My Picks.

Class 5A
Destrehan (12-0) at St. Paul (10-2)
Dutchtown (8-4) at Westgate (7-5)
Acadiana (9-3) vs. Archbishop Rummel (10-2)
John Ehret (8-3) at Mandeville (10-2)

St. Paul's and Mandeville come out of the Northshore 5A district, which sucked as a whole. Mandeville beat St. Thomas More in Mandeville.

I like Destrehan, Westgate, Acadiana (defending champs) and Mandeville

Class 4A
Archbishop Shaw (12-0) vs. Eunice (11-1)
Holy Cross (10-2) vs. O.P. Walker (8-4)
Vandebilt Catholic (11-1) vs. Benton (10-2)
Bastrop (12-0) at Franklinton (12-0)

Bastrop vs. Franklinton is the marquee matchup in this round.
I'm taking Shaw, OP Walker, Benton and Bastrop

Class 3A
Amite (10-2) at Parkview Baptist (12-0)
Lutcher (10-1) at Redemptorist (11-1)
E.D. White (8-4) at Westlake (12-0)
St. Louis (7-5) at Patterson (9-3)

Parkview and Redemptorist finished 1-2 in 8-3A, while Patterson and ED White finsihed 1-2 in 7-3A.

Parkview vs. Amite is interesting because of two reasons: 1. The schools scrimmage each other every year and there will be no secrets and 2. Parkivew has been giving up too many big plays (something Amite offensively is good for now)

I'm taking Amite, Lutcher, Westlake and Patterson.

Class 2A
St. John (10-2) at John Curtis (9-2)
Newman (10-2) at Evangel Christian (9-2)
Clinton (11-1) at Calvary Baptist (11-0)
Donaldsonville (11-1) at St. James (10-2)

2A's Big Four ? Curtis, Evangel, Calvary and St. James ? have run roughshod over the rest of the state this year. However, out of teh four, I think Curtis could the be one ripest for an upset. St. John-Plaquemine is good and I've seen them in person, and they are fully capable.

However, the key to beating any of the big four is not talent, it's execution and playing mistake-free.

BTW: I think St. James is the best out of the four.

So I'm taking Curtis, Evangel, Calvary Baptist (the Bootys) and St. James

Class 1A
Cedar Creek (12-0) at Ouachita Christian (10-2)
Kentwood (9-3) at West St. John (7-5)
St. Edmund (10-2) at South Plaquemines (10-2)
Oak Grove (10-2) at Desire Street Academy (6-5)

Cedar Creek, the No. 1 seed, had to score 60 points just to beat White Castle by 10 points last week. CC beat Ouachita Christian 27-21 or something like that in district play.
Kentwood at WSJ features two 200-win coaches ? Kentwood's David Currier and WSJ's Larry Dupont. This game should be fun.

I don't see anyone beating South Plaquemines except Desire Street, Kentwood and WSJ...

Desire Street is only the 23 seed because they forgot not to play an ineligible player in two games in district play. They were ranked in the LSWA's top 10 most of the year.

I'm taking Ouachita Christian, Kentwood, South Plaquemines and Desire Street

Who is that and who he plays for.

Amite. When we played Tn State, on Sportsline Friday Night they had showed Pete in Memorial Stadium looking at him and they said thats who he was looking at it.

Sibley ran for 131 yards and 3 TDs last week for Amite and has more than 1,300 rushing yards this season. That was before the playoff game against Marksville. I don't know how many yards he had in that game.

Steve Sibley started for three years at Amite. He came in in 2005, the season after Amite won 3A. He's extra, extra niiiiice. Plus...he can return punts and kickoffs...lol..

QB Brandon Mitchell (an LSU basketball committ) is a better quarterback than a basketball player. Damn that Butch Pierre and his silver tongue!!! Mitchell's 6-4, 210-215..can make all the throws and mobile. Plus, he's not a basket case.

He looked big on Sportsline about 200 but he's only 175-185.

Calvery on Clinton.

http://www.rodscalvarywebsite.com/content.asp?CID=103077

For the first time since I was in middle school:), I wont be in N.O. the Friday night of the Bayou Classic :upset:. I have to go SUpport my cousin as the Clinton Eagles take on Calvery Baptist in Shreveport :retard:. I will be in the NO bright and early Saturday morning though.

I think this is the best shot at one of the 2A big four to get beat. Calvary's more a finesse team in terms of style than Evangel (who I saw last year) and definetly not as physical as St. james and Curtis...

Their style of play will fit right into Clinton's hands. However, Clinton has to play MISTAKE-FREE football. I know that's a cliche, but from my experience covering preps...that's the cold, hard truth when playing teams like Calvary and Curtis and Evangel. (BTW: Former NFL Backup QB Doug Pederson is Calvary's head coach)

who mitchell? according to Amite High roster, and from standing next to dude..he's every bit of 6-3 (my height) but he may have an inch...his weight is in that 210-215.

Sibley's 5-11, 205, according to AHS.

Now Kentwood's Alfred Franklin is 6-3, 180/190. He'll probably be first-team All-State at safety again. His brother, Carlese, was named first-team all Southland Conference WR at McNeese.

If Clinton can play with Scotlandville, they can play with anybody. Don't know if you saw them play, I don't understand how they lost games. They probably have 8-9 D-1 players.

BTW: Clinton better rest Prentiss and have him ready to play defense. Calvary will sling it with Jake Booty and Khiry Cooper.

