Yup, when we say things like that ... some folks think we're making it up. And it's like every 2 years some fool puts a bill in the Louisiana Legislature to merge higher ed into one board.

You can look across the river in Mississippi and see how bad of an idea that is

The JSU situation as well as Ole Miss last year is why that is a bad idea (if Ole Miss really wants every public to have their own BOT they could push to make it happen)

LSU has better programs in nursing, engineering and law so what would they gain from absorbing SU?

Speaking of merging, it would do SU a lot of good to just merge the viable programs at SUNO and SUSLA and bring them to SUBR. SU needs to end as a system and put all their resources in the Baton Rouge campus. Then SUBR would be better able to meet the needs of its students and attract more students. This would probably save money too.
 
Some people just don't know... The white man does not want to compete... Plain and simple.. For SU to still have a great Engineering, Law and Nursing Program, after been cut to the bone says alot..

BTW SU nursing program has been Nursing Program of the Year in the State. more then any Nursing Program in the State of Louisiana (BSN MSN. PHD)

What some people dont understand is if the State had the power.. SUBR would be in the LSU System. Most of the State legislators in LA are SU grads..SUBR would not be touch just moved to LSU

SUNO, NWState, Nicholls, Mcnesse LSUE AND LSUA- Closed and GSU( would basically only offer BA BS) political blowback if Closed

ULM( would consolidate/Merge with La Tech)
The only Public Pharmacy Program (ULM)

Latech- Research North
LSU Research South
ULL AND UNO. REGIONAL U.-Population Center
 
I am glad some people on this forum don't have power ....because our HBCUS either would be CLOSED or MERGE, ..

If Tenn State did not play HBCUS in football they would struggle. If HBCUS stop playing HU & A&T they would struggle. At the end of the day they want to be in the circle of saying they are diversity which I understand , but yet they will still need US.....
 
Because the white folks kept funding from black schools for decades and still keep funding from black schools. Are you one of these people who deny southern whites don't strategically do racist things?

on academic rep, I believe the public SEC schools with strongest reps are Georgia, Florida and aTm

And higher ed in Louisiana is a direct result of the Longs putting beaucoup money into LSU.

I think most HBCU alums still has this HBCU comradre as "we all black" even if some HBCU alums (mainly the black "Ivy" league and east coast HBCU alums) try to other themselves.

Tennessee State provided the blueprint for the part time HBCU model (athletically) and Hampton (and A&T) decided to follow it. If our conferences froze them out (which I know they won't do), they would get slapped with reality. It's not necessarily alums that want all this "diversity" but administration

Someone must don't know that, outside of Vandy and Florida, that schools from the Big Ten scoff and turn their noses up at SEC schools because almost all of them academically are better than the SEC. Not saying that these schools are complete trash but don't let big new buildings from athletic revenue and decades of alums from big state U running these states overfunding these schools fool you into thinking they're all of a sudden Ivy League schools
 
Kind of reminds me of some of these folks in Huntsville. I know folks who sent their kids to UAH to get a degree and couldn't believe their child didn't automatically get a job when they graduated. Some black folks think a magical thing will take place because they go to white schools. Every day I go to work from contractors to contractors buildings for over twenty plus years seeing the same thing I saw twenty plus years ago. White men sprinkled in with one to two blacks and white women. They throw in a few Asians or Indians here and there. I guess that represents diversity to some. For instance I went to two meetings last week with over 200 plus folks. At those meetings it was less than 20 blacks at each one. So I keep asking the same question I did as a young adult. Where are the blacks with all the lovely diversity white folks are giving? It's 2020 and it's the same as it was in 1990.

Good Post.....What is sad is some people simply don't read or do research and have no earthly idea of what historically has happened. A great deal about mergers, lawsuits for equilibrium in higher education funding, decrees etc. have been written about but a lot of folks or simply not "in the know." A great deal of these merger talks became common when S.U. & Grambling (like many HBCUs across the south) filed suits against their respective states for fair funding in higher education. Many people wonder how TNST became a part of the OVC. In their instance, it was not initially a voluntary decision. As a result of their suit for higher education, the judgment in the suit had requirements for "other student" recruitment to increase diversity and was told they must compete in the OVC.

For instance in the state of Georgia, Georgia Tech was the only state school allowed to have a school of engineering. It wasn't until I think around 2005-2008 time frame that schools sued and won to get engineering programs and won. So with that being said of course Georgia tech would have the best engineering program in Georgia or the south for that matter. Over two hundred years of funding was put in place. They have all the research programs and dollars because no one else could get them. That is what's called white supremacy. Blacks today call that smart. Naker please. That's crazy. In Alabama; Alabama A&M had to sue the state of Alabama to get a engineering program. They only would let us have a engineering technology program up until we won the law suit in 1996. The sad part is we dropped our engineering technology program because of a dean that came in from John Hopkins instead of this dude building it up towards manufacturing. He let these white folks trick him and then he left town. Now with all the Toyota Mazda plant and spin off companies coming to North Alabama, UAH has started a Engineering technology program. It's geared toward manufacturing. Once again white supremacy tricked dumb black folks.

S.U. & Gram sued Louisiana in the 70's. As a result of judgments, the courts did similar things as well....including cutting duplicate programs, making certain programs exclusive to certain universities to encourage diversity and of course toying with discussions of mergers in the name of reducing overhead. Some folks have no idea of our fight for survival or those that would prey on us and take over if we were not up for the fight.....LOL
 
Also it reminds me of this dumb black chick and dude I use to work with that went to Auburn. I remember them trying to crack about our EE and ME program at the time in 1999 not being fully accredited. Our technology programs and CE programs were. After I educated them that they couldn't be accredited until they had their first graduating class by the ABET. The first full class in 2000. The program started in 1996. They felt stupid.

It's scary how they act like white folks just happily helped us. These new age black folks are crazy.
 
Until Louisiana improves its overall educational system, LSU would continue to get below-average students on a national scale compared to other state flag ship schools, which is pretty much the same pool of kids all the other Louisiana universities receive. Bigger and nicer facilities can't fix the dilemma of not getting the top notch kids in academics to enroll. A major shift in the mindset of Whites in the South would have to occur to reverse that trend, which IMO will not happen anytime soon.

@CEE DOG Vandy, Florida, Missouri and Texas A&M are the only SEC schools in the Association of American Universities. In comparison, all Big 10 schools except Nebraska are currently members
