SWAC Headquarters to Houston?

I do agree the SWAC championship coverage is not as broad in Houston but I assume due to the city being so big. It had more coverage in BHam.

I say go with who ever makes the best offer. After all it's just the HQ. But I would really consider the move if Houston is really trying to help rocket the brand. Free rent is good but sometimes you have to pay a little to earn a little bit more same as they did with the football championship hosting site. Legion was rent free and now NRG is right at $150,000 and so much more I think after 35,000 fans. As long as they do right by burmingham by showing a great amount of thanks and appreciation because BHam city leaders did as much as they could for there size city. They supported the SWAC highly and you never know who you'll need again. But Houston should help market the brand even more. But again it's just the HQ. Hell the HQ could be in Australia honestly. Lol lol as long as the game hosting site is within the member institutions geographical locations. Lol

Where did you get $150k from?

“If they accept our offer we have told them where they would be,” Turner said. “Their offices would be in the downtown area. We’ve given them a pretty good deal from a financial point of view, much, much better than where they are right now.”

Turner has led the charge to bring the SWAC headquarters to Houston.

“It just adds to the city of Houston,” Turner said. “We have a great environment for sports. To have the SWAC here just adds to the diversity of what we offer to people. This would be just another feather in Houston’s cap.

Turner said he met with SWAC commissioner Duer Sharp during the conference’s postseason basketball tournament in March at Toyota Center.

“I had him at city Hall,” Turner said. “He and I talked personally, and we’ve talked since.

Yes, I'm satisfied with weekly from the Chronicle. We were getting post game stories and getting more press than Rice, and UH.

We also have various news stations at our football games, while we are terrible. Overall, its much better than 5 or 10 years ago when all the focus was on the negative. And with social media now-a-days, print media is damn near extinct.
Don't settle lol.

Who cares? Sharp is not an HBCU Alumni and this weakness clearly reveals itself in his speeches and decisions. Why should we even care? I don't.

Mayor @SylvesterTurner is still working to get @theswac to move its headquarters from Birmingham, Ala. to Houston.

Unless the SWAC moves to Houston with a new, competent commissioner, this means nothing.

The Commish does what the Presidents want. So he is just a figure head. Unfortunately, no one who wants to have some say will want that job even if Duer left or got fired. Because at the end of the day, our Presidents and Chancellors run the SWAC. Even when they change themselves at our schools it remains the same. They like have the LAST word in what the conference does. So no one with any great ideas and some stones will entertain working for a bunch of academic types who know nothing about sports. Only those who will be comfortable in just collecting that paycheck will do it. Duer even said it himself, it is up to the Presidents on what they want to do on a conference call a year or so ago. So until we (alums) start holding our sitting Presidents accountable for athletics as well. We will get more of the same. Now in saying that. A move to Houston even with Duer Sharp is a good move.

those same companies aren't supporting the local schools now, that would not change...if some will, they would take from the local schools and just let it stay in the SWAC

What is the great benefit to the SWAC if its headquarters move from Bham to Houston?

Like J4L said, no one can put a monetary value on it until we see the offer. My thing is this. Why not move it to where your major SWAC championship events are. Also if you did have dynamic leadership in the office, they are are in a city with many more resources than B-ham to get corporate sponsorships and they can do it with out having to fly or drive from B-ham to Houston to check up on their top events and how they are going. At this point it just makes sense. Unless it will cause the SWAC to lose money by moving from B-ham. I don't see why Houston should be worse than being in B-ham. It is more of a SWAC city as well. To me I don't see the SWAC office being in B-ham benefiting Bham or the SWAC at this point. Definitely they can be hands on in growing the SCG by being in the city all year long and getting to know the players in the political spectrum where they are have our biggest events.. Plus JAFUS, C-Leb28 and others are there for consulting if need be. Kenn is a 35 minute flight from Dallas to Houston to make sure things are okay. LOL.

Heck if I was B-ham, I would kick the SWAC out. You took the events away so why even bother with keeping the HQ.

Why? How?
(not just to you, but to any of the others who have posted that this move would be great)

I think it gives the SWAC office a chance to really get out there in the largest SWAC city and do some networking to get more resources and sponsorship's. Of course we are talking Duer Sharp. But one would hope the conference take advantage of being in the 4th largest city in the nation and not sit on their ass. Duer in B-ham was the worst. He had no one watching him. I think he will get challenged and watched a lot more in H-town.

Which is why he might wanna stay in B-Ham lol

To me, why have your conference's two highlight events in one of the largest metro areas in the country while your HQ is 12 hours away? Being in the same city could lead to more connections than available in B-Ham (plus the other tourneys could move there as well)
