A&M played at TxSU

& TxSU y’all have the most pathetic fan base in the SWAC. Every week y’all put up numbers that any high school in GA would beat attendance wise.

And also may have the largest student population in the SWAC (close to 10K). Perhaps when they build their on campus stadium it will change. However, I believe sTu still have by far the largest commuter population in the conference.

Oh shut your trap. We also have a pathetic football team. If the team was above average or in contention for a championship than I would encourage complaints about attendance.

Homecoming, PV, and the game in Dallas will do well though for us attendance wise. Everything else, you won't see us pass 3K so get use to it. Maybe next year we will have a stronger and more exciting team

Your game against Prairie View is at Prairie View, not the other way around and the game against Su is their home game.

Not making excuses but the above in bold is maybe true. When I go to the campus for meetings or basketball games it is amazing how many folks are leaving campus at the end of their day. Having said that, those in the dorms/near campus apartments should be at the games. PERIOD.

P.S. The seats in the Presidents Club are grey :)

Herb, college students not attending athletic eventis is the current trend. See Alabama. They are finding or doing other things. What do we do to bring them back to the game. That’s our challenge. I met a fellow Hornet alum at the game in Lorman yesterday. She drove over to the game because her son goes to school at Alcorn. I asked her where was he and she replied he was in the dorm sleeping. He didn’t like football. Hmmm it was their homecoming.

But Alcorn still had 20,000 for their homecoming which is a good number, so how can you use them as a bad example?

Alabama problem isnt the students arent coming.... its that the students are leaving early... when the game is a blowout at the half... do we really blame them?

I've been saying that's the root cause for a while but get attacked. Tsu is a commuter school. UH is too. Both have done better at establishing some sort of campus life in recent years but alot of students arent going to be engaged. Also with TSU's total enrollment, a big chunk of that number comes from students in the graduate/professional programs whose loyalties are going to almost always be with their undergraduate institution first.

In Jackson, the Students stay till the end regardless of the result. So keep that in Alabama

No where do I use Alcorn as an example. I used one of their student as an example of a growing trend among college students which can be supported with published data if you care to look.

Well also keep in mind that our school is in the middle of a cool and dynamic major city. A higher portion of our students have jobs (part time jobs are easy to find in Houston) or out exploring the 1,000s of things to do nearby (concerts, shopping, clubs, bars, restaurants, festials, etc)

Students in Jackson, Baton Rouge, Pine Bluff, and even Prairie View etc don't have the same luxuries and distractions as TSU students. So campus life for TSU students is not the center of their universe like it is as our peer institutions, but I still will like to see them make more of an effort to support our teams. On a positive note, I do feel like the new dorm completed in 2016 did help with campus life ... I notice more students on campus since it was completed.

And I think it's a Houston problem looking at UH. Most of their students don't support them either. UH student body is over 40,000 and alumni base over 200,000 but only close to 30K (40K capacity) showed up to the Tulsa game yesterday and I'm sure most were alumni. And UH has a 4-1 record.

So with that said why even attempt to build an on campus stadium if you think the students are too distracted to go to games anyway?

You don't get it. Stadiums are not built for students (who get into games for free due to game admission built into fees they pay per semester) it's for the ticket paying fans.

Furthermore, we will not be building an on campus stadium. If the referendum passes next month we will be enhancing Durley Field.

Enhancing = $3M - $5M
Building = $40M - $60M

Isn't the referendum for reallocation of money anyway?
So there is no new funds coming in from student fees.

I know but I was just addressing tsugraytiger's comments. Students make up a small percentage of those who go to the games. That's why I STILL don't understand why a student referendum would have much impact on "enhancing" Durley. Alums ain't going to games either though.

If a team's not winning on a consistent basis, students or non-students will stop coming. There's no need for rocket science or theories.
