Second-year coach Montez Robinson is making Alcorn State relevant again

The 7,000-seat arena in Lorman, Miss. where Alcorn State plays its home games bears the name of legendary coach the late, great Davey L. Whitney.

In nearly 30 seasons at the helm, during a career that spanned six decades, Whitney captured 12 SWAC regular season titles and won the conference tournament six times. However, in the 14 years since he last strolled the sidelines, the Braves haven’t built upon the championship foundation the National College Basketball Hall of Fame member laid.

It’s been a long time coming, but second-year coach Montez Robinson is trying to restore the feelings.

I doubt you have ever been there, its been 7,000 since construction.

While a student I went to 4 basketball games at Alcorn. As an alum, I've been been to two. I've been to three football games at Alcorn and got speeding tickets driving less than 5 mph thru the Natchez Trail to prove it.

Good deal, you need to speed up. Its not the Natchez Trail, its Natchez Trace Parkway.

Stay off the Natchez Trace, those tickets are no joke. Plus HWY 61 is easier route to travel.

i thought i was bad and took the trace back to natchez at night

if you want to see walk with the wildlife and hit a few or even run over them that's the perfect time as its dark as xxxx

Whitney holds about 4000 max. ..on a good day. It holds more in concert formation or if you have people standing on the arena floor for events. A lot of arenas give out bad info like that. Look at Hamptons stadium. THey say it holds 17K but that place holds 10K max. If you read the fine print, it says 17K for concerts, etc... which means .. people standing/sitting on the field. That thing has 11 rows of bleachers. I counted when I went there.. LOL

One year I made the trip by myself and saw a dead river otter.

I only use it from PG to 552. That's it lol

I made the mistake of riding it from Alcorn to Jackson and got a $350 ticket (speeding, suspended license). Never again lol. I see the girl I was talking to on Facebook in the SWAC groups and get all types of mad again lol

Dude, Alcorn's the least of JSU's worries. You needs to hush up or next time we'll let them combine Alcorn and Valley.

lmao yal keep me rolling
I'm sure it wasn't funny to Alcornites when JSU folks gathered together at the state capitol to help yall keep yall's doors open? Perhaps next time we'll think better of it and allow the state to call it JSU branch at Lorman.

With all that said, you better win a first round game. LOL.
