Black athletes should boycott the SEC?

Y'all already know my opinion on this subject but all I will say is look how black people joked and talked about Travis Hunter for giving up Florida State to play at JSU! This mentality of Gold from massa will never leave our community. I have an associate that sacrificed and put his daughter in nothing but expensive private schools and all these programs with nothing but white people and Asians. Well he was grinning ear to ear about her going to Georgia Tech. Well when she graduated and got her a good corporate job he told her "well now we got two engineering grads in the family". She told him in front of their family and friends that "well actually we only have one. Sorry but that DEI paper you were given from Tuskegee isn't a real degree. So we got a real one from Georgia Tech and a highschool trade". He was hurt. Personally I would have dropped kicked that lil itch and took that ride to Fulton County smiling, but my point is this is how black people from the upper to lower class raise their kids today. No respect for nothing black and to chase white gold!
If "experts" were to list the best five to 10 football players from Jackson State, those players would rival what any school, large or small, would have produced.

A part of me would have wanted to drop kick her too. Many of us need lessons from Dr. Carter G. Woodson, el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X), John Henrike Clarke (Malcolm X's advisor) and Dr. Joy de Gruy, whom we have mentioned on this message board.

Let's be real honest here, white folks never hid, not even for one minute, there disdain for Civil Rights Legislation in theory, belief and practice. Armed with that knowledge, the CBC should have always been clear about their collective mission.
And also let's be honest that black athletes post Civil Rights (and even during the movement) desired to enroll at and compete at these same schools that did not want to have much to do with black folks beyond sports. So, let's not (completely) blame the CBC or NAACP or even Black parents when we have always wanted to some degree to prove to them that we could live, work and play alongside them.

Nope, I put this current failure at the feet of the CBC, all sixty-two members of that body.

Please explain to me how black athletes and the NAACP could have enhanced, strengthened and protected Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act without having seats in congress?

Have some you forgot the whole basis for asking the athletes to boycott the SEC, which I disagree with, is because the high court further eroded the Voting Rights Act, subsequently leading to swift gerrymandering out of black congressional districts in the south?

I was hoping someone else would point this out by now and say it. No one has so I will, the plain truth is the Congressional Black Caucus, CBC, has failed us. All sixty-two, 62, members should be ashamed of themselves.

The CBC is just like the NAACP. Utterly useless

They do not fight for black people and black issues period. They are the only voting block in DC that does this and is basically a DC social club (just like the Democrats)

This could have been codified in 2008 and 2020 when they controlled all 3 branches but they chose not to

People are now seeing how worthless they are

Exactly, twice, while they had strength in numbers the opportunity presented itself and could have been done.

They can't creditably claim it was not on their radar because John Lewis was attempting to enhance the Voting Rights Act prior to his death in 2020. Once Biden transitioned to power in 2021 they had control of the levers needed to get it done and didn't. That is failure, damn near neglect.

I hope people are waking up, but I have doubts. There will be no accountability. Most of them that were in primaries won it or were unchallenged. Besides, black folks are not collectively paying attention to what goes on in D.C. anymore than other groups are.

I remember Bubba Smith whining about Texas not wanting him because he was Black. That is why he ended up at Michigan State. Rather than go to an HBCU he went up north in the snow.

That right there is part of the problem, with some people's mind set. Once it was made clear that Texas did not want him because he was Black, his attitude and mind set should of changed toward Texas.

My brother told me a story about how my parents tried to enrolled us into a private Christian school less than 4 minutes from our house. At the time they rejected us because we where Black (this was in the 1980s). Years later that same school came to our house asking for money and looking to enroll new students, my Dad slammed the door right in their face.

The CBC and NAACP can't claim ignorance of the fact racial gerrymandering was part of the GOP playbook and they should of been proactive in making sure that the Voting Rights Act was straighten or a new tougher law was created\passed. The Supreme Court ruled against the North Carolina GOP in 2017 for racial gerrymandering, though the GOP started their efforts after the 2010 Census was done. Now they wants athletes to bail them out of a situation that could have been prevented by them. I think CBC and NAACP gotten too comfortable in the decades after the 1990s and have become too dependent on funding coming from outsides groups that don't have the best interest of black people as priority.

Well if the kids won't do it. You move to plan B.

I can still turn off my TV and not watch SEC teams.
TSU can CHOOSE to not play SEC.

There are ways one can hurt the SEC. Even if it is not to the level some want it to be.
Did the NAACP and CBC even say this or have any discussion with all five HBCU conferences? It seems to me that the main focus, of the reporting, was about the athletes boycotting and not talking about a multi part strategy of boycotting.

as so uninformed the average black is about athletics - you really think the NAACP is plugged in to HBCU athletics? If they had a plan in place to ensure we can attract a high-quality athlete such as facilities, NIL, etc. then you can roll it out cause evereyone is aking what's next if they enroll tomorrow?

The hit dogs are hollering. If these bills pass in other states, I hope that the Black politicians will speak up as well.

----------

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin took a social media jab this morning at Alabama legislators who introduced a bill prohibiting the teaching of “divisive concepts” and the sponsorship of “any diversity, equity and inclusion program” in Alabama public schools and universities.

“Although I’m the biggest Bama fan, I have no problem organizing Black parents and athletes to attend other institutions outside of the state where diversity and inclusion are prioritized,” Woodfin said today on the X social media platform.

“If supporting inclusion becomes illegal in this state, hell, you might as well stand in front of the school door like Governor Wallace,” Woodfin said. “Mannnn it’s Black History Month. Y’all could have at least waited until March 1.”

This is out of Kentucky, but I do not think the call for this is new.

There are HBCUs in the state, Kentucky State in Frankfort (SIAC) and Simmons College in Louisville.

This is another example of a "hit dog will holler."

My eyes were very open to it in that area during that time. The truth, their truth, was being given to those w/ viewing eyes during that time. 👀

I would not go as far to say the NAACP, national leadership, and the CBC are useless, but to me their number one priority is keeping their pay masters happy rather than black people. They will only help Black People when there is no contradiction to that from their backers and their party. From my understanding the CBC has non profit foundation who pays those on their board over 100,000 in annual salary and the members on their board are CBC members. Civil Rights Organizations in the past use to run on shoe string budgets, but the CBC has access to large pools of money but are less effective compared to past versions of Civil Rights Organizations activities.

The Teat Party Caucus was made up of about 1/4 of the CBC members, but they was able to pressure their party to do what they wanted. The CBC does not even stand up for their own members against the Democratic party. I remember two specific cases: When AOC group was targeting CBC members in primaries the CBC said nothing. When James Clyburn called out Nancy Pelosi for not having members on her staff that would understand the history and experience of Black Americans, the CBC did not back him up (as Clyburn argument was having Black people who families immigrated to the USA would not understand what Black Americans have gone through in this county). Without any backing from CBC Clyburn backed down a few days later.

Evidence is everywhere they don't functioning as a caucus. Clyburne would not of had to hem Biden in, on his own, to nominate a black female supreme court justice if the CBC functioned as a caucus.

The hit dogs are hollering on Capital Hill in DC.

Understand. With less money and rights, our forefathers and foremothers forced changed in the system. Look at the bus boycotts in New York City, Baton Rouge, Montgomery, Dallas and Tallahassee just to name a few. (Yes, there was a bus boycott in New York City.) With the SCOTUS and politicians in DC and the old Confederacy, actions are needed.
