Good "band camp" sound! I mean, tubas and trumpets need work, but it is just camp. Kudos Boom!

SIDE NOTE: Can we start counting male-stripper-esque, homo-erotic DM routines "gninooc"? (<----Read backwards)

Yes, we can. We can add a number of adjectives to the list:
  • assinine
  • pointless
  • dumb
  • stupid
  • disgraceful

I have said this for 30 years and I am going to keep on saying it:
If you want to have a male dance team, then declare a male dance team. If you want to have DM's, quit the idiotic dancing and let the DM's do their job.
 
thats not the whole band...think that just returning upperclassmen..clearly..some just coming back rust....

Now, as far as that Get Ready routine... I say it is one of the great HBCU marching band traditions. Tasteful, energetic and flashy.

...True I dont think Futuristic Love is a song you do side flashes too....but JSU dmjs been dancing in the stands like that since I was born...It has cut down alot since 2000...(which I was kool with) but the reason JSU Dmj's dance in the stands has never been for the pure entertainment for it...IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR THE FEMALES WATCHING.....:lol: ladies use to go crazy and they still do....

I agree with Dacon.. all that dancing is country and dumb as hell....
Maybe that how I was raised in New Orleans on band....

For all that, jsu should never really critique gsu for all of their dancing.. Atleast their dancing ain't as cheesy...

Im not speaking on the clip... I'm speaking on his philosophy and standards...
It is of a much higher level than what been over there for a good while..
 



JSU's DM have always danced it's practice.. But why is the all male, white boy ,big girls dancing band making comments...While us regular dudes , say it hetero guys are looking at the J settes you guys worried about dancing drum majors...It never fails as a Jag will always show his true colors..SMDH

I couldn't be the BD at JSU. The change would be too radical.
  • Return of the Sivad sound signature.
  • Max drill rehearsals of 6 hrs/week. You will not need weight or cardio training on those days.
  • Play nothing that is only a hook. That's just not musical.
  • No playing of Get Ready in a halftime show.
  • No more than 2 DMs, whose job will be to CONDUCT the band in rehearsal, on the field, and in the stands.
  • No drills repeated at JSU home games in a given year. One repeat at most.
  • No squad dancing. The whole band at the same time and it has to be as good as the Jaycettes or we ain't dancing at all.
  • No trumpets "taking it up" unless you can nail the attack, sustain the pitch, and cleanly release. None of that "kissing off" notes.
  • Sectional concerts in the stadium prior to home games.

Most of all, reserved seating for mustardmanSU_04 and SUtrp96, where they will pay 4x the going rate and be required to sing "Cheer, Boys, for Jackson". :)

i didnt watch the clip bc i want to see them for the first time coming thru the gates. i dont like watching clips before the first game; i want to be surprised. But im ready to hear that Get Ready kranking though

I don't see the things you say you would change as radical. Most people don't even notice that stuff. All we would ask is that your band is on point! If you can accomplish that, u will be fine.

I do think your drills would be sorry and basic however like that of a MEAC band. :lecture: The only thing you would catch hell about would be changing the DM style. You can still have the HDM doing the things you want them to do. But for the football fans, as long as they know that they are there to support to team and ignore that sorry band across from them, u will be straight!
 
..Oh and you got to play Get Ready at Halftime...at least for some of the big games. It does not have to be a drill tune...but it needs to be played from time to time....2 to 3 times a year. Some people come to Homecoming once every 5 to 10 years...they need to hear GR and see that floating JSU. :nod: I recall a long time ago, we only did the Tiger Run and Get Reday drill for the big games...like Homecoming and vs Alcorn.

How in the bkue hell are they going to play "Get Ready" at half time if it's not played in a drill... ....wth?!?! Just stand their and play Get ready right?

Tp... quit acting like you know band....

and Dacon knows way more about JSU band than you dude...
