I know all SWAC is always controversial, and I know there are always some bubble picks. And I can live with Richard being 1st team all SWAC and Offensive player of the year. The kid had an excellent season.....

But Bruce Eugene doesn't make All SWAC? Over Carrie at Alcorn? Are you kidding me? The man is a finalist for the Walter Payton award, the 1-AA Heisman, yet he can't even make ALL SWAC. This is more than just school pride, this is an outright travesty.

And Where is Mose Harris at WR, at least 2nd team. He is 3rd in the SWAC in receiving, and he can't make ALL SWAC either?

And Pettway at LB can't make it? This pick can be argued, but the previous two, there is no argument!

I agree...

I just wonder if Bruce Eugene would've been the Offensive Player of the Year, had Grambling beat Southern......:(

Prolly..

After I saw that Richard was 1st team QB, I didn't bother to look at the 2nd team QB, because that was definitely a no brainer. Then I read Suge's post. WOW!!!

What I wanna know is, what the hell is a JSU DB doing on the 2nd team???

Nothing against Richard...you could live with that pick. I would have picked Bruce, but Richard's efficiency rating has to be considered. Since these votes are opinion of the coaches, I wonder if during their game planning, which of the three qb's did they focus on stopping.

I agree with Suge on the other selections...I also think Leonard Patten should be first team defensive line. Mose Harris & Pettway are at least second team caliber. Octavious Bond should be replaced by Seneca Lee. I was glad to see Tyrone Parson make it...I think he's an excellent cover corner.

Anthony Johnson was robbed also. Unbelievable.

Whoa! I hadn't checked out the kickers...but I will be honest. I didn't expect Brian Morgan to be 1st or 2nd team. Did he lead in any category? Don't get me wrong, but I glad for the Gman!

My picks vs. the actual team:

KICKERS (a travesty)
1st team
Morgan, GSU 51/54 PAT 12/21 FG 87 Pts
Johnson, ALST 53/56 PAT 12/14 FG 89 Pts

2nd team
Cylar, AAMU 34/37 PAT 13/21 FG 73 Pts
Ackley, SU 58/64 PAT 8/11 FG 82 Pts

PUNTERS (not as bad)
1st team
Hernandez, PVAM 38.42 avg 4 blocked 28.18 net
Phillips, ALC 37.85 avg 2 blocked 33.10 net

2nd team
Phillips
Bothwell, ALST 37.37 avg 0 blocked 32.50 net

Voters damm near always just go with the highest average for punters. There's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

As for kickers, I don't know what the hell they were thinking. I'm not p!ssed about my boy because he didn't have all that many attempts, but Morgan and Cylar over Johnson? smh

There is some big time disdain for Grambling in the SWAC. Bruce had a better year in '03. His passing yds are down, but passing for 4500 yds/yr is not realistic as teams know what is coming.

Bruce completed over 50% of his passes (better than last year), and his TD/Int ratio is above every QB in the SWAC despite more attempts (also has the fewest ints). The SWAC should be embarrassed. Equally as embarrassed as the snub on the UAPB kid (OL) that got drafted last year, and did not make the All SWAC team.

I am LMAO at the All-SWAC team. Pure, B.S., but I can not argue with Quincy Richard. His team is going to the championship game.

Pneck,

If SU wouldn't have won the BC your boy would have gotten run out of Baton Rouge faster than Jacoby! Dude missed all those field goals in the first half. That's what probably dropped his stock down.

If yall can be mad about that. I think I have a case for why Kevin Lockhart, Fernandez Shaw, and Jerald Harris didn't make first or second team DL. Kevin Lockhart is number 3 in sacks with all the others right behind him.

But, since this isn't the first time we've seen the SWAC do stupid isht. Why should I even expect any better. Bruce Eugene got hosed and I can't believe that they could even put this isht out there like it's all good!

:shame:

Cyler should have gotten 1st team punter in my opinion. He was reliable and you could make a good arguement for place kicker so I'm not mad about that. A lot of his missed FG was the result of bad snaps.

What does piss me off is the fact that only one (1) AAMU D-lineman made All-SWAC. And Bruce not getting an award is a farce.

Travesty

Marcus Winn of Bama State not making the team is a disgrace. Dude is one of the better athlete in the conference and has a chance of playing at the next level.

Some of the selections for the all-SWAC teams are absolute travesties. How can Bruce Eugene be a finalist for the Payton Award and not make the all-SWAC teams? How can Anthony Johnson, K-AlaSt not make either 1st or 2nd team when he lead the league in PAT and FG accuracy and points? How can Marcus Winn, LB-AlaSt be selected to play in the Blue/Gray game and not make all-SWAC? How can David Kennebrew, RB- Jackson State make 2nd team all-SWAC and not make the top 10 leaders in rushing yards?

Amazing! This says a lot about the people leading our teams!

Preach. I was thinking the exact same thing. Carrie over Bruce.. Give me a break. Bruce will win the Walter Payton award and doesn't get mentioned in his own conference.

Mike,

Technically, he "missed" 1 extra point (may or may not have been his fault) and had one extra point blocked (probably not his fault).

He made his only FG attempt. ;)

W hat makes me smh is the fact that the team that lead the SWAC (probably the nation) in total offense only had one guy make 1st team and only two (offensive linemen) make 2nd team. I wonder who they think was putting up those numbers. Yeah Bruce got hosed, but so did Mose Harris at wide receiver. I really expected the first team "other" receiver to be either SU's Davis or JSU's Manning with Mose Harris being the other guy on second team.

It's hard to say with the defensive backs because most of the guys in the league got torched at one time or another. But I thought all season that Seneca Lee was one of the top performers in the league.

Leaving Eugene off is RIDICULOUS. His numbers are undeniable.

Some media coverage of the selections ...

That's str8 up foul!!!

Carrie over Bruce?

you had 3 schools where there was no head coach present to vote.....remember that

as for the QB.....if Richard got 10 votes and Carrie got 9, then that's how the 1st and second team is judged. Carrie did play better with less as aopposed to Bruce

a lot of voters are voting off the stats provided and some people did not see every team. As for offensive linemen, it's hard to pick.

I totall agree with the Eugene fiasco.... It's ridiculos to leave him out. If I recall, the same think happened to a SU QB a few years ago after having a helluva year.. Levy I believe.

Maybe the SWAC needs to require that the voting results be made public. I know this is done for the Heismann and some other post season awards. I would love to see how some of the guys are voting

You know I was actually prepared for Richard to be 2nd team All SWAC. But to see Eugene not on there at all is just not acceptable. Doug needs to go off on the SWAC office for their stupidity. Also the Pettway kid from GSU should be All-SWAC 1st team.

I agree with Robber, how can a JSU db be on there especially befoe Erin Damnond or even the kid from TxSU.:redhot:
