19-year-old LeBron James becomes a dad

CLEVELAND (AP) - LeBron James had a good reason for missing practice Wednesday. He became a father.

The Cavaliers star guard and his longtime girlfriend, a 19-year-old Akron woman, had a baby boy Wednesday. No other details were available.

James left the team's training camp in Columbus to be with her and his new son. He was expected to rejoin the team Thursday as he prepares for his second NBA season

Okafor says he'll 'dunk on Shaq'

Okafor says he'll 'dunk on Shaq'

Emeka Okafor quickly is learning the dos and don'ts of being an NBA rookie.

Rule No. 1: Don't promise to dunk on Shaquille O'Neal.

Okafor made that mistake last week at a news conference with 300 schoolchildren to promote a preseason game between his expansion Charlotte Bobcats and O'Neal's Miami Heat. Getting little reaction from the crowd, he tried to excite the kids.

"Come on!" he yelled. "Don't you guys want to see me dunk on Shaq?"

Charlotte management, aware of the TV crews in attendance, immediately cringed. In the days since then, the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft has taken a ton of ribbing about it.

"Will I dunk on Shaq? The likelihood of that happening is very small," he said. "You've got to put in perspective where I said that."

Bryant declares Lakers are his team

Bryant declares Lakers are his team

Kobe Bryant is a free man - and the Los Angeles Lakers are his team. Shaquille O'Neal, Derek Fisher, Gary Payton and Karl Malone are gone, leaving Bryant as Showtime's lone superstar.

New era for Lakers begins
Kobe Bryant talks Shaq, fishing and his role as leader of the Lakers.

"This is my team to lead," Bryant said Monday, a day before the Lakers open training camp in San Diego. "Shaq was the focal point of the team. Now it's different. Guys are looking to me for leadership, so it's important that I establish what type of team we're going to be."
Bryant got a jump on that by phoning each of his teammates, a group including nine new players, during the summer. Most of the team has been working out together informally for the last few weeks.

Payton shows on time to Celtics training camp

Payton shows on time to Celtics training camp

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) - Gary Payton is running the show again after playing a supporting role in the Shaq and Kobe drama in Hollywood.

Any doubts that family concerns would keep the aggressive point guard from reporting to the Celtics vanished Monday when he showed up at training camp to prepare to lead Boston's new up-tempo game and teach his young teammates how to lead the offense.

Gary Payton showed up to Celtics training camp without any of the resentment he held during the off-season.

"I know I'm going to have to take a couple of them under my wing to try to make them better basketball players," Payton said. "Hopefully, they can catch on really quick and we can get wins."

Some deals are hard to swallow

Some deals are hard to swallow

Just like that, NBA training camp is under way. If you're a typical NBA fan, you're probably wondering why, exactly, your team was unable to scrape up anything more than bottom-dwelling free agents whose careers are so depleted that to say they are on the fritz is an offense to Fritzes the world over. The Hornets' big acquisition was Rodney Rogers? The Blazers wanted Nick Van Exel? The Kings' main addition was Greg "Egads" Ostertag?

The reason for the bargain-basement spending is the league's $43.9 million salary cap, which keeps most teams handcuffed during the offseason. Teams over the cap are limited to using cap exceptions and whatever creative trade proposals they can dream up.

Hey man, thats not funny. Evil Kneival. I know they bought out his contract last season. Training camp has started and all they have been talking about is Eddy Curry weighing 281, Ben Gordon hangin' out at Jordan's crib, and Pippen's retirement. But no mention of Jay Williams. That stud was caught on tape on a motorcycle a few weeks prior to his accident saying he's not suppose to be ridin' a bike. :smh:

It seems like there?s a lot of pregnant and post pregnant women, with live in ?boyfriends? these days. I wonder why?
