And just so yall know, some of these transfers yall getting are available because we told them no. Not trying to beef but it is what it is BUT this is what we said all along, JSU will make everyone better. If you cant play for us, why not play for another HBCU!
most of ours have Carolina roots and are players who know our DC from his days at SC State. We have 4 from one school (ECU)

Was he injured
Yes, he was injured a lot while at OSU which kept him off the field. Then he graduated and chose to walk-on at UCF for 1 season. They rotated a lot of guys on the D-line, and if I'm not mistaken there was a lot of talent on that team during that span (finished top 25 in 2016-2019). Rutgers was a COVID year, so kind of tough to judge that. But judge for yourself and see if he can pay.

Figured he was. Good film and if completely healthy he should at the least make for decent depth.

Quality depth is the minimum expectation I have for most transfers. Very seldom do you see one come in and take over a conference. If quality DL depth is all we get out of him that is still a win for us, especially when it comes to OOC games. There's usually a significant drop off in talent at our level of play after the 1st string players.

I dont see but one school putting their pride aside, looking in a mirror and trying to get better. LOL They low-key got a "new DC" because the one they had sucked BAD and now some new defensive players. They need a lot more but at least they are trying because they were gonna get SLAUGHTERED.
Just like we were slaughtered the last three years. It doesn't matter if the defense was bad in past years, it just matters if they are good now. JSU will find out soon enough.

Agreed.. not every transfer will be a starter. Some will show their impact from a depth perspective. Only Su and Bama state (at times) had a good defense in the spring. I agree that there is typically a drop off after the 1st string. This is the first season where we don't have that drop off (on paper). A quality 2 deep across the board with the only questionable drop off at the QB position (Greyson Thompson stats are decent and we are bringing in 2 more guys there).

I feel the same way... You will never see me braggin on a transfer UNLESS I personally (with my own two eyes) seen what he was doing to teams in high school. I simply dont get excited over them like others do. Hell we had some 3 star SEC transfers riding the bench on defense last year.

We not really talking about yours. Only 1. The rest is the work of Maynor and Boulware or however you spell the name of your new DC...lol

You should have been 1-2 vs JSU. easy. BUT hey, you won all three. Congrats and yes, without some help, you WILL get slaughtered BAD. Like really really bad.

Your defense needs starters. You dont need quality depth. You have about the worst defense in the SWAC.

and look dude, we know yall won the last 3. Most people won the the last 3-6 vs JSU. But you know yall have pretty much NEVER beat a good JSU team. When yall had good coaches in Jones and your first SWAC coach, we beat yall down. Get Ready for that to return.

It's funny because this EASILY applies way more to your defense than it does ours. Our defensive issues were in the secondary, where we were extremely young and starting true freshmen in those positions. Bad open field tackling led to big plays (JSU scored 3-4 TDs off of missed open field tackling). Not to mention that was the team's 1st game back in 5 weeks due to COVID cancelations, so there was a lot of rust. As they played more games under their belts, our defense really started to stiffen up. We held SCSU to 7 points, Bama St. to 14 points, and UAPB to 21 offensive points. You can choose to go off of that one game in Jackson, but our defense was night and day compared to yours. Just facts.

AAMU's defense was ranked 4th best in the SWAC last year, and 2nd best in defensive efficiency.

Our starters were fine, but we'll take the incoming transfers to increase the competition for the 1st string and increase depth in the process. The defensive returnees will be 2-3 year veterans. Iron sharpens iron.

Nobody played defense in the spring but Su and maybe Bama state. Everybody else defense was trash or missing something. If a backup QB and a camera man turned RB put up 43, your defense was not good.

Scsu didn't have anything on offense. Bama state lost their QB early on that game. That backup that pv just signed was trash.

Bama state player defense??? Maybe against you. Our defense has ONE bad game last season. Shir Bama State down… shut SC STATE down… abs UAPB… remember UAPB scored 2 tds off a kickoff return and a fumble.

Yall were actually 5 out of 9 in total defense in conference only stats. Bama St had better defensive play than most but su mainly was the only school that had a defense worth bringing back. Scsu had nothing offensively. Bama state lost their qb after putting up those 2 TDs early on. That other dude sucked. But hey if y'all think yall had a good defense then God bless.

Gentlemen,

We go through this "what we gone do next year" on a consistent basis. All of this talk will be settled on October 9, 2021 in Normal, Alabama. It's obvious that the JSU fans are excited about their 2021 fall team and I can assure that AAMU will be well prepared this fall for any opponent. There is no secret that we need our defense to match our offense. I strongly think all aspects of the defense has been addressed, including a new defensive line coach. Please don't sleep on DAHILL's comments about our defense. Don't be shocked or surprised if we are in the top 2 in defense this fall. Plus, the kicking game is on point. Again, hopefully, we will win at least 2 - 3 games this year.
