I have been here since late 98 or early 99. My roommate from school MasterRattler told me about the site. He sat in a section at Bragg with Cholly who were posting here before Meacfans came into being. The long tenure of folks on these boards makes it hard to attract new/younger people. Many of the convos are hard to follow if you dont know 1. history between the schools in real world 2. relationships between the schools in the virtual world 3.individual personalities and what has gone down with people. The first few posts or page of a thread may actually discuss that topic at hand. After that, folks are pulling in stuff from back in the day. It is like trying to watch Young and the Restless without the backdrop.

The site could've superceded <b>facebook :read: and youtube :read: </b> if the mass exodus of bandsmen/bandswomen hadn't occurred, IMO. :read: There were no other band pages available and youtube was yet going through a transition, but was very, very small (from a hits per hr perspective :read: ). That whole ordeal was handled irrationally, IMO.

When the <b>original</b> bandboard died, so did the notariety of the former <b><i>SwacPage</i></b>. Just look @ ALL that was spawned off of it. How many sites were created/spawned due to the old <b><i>SWAC Page</i></b>? :read: Think about all those #s (folk) being on one physical url. :read: How many folk have graduated undergrad/HS over the last 12+ years? :read: How many HBCUs could've had their very own alumni sites spawned from former SWAC Page? I can speak on this shit for days as I've watched it evolve and although I've evolved w/ the backgrnd technology supporting all this type of stuff, I show no desire to challenge lawyers who have my signed intellectual agreement lol.

I signed up the week of the PV/SU band fight (1998).. the swacpage was before the 5th quarter.... before the 5th quarter everybody took over the Sonic Boom guestbook on their website. It got so bad over there the webmaster shut the site down.... then everybody went to "Can Your Band Hang"....then the5thquarter came later in 98 or early 99.

U can draw a nice flow-diagram of what spawned because of <i>SWACPage</i>. :read: It's an amazing thing to witness.

If it hadn't been for the original band board on former SWACPage, I wouldn've known jack-squat about too many other bands because no one was traveling to PV during that time. I certainly enjoyed the reading material, even smack laced, because I'd always known that bandsmen/bandswomen thought w/ a different part of their brain (musically talented) than we "normal" folk and because of this and their abstract natures, they were to be envied by most of us in the engr paradigm. lol Let me stop. lol

For a while, this was Y&R. :lol:

But I can agree with what you are saying. We have a pretty close knit "family" now and outsiders/newbies may not feel welcomed. One other this is that back in the day, the MEAC folks only had TSPN so that made it fun. Then when they got their own boards, going over there and smacking them was fun. How many times did we crash that board? :lol:

But I must say that we still have the best overall board. The new MEAC fans site is okay but just like ours, it does not draw new members. I think the advent of facebook, etc...makes something like this less appealing unless you are just hard core.

Panthro... I think we forget about Onnidan. The first sites I recall were Onnidan and CNNSI. I'm not sure if Onnidan always had a message board tho.

The MEAC folks weren't ANY match. They used to get smacked around over here and when meacfans started, us swac folks used to go over there and destroy them. :lol::lol:
but I wouldn't be telling the truth if I didn't post that ONE time that they smacked the hell outta us after the swacpage had crashed with that Death of the swacpage thread. Sorry, but that was one of the all time best ever. :lmao::lmao:

hell im new to the board and even i know that. i've been lurking on these sites since i was in undergrad. this, swacfans, the5thquarter all of them. i just signed up just for the hell of it and jumped in the convo. its a cool site and people say its just the internet but to me its real life. some do well in social settings, some dont. some are quick to catch feelings, so are lames. that sounds like real life to me

Yeh, that was something. But them skanky muthafuggas who were in control @ that time took some $$$$ from me (20$) for a "MF.com" hat and REFUSED to send it to me for 3 fvcking years. I'd paid for a white "MF.com" shirt w/ the green stripe across the middle w/ "MF.COM" written through it and was sent that but soon after, I ordered a hat and THAT was during that deal where those guys got pissedola for SWACPage bet welching or something or another and took it out on me, like I had something to do w/ that stupid shit. It wasn't the money that had me riled up, it was the principle of the deal. Shit, I was then 15*,***$ per year lol so I could've cared the hell less about the funky 20$ but it was the idea that someone was daring me to retaliate from over a long distance. I was <b><u>ready</u></b> to hop a flight to get my hat or do whatever however. My x-wife will verify/validate how she talked me down after I told her what I was about to do - I had one-way ticket in hand when I told her what I was gonna' do. :| And IMMEDIATELY after they, whomever "they" are, eventually sent the funky brown hat (3yrs later), I was riding a newly purchased motorcycle over a lake w/ no helmet and had the hat on turned backwards. I think I got up to only 80 or so mph and the damned thing just interestingly flew off and went off the side of the bridge into Lake Lewisville. Sweet retribution I guess and I said aloud "that's where the muthafukka' and the dumbfvck who stole my money belong, in the lake, drown bitch!" :emlaugh: God don't like ugly obviously so as I was about to shortly exit the frwy, a rock flew up from the roadway from out of nowhere and hit me in the right eye. I stopped heeing and hawing about the deal @ the crib afterwards because baby TD Jakes was preaching a sermon to me on how God don't like ugly no matter who you are and what you have as I went to the ER for the hit eye.

I stopped going over there for a few and every time I did, I'd bring it up and if mem serves correct, it was 2 dudes who "claimed" they didn't know what I was talking about. :emlaugh: I then understood why they wanted money orders only. :emlaugh: I should've filed in small claims court and made them waste $$$ on flt/hotel/car rental to show cause if not proceed to settle out of court lol rather than constantly nagging and whining about the deal. I remember the Heritage Bowl bet I made with RTD over at MEACFans. I think Hampton beat SU that year. The bet was that the losing site had to use the logos of the winning site for an entire week. Turns out that the entire network of the web hosting company this site was affiliated with at the time when down (the day after the game) and stayed down for like 2 weeks. RTD and the rest over at MEAC Fans where pissed. They thought I welched on the bet. And I swear that was not the case.

I was the one who issued the bet. I was telling my partner Jeff (at the time) that losing the bet wouldn't be a bad thing at all. It would have been a great PR stunt that would have resulted in more traffic for this site. Needless to say, I was pissed too. Hell, I wanted to honor that bet. :lol:
