SWAC Announces New Basketball Tournaments Format Beginning in 2027

ladder format - similar to the sun belt - if a team wins 5 straight, they deserve to go lol

but there has to be some incentive for the regular season since NIT is no more

Stacking the deck and punishing everyone else is not the answer

again - being the top seed is pretty much meaningless now - why play a regular season and bust your butt for the same benefit as a bottom seed? If that was the case, might as well rest your guys until midway to get tournament ready

at least now there's a benefit to winning - hope this applies to all sports

I completely understand the logic for doing this. As TBF indicated, there has to be some kind of reward/incentive for finishing 1st or 2nd during the regular season. However, because we know how things go during tournament time, if I'm a coach, I'd have no problem finishing 3rd or 4th and getting the 3rd or 4th seed. Having a game under my belt before facing the 1st or 2nd seed would be just fine for me.

After seeing that tournament championships dont affect commish cup points…. Which one is really more valuable… Regular season champion or tournament champion?

To the school, it would be the SWAC tournament championship because that means a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

How is it meaningless this year as the top seeds got a bye to the quarter finals while other schools had to play in the 1st and/or 2nd round to get to the quarter finals.