I don't put too much faith in rivals or scout.com...I got by what I've seen on tape and what coaches talk about. Talk to Michael Roach about Cooper, Booty and the Calvary offense.

Hell, Desire Street's alleged top-flight WR only had one catch for six yards against Kentwood and Kentwood dominated Desire Street. I watched the Taylor boys for years at Franklinton (good baseball players ), the D-lineman from E.D. White (he didn't impress me against Independence last year), the O-lineman from Parkview (that's where Southern need to go and do some holleration at -- Parkview's O-line is great to watch).

I guess the main reason I'm picking St. James to win 2A is (1) they beat Curtis and (2) i never seen anyone run the Wing-T like they do and dominate Kentwood with it like they did for one half.

I'm just saying the Waggner-Cooper matchup is the marquee matchup, however, teams like Calvary and Evangel (which was founded by the Bootys and STILL carry some of those traits) will be all about execution. Don't be surprised if they spread it out on offense, run the play clock all the way down and hit some quick hitches or square ins...They will more than likely use the spread offense and short passing game to do some ball control. It's what Evangel did with Kentwood in the semis last year and what I fully expect Calvary to do with Clinton this year.

If Prentiss can check Joe McNight in single coverage with no saftey help, I know damn well he can check that Cooper kid.

Clinton?s Prentiss Waggner gets past Southern Lab?s Michael Collins and Carlton Black to score in a game earlier this season.

The minute Clinton football coach Robert Signater slipped in a tape of today?s opponent ? Calvary Baptist ? the noise level quickly rose from audible to a constant buzz in the team?s locker room.

Initially, Signater was uncertain why life had suddenly been pumped into the team?s film review of Calvary until he listened closely. The Cavaliers? home field is one of a few on-campus stadiums in the state that has synthetic turf ? a fact that immediately jumped off the screen and caught the attention of a very athletic Eagles team.

?It?s nice when you look at it on film,? Signater said. ?But I had to tell them it?s just a game and get away from all the hoopla. They seemed a little more focused later in the week. I had to remind them this could be a tune-up for the big one. The Superdome.?

For Clinton to play on the turf floor of the Superdome the sixth-seeded Eagles (11-1) must negotiate the artificial surface at Jerry Barker Stadium, where third-seeded Calvary Baptist (11-0) of Shreveport will host today?s Class 2A state quarterfinal game.

?We?re going to try and make it the fastest show on turf,? Signater said. ?It (turf) should be a plus for us.?

Lets GEAUX CLINTON EAGLES. Pulling out @ 12:00 heading to Shreveport . Can't believe im missing Friday night @ the Bayou Classic :bawling:.

I can not remember the last time Donaldsonville beat them(St. James).

The last time Donaldsonville beat St. James was in the year 2000... I think its gonna be a really good game "down the river." This is a long await game the two haven't played each other in a few years!!

Good Luck Tigers!!

They actually played twice last year.

Clinton lost 24-21, well Clinton didn't lose their coach, Signater, lost the game.:angry::angry::angry: Clinton had the ball 1st and 10 on Calvary's 14 yard line with 1:00 to go and lost. Signater is a good coach but in crucial situations he freezes up.

Sometimes it isn't easy ? and it wasn't easy for Calvary Baptist on Friday night at Jerry Barker Stadium.

Thanks to a precision fourth-quarter drive led by quarterback Jake Booty, the Cavaliers remained undefeated and came from behind for a thrilling 24-21 Class 2A quarterfinal victory over stubborn Clinton.

Calvary (12-0) advances to the semifinals at St. James, a winner over Donaldsonville.Clinton finished its spectacular season at 11-2.

Booty, the 5-foot-10 signal caller, stood tall when it counted. He directed the game-winning 51-yard drive on 11 plays to give his team the lead with 4:45 left on the clock.

"We just couldn't get it in the end zone," Booty said of the tough Eagles' defense, which held Calvary to its lowest point total of the season. "But we talked at halftime, the whole offense. We refused to lose."

Oh by the way Prentiss completly shut down Cooper Journalist. I think he caught 2 or 3 passes, when Clinton went to a soft zone. When Prentiss had him man to man, he got nothing. Prentiss had no saftey help over the top and completly took Cooper away. He did get 2 PI's on Prentiss, but they didn't lead to anything. Prentiss is going to be a great cover corner. He didn't fall for those double moves that Joe McNight got him with last season. On the offensive side, Calvary tripled team Prentiss, and Signater couldn't find a way to get him the ball . Prentiss didn't have a single catch the entire game, because they never threw to him . Clinton by far was the better team, but Signater got out coached at the end of the game. First they allowed Calvery to convert several 3rd and 4th and long, on their final scoring drive with the same play. They killed Clinton with out's at the end and coach never made a adjustment. Calvery's offense without Cooper, because Prentiss completly took him away, is very average. Clinton was killing Calvery when they went 4 wides, because they couldn't match up with Clinton's athletes, but for some reason on those final 4 plays Signater wants to go under center , in the proset. Signater lost his composure at the end and it cost Clinton.

dude..wasn't clinton up for a spell this game??/ I was tryin to follow it on Ramsey......

and I know you read what I said late in the game they were prolly gone spread otu and throw quick hitches, outs and square ins...

I'm not surprised Calvary tripled Prentiss...that's where having a former NFL QB as a head coaches comes into play -- preparation and scouting. That's the difference between Calvary and other 2As...Oh Well...I still see them getting blasted by Curtis/St. James
