A&M vs Tuskegee, Troy vs UAB, and Miles vs Univ. of N. Alabama

Cee, to be honest I am gonna withold judgement on that also. Traditionally 'Skegee has not drawn well in Bham nor A&M for that matter - when you factor in the number of alums in this area and what the A&M crowd SHOULD be - there have been games that A&M played at Miles and I have sat on A&M side with an entire section to myself - and thats on Miles campus stadium. The Labor Day Classic games on Sundays have drawn well because it's a Sunday evening, nothing else to do - that game does not have anything to compete with at that time -even if people have gone out of town for the Labor Day weekend, a lot of them have returned home to Bham by the time the game kick's off, there is not another game on TV that draws major interest - it's Sunday evening and you dont have to get up for work or church the next day - so a lot of 'real' factors come into play for that Sunday evening game.

I tried to tell ESPN execs the same thing when they were doing the MEAC/SWAC Challenge here initially...Saturday during the day was going to be too hot for "our crowd' to come out, Saturday evening you had other things to compete with - the best time for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge is Sunday evening - while they did move the game to Sunday, it's still a daytime game - now you have to compete with First Sunday church service AND the heat. And all you have to do is look at the year SU/FAMU played here in Bham...I think anyone on this board that is honest would agree that in a normal circumstance SU/FAMU is going to be a major draw - the HEAT won the game on that day - AND the very next evening (Sunday) Miles/Tuskegee outdrew the SU/FAMU game.

Yeah, when JSU used to take over Bham for Labor Day, it was on Sunday night.

 ............ OK.
More than likely for next year, JSU will schedule a home game for the open slot we got at the beginning of the season on Labor Day.

I think we get 12 games next year. Next year SHOULD have been the year that we scheduled MS State...not this year.

As the two sides continue to negotiate the renewal of the Turkey Day Classic, the future of the series between the Golden Tigers and the Hornets remains in limbo. The ASU schedule hasn’t been released and the Tuskegee schedule lists “TBA” for a date and location.

ASU officials have planned for some time to open the new Hornet Stadium on Thanksgiving Day against Tuskegee.

Tuskegee, coming off a rare losing season in 2011, opens the season on Sept. 1 with a 6 p.m. game against Alabama A&M in Birmingham’s Legion Field.

Nope, they will more than likely be our Lewis Crews Classic game like in 2011.
Update . . . Contract finalized.

Shockingly, Tuskegee was the sticking point.

They (Tuskegee) agreed to play their 2014 home game against A&M in Legion Field on Labor Day weekend also (this year's game is their home game too, of course). I assume A&M will play their 2013 home game there too???

Sounds like a pretty good weekend in The Ham . . .

I don't blame yall for that.

As much as I love Birmingham, and Legion Field, I NEVER liked playing there before the Magic City Classic.

It just didn't feel right.

We've played Jackson St., Grambling, Tennessee State, UAB, Miles and maybe others there, and I always went to the game, but never really liked it. It seemed to take a little away from the MCC trip when you went there before the Classic.

Now, going to the SCG after the Classic was cool.

The people at Troy and UAB can build a big rivalry, but it will take some time. The Troy people seem more excited about USA games than UAB. All 3 should try to play each other every year, but with whats going on with conferences I dont know if it will happen. They really could be the big money games for them, but they are not there yet.
