1. Alcorn State (0-0)

The Braves return after opting out of the spring season due to concerns related to COVID-19. Before opting out, Alcorn State won the SWAC East Division for six straight years and won the SWAC championship in 2018 and 2019. With the addition of Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman to the conference this season, Alcorn State moves to the West. SWAC sports information directors and coaches voted the Braves to win the division in the preseason poll.

2. Alabama A&M (0-0)

The Bulldogs are the reigning SWAC champions after dominating the spring with a 5-0 record. Alabama A&M returns many key pieces, including spring SWAC Offensive Player Aqeel Glass. SWAC SIDs and coaches voted AAMU to win the East.

3. Jackson State (0-0)

Talent isn't a question for the Tigers. On paper, Jackson State has the most talented team in the SWAC, brining in Power 5 transfers and four-star prospects under coach Deion Sanders. The question lies on whether or not this new group, at a program that finished 4-3 in the spring and has freshman Shedeur Sanders starting at quarterback, can gel together quick enough to contend for a conference championship.

4. Florida A&M (0-0)

The Rattlers join the SWAC after not playing in 2020 or in the spring as former members of the MEAC. FAMU brings in a signing class that features two three-star high school prospects and four-star transfer Savion Williams from Tennessee. The biggest replacement the Rattlers have to make is at the quarterback position, with program record-holder Ryan Stanley's college career ending. RaSean McKay is the projected new starter, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

5. Southern (0-0)

The Jaguars were 5-1 in the spring season. Southern had nine players selected to the preseason All-SWAC teams, headlined by reigning conference Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Lewis.

Not sure how the ranking should go beyond Alcorn. However, I agree that Alcorn should be ranked #1. The current history of that program proves that they are have been the team to beat. They beat us on a the last play of the game recently in Alcorn. Therefore, I give them the edge. The key is who will be #1 when the season is over?

Man txsu and valley gonna catch some folks slipping this year… and yeah bcu middle of the pack in the East with potential to be top half swac East good and they consistently knock off famu…. So disrespectful man … but we play ball on the field … any given Saturday folks… what you did don’t matter… who gone show up on Gameday will matter..

Alabama A&M is the returning SWAC Champion and should be ranked#1, Week 1. Alcorn hasn't played a down of football in almost two years, I would rank Alcorn #5, Week 1. ;)
You are welcome to your opinion, even when it doesn't make sense.

This is an invalid post that has no merit or validity......... if you think that it is valid.....then the SWAC has been peeing on themselves and humming singing in the rain for years???

Yeah don’t sleep in BCU. They will not talk trash or really say much until Friday night of Florida Classic week. They are quiet but always up to something down there in Daytona. They’ll always have some talent on that roster.

Personally, I think Alabama A&M should be holding down the top spot in the preseason rankings. I know these rankings mean absolutely nothing outside of debate purposes, the Bulldogs did play in the spring and showed progression under Maynor back in 2019. Alcorn State is gonna be tough, but I’ve gotta give it to AAMU right now.

We haven't played since fall 19 ... we also haven't been beaten since fall 19. You've got the beat the champ! Now which of y'all did that? And one last thing...

Alcorn commands respect because of the work we put in. Can't take that away no matter how upset they get with us.

Rankings and pre-season polls, before even one game is played, is like counting chickens before they hatch. But, it gives us something to bitch about.
