so if I gain 2 more yards the next should I negotiate an increase?

But the real issue is the collectives are the ones making the deals and involving the schools - they are the problem
Yep, there are some collectives calling shots and influencing who plays and who doesn't.

There were no winners or losers here. The quarterback asked for more money, and Tennessee said no. Both moved on. It's no different than any other negotiation outside of college sports.

If his true market value and he gets the money from another team, he will have made the right decision to make the move. On the other hand, if Tennessee have to go into the portal and get an equivalent qb, it will have to pay the money anyway. The only way Tennessee wins is if the qb overestimated his value and and Tennessee goes to the portal and get an equivalent or better qb at a lesser price. The probabilities are against Tennessee because the market is on the upswing.

Not unusual now. I believe all but one of the all-MEAC first and second team players with eligibility left hit the portal.

That was probably due to your coach leaving to come yo A&M. And not knowing if the new coach will keep them on the team.

That’s what he was set to get this season but wanted increased to 4plus million.
Also, He received that the last 2 years. He signed a 3-year contract coming out of High School paying him 2.2 to 2.4MM a year. He was going into the last year and thought he was worth 4MM but his play didn't reflect that.

His true market value is being shown. No one is going to pay him that much. TN was willing to walk away because his production was not there. They won those games with Defense and the SEC leading rusher. Also, this will be a holdover year until they get Faizon Brandon who will be starting as a True Freshmen in 2026

With this Nico stuff, i would not be surprised if some of these contracts have a no transfer clause for a couple of years.

With all the smart people in his collective, why didn't they create one the first time they were burned? Do you want my money you cannot transfer but you are free to transfer anywhere else per NCAA you just don't get my money.

A no transfer clause can put a team at a competitive disadvantage if its competitors don't have a similar clause. Why would an athlete sign a contract containing that clause with Team A if he can sign a similar contract without that clause with Team B. The thing about a competitive market is that no one, except the market leader, can insist on requirements that others don't have. I don't think Tennessee is high enough on the totem pole to make demands not made by Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, or the like.

I can’t wait until Monday to see who we got left after departures. We got some good talent coming in but you hate to lose top talent. That’s the way of the world according to EWF…
