24 teams in FCS playoffs with home games

Sounds reasonable to an extent but what happens the season Southern, Grambling and Alabama State finishes first, second and third leaving the fourth ranked team with a 6-5 record or even worse 5-6 record in that spot to represent us in the playoffs? :retard:

We do it in basketball since we give the winner of the tournament the bid and not the season ending leader.

Honestly I would like to see the SWAC officials jump on this chance to play in the D-1AA playoffs, and move the Bayou classic - Turkey day classic game dates. I know some ppl prolly wont like that but come'on, its time for a change. Am I the only one tired of looking at other teams on ESPN and ESPN 2 in the playoffs and the SWAC gets ESPNU for the SCG..I felt JSU could have done damn good last year in the playoffs, and Feel we should wanna compete with the best.

Just my thoughts

How you gonna make those schools move their most important money game when they are within their right to host those games at those times.

What first or second round FCS playoff games are on ESPN or ESPN2? Not a single one......

Pretty much u get *****-ish responses like having the 3rd place team in the SWAC represent the conference in the Playoffs against the Nation best...

Like I said above, we do it in basketball all the time.

So in essence, you've formulated your opinion and based it off a handful of message board posters and lumped practically every SWAC fan as against the playoffs huh? You'll find quite a few who are in support of the playoffs but after the 2,436,752nd thread about this very topic most people get tired of even commenting about it.

So if you go on another message board and find 10-15 SoCon message board posters who are in favor of a championship/bowl type season ending game will you say the same about the SoCon?

True, I did that, but really come"on you cant say its not bias on here. Your right they do have alot of threads on this topic, and it seems like everyone I go to people are shooting the topic down before it even gets started, so my bad if I grouped you in that circle, I just Thats all I see, and I dont know whos and what side..

Gotcha, so you're referring to the NCAA when you say "We" as in basketball but in this instance when it comes to football, it would be a by-law amendment exclusively to the SWAC?

What would ASU, Gram or SU have to gain by giving up our games so the conference can be eligible for the playoffs. Nobody is going to make any money, we are not going to get any home games and if we won we would be the National Champion of Something That Nobody Cares About.

I'm not in favor of the bid process to host a home game... we probably would be better off going on the road and having our expenses paid. Not sure how much money we are making from the SCG, but thinking a successful FCS playoff run might help in INCREASED brand recognition and market ($$$$) demand in upcoming seasons in our FBS money games.

As for the impact on the Classic... the attendance has dropped. I know that has to do with a lot of factors (winning records, economy, etc) but I think it's also a diminishing Brand Appeal to a shifting demographic of fans. Rather than wait til the inevitable (this is just MB's opinion) NBC termination of the televised game, let's see if ESPN will be interested in picking it up the week prior to the playoffs (date change) knowing that WHENEVER the BC determines the SWAC champion and auto bid participant (ESPN carries the FCS playoffs), it will be a marketing rating win for them. Plus ESPN could have it as College gameday event... NBC doesn't promote the BC at all, I think that ESPN will include it as part of their FCS promotional package. At least that's what I would suggest.

Again, I don't like how the NCAA keeps the money...but we can make revenue from Tailgating, Program Sells, Radio Spots, etc....surely there's some means of getting revenue to make it palatable.

My only issue with those here and on the MEACPage is that to promote the playoffs, you offer nothing different. Only EXPOSURE. Southern gets that from Cox Sports, ESPNU, etc.

Even with the 24 teams, what's the difference between then and now .... still no home games, even when your team whoops ass all year. It makes no sense to me that a team like Norfolk State, who busted MEAC ass last year had the "present" of driving ten minutes to face ODU?

Get the regionalization out, give conference champs home games PERIOD, and I'll think of going to the playoffs. Otherwise, as a Southern fan, Bama State or Grambling alum, what am I gaining from this?

And MB, we definitely agree on the bidding process ... that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I work my ass off all year just like Montana, Furman, SCSU and I have to outbid McNeese to get a home game even if my record is better than their's because they are two hours away?

