Hack-a bad FT shooter gotta go


I will say that Florida used this strategy against LSU in their 2nd match in Baton Rouge. LSU was up by 17 at one point, and by using the hack-a-bad-shooter around the 3-minute mark trimmed the lead all the way down to 2 with less than a minute left. Now I can understand frustation with the teams that do it in the first 3 quarters.

Really! Shaq would practice after games, the players today are more interested in going to the club and marketing their brand then becoming better players. Ben Wallace was worst than Shaq and they did not change the rules for him. He would throw up air balls on free throws.

You stay wildin' with misplaced generalizations and assumptions.

But it's not about changing the rule for certain guys (even though the NBA has changed rules because of the impact certain players had on the gameplay) who can't shoot FT well.

It's about how teams unabashedly go out of their way to foul those guys not involved in the play or don't have the ball that interrupts the flow and rhythm of the game without any real penalty for doing so.

That's not basketball and nobody goes to the game to watch a foul fest.
 
They are professional athletes getting paid millions of dollars. It's obvious that the big men who struggle at free throws don't try to practice free throws in the offseason.

Y'all excuse me. I'm about to go skullfvck somebodies sons [plural] up and down the basketball court for free. I wish I could shoot FTs for those times I anticipate their uncoordinated azzes fouling my raggedy old azz. :D

Andre Drummond spent the summer at Peak Performance Project, or P3, in Santa Barbara, California, in part working on his form. The Pistons brought in renowned shooting coach Dave Hopla to establish a three-bounce technique.

In January, Drummond tested a grey shooting sleeve that used sensors to signal when he deviated from form.

Are you really up here trying to defend bad free throw shooters who have careers averages of 38% and 42%? The guys are not working hard enough to improve how they shoot free throws.

Soooo he made 1k FT in practice but air balled two in a game? Plus he's nearly 7 ft tall? I'm starting to think free throws are 90% mental...def not mad at hack a strategy lol

Earlier in the thread you said guys who struggle at the line "don't even try" to practice FTs in the offseason.

Then when presented information that they do, going as far as working with shooting specialists, coaches and teammates, now say they aren't working hard enough.

Stop moving the goalposts, dude.

It's obvious that their struggles at the line is a more mental at this point than mechanical or a lack of practice.

And your solution is to stop hacking bad free throw shooters because less than 10 players can't shoot to a free throw to save their life smh. If a player knows they have a weakness during the season, the offseason is the best time to put in work. You can tell by their shooting form that they will probably miss the shot before it even hits the rim.

The NBA has changed rules because of one player.

I don't like the hacking because it deters from how the game is played. In every other sport, committing a penalty or foul in a game usually hurts the team that committed it.

But in basketball teams see committing fouls on certain players as an advantage. That can't be good for the game.
 
Kevin Durant was credited as the player who led the NBA to restricting offensive players from doing the rip-through on defensive players.

The 5-second rule was implemented because guys like Barkley and Mark Jackson would endlessly back down guys while posting up.

And we know the NBA changed rules because of Mikan and Wilt.

You must have not see how they went out of their way to foul Rodman, Wallace and Shaq. They were all awful free throw shooters. Rodman, could not hit the back of the barn, Wallace is statistically the worst free throw shooter ever and Shaq was awful also.

When you foul someone, you are breaking the rules. I should not have to do anything else to benefit from it. In football, I should not have to make a field goal to benefit from you grabbing my facemask.
