Two UAPB alums will make history on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 1).
Carolina Panthers cornerback Dante Wesley and New England safety Chris Akins will be trying to be only the second player in UAPB history to win a Super Bowl. It is the first time in school history that two former players will compete on opposite teams in the Super Bowl.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end L.C. Greenwood, a 1969 Arkansas AM&N graduate, has four Super Bowl rings to his credit, thanks to his time as a member of the 'Steel Curtain.'
As if a Super Bowl win alone wouldn't be sweet enough, I know both of these guys would love to be mentioned in the same breath with Greenwood.
Although they didn't play together at UAPB, the two are more than familiar with each other. Wesley, a Watson Chapel alum, and Akins, a Little Rock Hall alum, both began their collegiate careers at Arkansas, before transferring to UAPB.