Thats not true. That exposure you speak of is very regional. Plus when it comes to SWAC schools the very 1st thing other coaches use against us is that we do not participate in the playoffs. IMO I would love to see us make a push at a national championship.

I fell out my chair laughing when I saw that crap. The SWAC has to have the most delousional fans when it comes to their sense of importance on the rest of the "outside" world. :lmao:

Close this thread cause this is a waste of time.
People on here still acting like ONE CONFERENCE, THE SWAC, is so important that FCS has to make special concessions to the SWAC that they don't make to any other FCS conference. Talk about delousional. :smh:

We all know that SWAC minds will come up with any and all bullshat to keep the conference backwards, on the outside, and living in the past. We ain't playing for shat and we not making one damm dime off the SCG or these classics that are played after the playoffs start that has made any difference at any of our schools.

About %80 of the people I come across (white and black) think the SWAC is D2 in football. (ohh the arguments I have attempting to correct people)

The second question they ask after "what level ya'll play on" is "what do ya'll play for?" When I tell them only a conference title because we don't compete in the playoffs, people look at me like I'm crazy.

And this is what I'm saying who are we as a conference to think that the NCAA should start the playoffs a week later solely for the SWAC....fans on the website are very delusional every other conference in FCS football follows the same procedures but we think exceptions should be made for our conference! PLEASE...

Most people I run into think that all of FCS is D2. That includes most fans that attends their own schools games.

Like I said above, we do it in basketball all the time.

Basketball is different animal where the Big Boys send their best teams to the tourney even if they dont win the conference tourney...Most conference like the MEAC SWAC OVC and others only send 1 team to the tourney and they usually are the 14,15, or 16th seeds thats how the Tournament Board sets it up!

The NCAA went to 20 teams 2 seasons ago because of ONE conference, the Big South, adding enough teams to become eligible for an automatic bid. They changed the entire format of the playoffs for that reason, so why not push it back one week?

ESPNU and NBC are not regional. The SWAC (and MEAC) are the only 2 FCS conferences with national TV packages.

One question how has that helped the SWAC Brand of football? Southern (and please dont take this as smack) had a big head skinny quarterback that couldn't throw the ball 10 yards...this year Bayou Classic was over before the game started! Yes the SWAC and MEAC plays on national tv and so does High School Teams and Pee Wee Football....so are what is being gained from these tv games that makes the SWAC so much better from the other FCS...?

Has it hurt?

Those Saturday games are tape delayed on ESPN U (Thursday night we're up against the marqee matchup) B.C. I'll give you that one. Not trying to be negative but playing for a national championship should be most important. (especially if we have aspirations for moving up one day)

Live or tape-delayed, they are on NATIONAL.

Oh, and Georgia State, UTSA, ODU, and South Alabama have never played for a national championship, but they are moving up.

It helped in the past but why are we as conference continuing to do things that helped us in the PAST instead of looking for new ways to increase exposure to the conference....we are still living in the PAST and thats actually hurting! NBC spent more time talking about the stepshow, halftime, the food and Doug Williams...if you are happy with that then there is no hope...I cant wait for the next Steve McNair or Doug Williams to come along because the SWAC Conference has become a History lesson in football and thats it because we aint doing nothing new for folks to talk about! :smh:

Why not play these thanksgiving weekend game back one week? The playoffs still start on the excact same weekend they have always started on for the last 35 years. They just added more slots so that each conference winner can get a qualifing auto bid and a few more slots for at large bids that may come from the same conference.

FCS did not go to 20 teams because of one conference. They went to 20 and now 24 teams because they wanted more teams to participate that would otherwise get left out. The SWAC will still get left out because we so arrogent, we think special rules and concessions will be made for us. Killing part is supporters of this conference actually think it is the SWAC that is sticking it to FCS by not participating.

They have LEADERS with a vision and we Dont! They wanted to play with the big boys in FBS that was there goal...

Not a damm thing.
100% of those ESPNU games are tape delayed at 9:30pm going head to head with the LIVE, PAC 12 late game that come on at that time. The only SWAC games that are not tape delayed are the Thursday Night games.
