Is this the worst season ever for SU?

Interesting question. Before elaborating on this season, we must not forget SU won less than 15 games in 2014 and 2016....and in 2016, 3 of those wins were against Selma. And barely won over 15 last season.

While this season hasn't produced wins we SU fans, grads, etc. would like, the true SU baseball follower understands the team is in a "sunken place"....lol.

What frustrates me (and I'm sure others, as well as the coaches) is the constant lack of pitching late in games. I like the spunk and fire the team shows by coming back and continuous fight which grabs leads late in games.

But looking at every loss vs PB, the 2 losses at PV, the high scoring loss at grambling, the 2nd loss vs UIC, and again today, SU baseball would piss off many. As a former hurler yourself, I'm sure you understand.

Coach Jackson was put in a tough situation. Hired in July, scholarship reduction( this is the last year), and post season ban( last season for that). The team comes out and fights like they are playing for first place, that’s all we can ask for. The future is very bright, but if Austin Howard wouldn’t have backed out the last minute, SU wouldn’t have issues with a closer. Everyone was saying he was the best player on the team.

The question was, "is this the worst southern team ever?"

I know what he said. I gave the best answer to date. Ever??? I don't know SU's baseball history from conception to now to say if it's the worst ever.
Pitching woes, this is the worst I've seen(read) in a while. Even though, SU has had bullpen issues lately, this is painful.
Hitting, not up to par to SU's standards. Even though SU ranks in the middle of the SWAC, SU (and it seems the rest of the SWAC) expects better.
Fielding, SU is near the top of the SWAC......but to me, that's nothing to brag about.

Softball - We will probably get in by default if we beat JSU this weekend. Not used to us being this sorry in softball but the team is still young

Baseball - Think we are locked into the 3 seed in the East. Only 2 behind JSU in the loss column with 3 fewer games than JSU and ASU but we would have to sweep AAMU and Alcorn plus hope that the two teams ahead of us slip up (which to this point don't look like it will happen).
