you could play at a wedding reception or something that most could bob to while chatting,, but it was not a "hit" from my perspective. It was like a close-out, end of the party, mugz breaking everything down and packing up your gear and it's time for yall to get the hello on kind of cut to me.

Well I hope that its lyrically interesting. I'm sure they'll go back to the basics with some help from Busta Rhymes.
