Possibility of moving to Dallas

Dude get you a media room. That's where I go in my crib to get away.

If he find a place with enough land, he should build a complete separate building detached from the house. He can turn it into a garage/entertainment center with all the necessary conveniences (refrigerator, stove, bathroom, etc.). It would be a place where he can chill or work on his vehicles.

I'm building mines this summer in my back yard. Can't wait for it.

Buck, I live near Joe Pool lake and my sons are in the Mansfield school district. It isn't a bad drive to Ft. Worth from my area near I-20. But Panthro is right, they just built the Chisholm trail tollway on the SW end of Ft Worth so depending on how far west she is working, that could be good also. My wifey is from the DMV area and she likes living by the lake and we are pretty central to almost everywhere

A lake would be nice. The communities that we see are huge. The schools are new and huge.

What is the job market like for technical careers? I'm looking at jobs there and I am concerned that my salary wouldn't be the same as it is here. I'm looking into consulting for the following job types: System Engineering, Software Engineering, Test and Automation Engineering

Lockheed is big out there.

It was this fiyah strip club I went to out there a few times when I went out there to work back in 2002-2004. I wonder if it is still open.

North(-West) Fort Worth, yes sir.

I've been so sheltered and literally babied over the last decade or so until I'm not sure what's what in tarrant county anymore lol. I know that Lockheed and and Bel(Air - heli, I think) were decently large for a few w/ those specific technical positions being available.

buck, the first question you need to ask yourself is "am I a country boy in the city or a city boy in the city?" :D That'll help you make a sound decision as to where you want to be and how you're situated in that area.

You have a lot of options in those fields: Lockheed, Bell Helicopter, Gamestop (Grapevine), Sabre out in Southlake are some of the largest ones in Tarrant County that I can think of off the top of my head. But keep in mind there are a number of spin off orgs from Lockeed and Bell like Triumph to consider too. Consider American Airlines too. You will find something out here.

Sabre out in Southlake

*looking like Stephen in "D'jango." :-|

"Boss! I'ze da' only nigwhitey outchea'. I ain't sharin' my space with no other darkie!":mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

:D lol Forgot about Sabre and some other large corp that took over the old IBM campus in Solana.

It's official that we will be moving. I was in Dallas last weekend with my wife looking at Homes in Cedar Hill, Mansfield, Irving, Arlington, Flower Mound, and Duncanville. My wife will check out Grapevine and Grand Prairie over the weekend. Our realtor took us to some nice areas in Cedar Hill. I don't know why Cedar Hill is looked at as a bad area. It kind of reminds me of how people view PG County Maryland. PG County has some nice areas and not so good areas also.

Because its Black. You have to understand that the metroplex is extremely segregated as a metro. Its not integrated like the Houston metro. Most white folks frown on the southern part of the metroplex and ofcourse, some Blacks follow with that mindset. Black + Hispanics= Bad.

Honestly, Cedar Hill's location is FAR more attractive than the northern suburbs, IMO. It just looks better. You won't really find the hills, trees, rock cliffs, along with the lake up north. Its mostly flat prairie.

IMO, Dallas beats the DMV hands down. A little pricey, but the quality of life is a lot better IMO. The only thing you might have to worry about more are those spring time tornadoes. Dallas is located in the lower half of tornado alley. If I had the choice to move anywhere in the country, the Dallas area would be first on my radar. I have plenty family members that live in the Dallas area and it is close enough to my hometown that I can drive home within 5 hours or catch a 30 minutes flight via American Airlines from DFW. Also, you could get more land in the Dallas area, which is what I look at instead of the size of a house. One can always expand their home if they have the land.
The houses we looked at had 4,000 + square footage, but the bedrooms were small. The master beds are downstairs compared to upstairs here in Maryland. I have noticed the further north you move in Dallas the more the price. I found a few houses with a pool, but the rooms were small. The newer homes I saw in Irving, Arlington, and Flower Mound had small bedrooms also. Arlington had a lot of country areas where there were horses and cows. That's not an issue since I grew up around that in the SIP.

I know man. Cedar Hill has a nice view when driving towards John Pool Lake. Nice area!

I just sent my resume to one of my fellow Gramblinites that works there.

Buck,
I don't know if you know my frat Zock who posts on here every so often. He is also your frat. He works for Lockheed. He is in Florida now. But he worked at the Ft Worth facility too. He may know some folks you can connect with.

Buck if you want to call my agent, she is the smartest person I know she can help you out, she built her own house as her own builder and it has a mother in law house connected to it that's 3 bedrooms by itself, she even helped us with our commercial real estate when we had our business. Just DM me and I can send you her info if you like.

Thanks JR. I will reach out to Zock. I think he and I are friends on FB also.

The company where my wife works is relocating us and we had to select one of the realtors they have in their listing. It's a part of the relocation package.

Oh I forgot about that, just don't let them trick you into those overpriced neighborhoods. We are in the Grand Peninsula area near Joe Pool, prices are rising, but it isn't crazy yet
