I agree with everything you stated above, but at least they can set aside monies for those who choose to go to college and graduate. The country can put together a payment schedule that rewards people with more money for high GPA's and advance degrees. Paying folks to go to school is not a bad idea, plus it would be a great investment for people that have been unjustly treated since their ancestors arrived.

And it was another country (Germany) that treated them bad. The United States was one of the countries to rescue them from Hitler and the Nazi's death camps. It would seem like they owe the United States.

I've been saying this for as long as I knew about the holocaust. If I were ever in political office, I'd offer a bill to end all those payments!

The reparations were paid to Holocaust survivors in the form of home nursing care, medication and social services. It's $1 billion.

Every black person would want to jump on board. Yet, why should the U.S. be the sole country to pay reparations. Many of the African countries are just as guilty. We often place the blame on Europeans for slavery but let's be honest with ourselves no white man knew the landscape of Africa; who led them to villages, who assisted in the capture?
Let's take Ghana for instance. Will they chip in on the reparations?

In response, the Obama administration last week approved $12 million in aid over the next five years to assist these survivors. This was part of an initiative backed by Vice President Joe Biden in 2013. Last year, the White House named Aviva Sufian as a special envoy for U.S. Holocaust survivor services.

We are talking about what the United States owe us for the free labor of our ancestors. Damn near every country in this world was involved in the slave trade of our ancestors, but the United States benefited the most from our ancestors free labor. Why should we ask countries like Ghana for reparations when they really can't help themselves? It would be like getting blood from a turnip. But yes, a lot of European countries should be involved in reparations for Blacks who ancestors suffered in slavery, especially France concerning the Haitians situation.

My question re: reparations is who would actually get the money, or have access to it? Would it be anyone of African decent who happens to live in the US, or would you have to prove that you are the descendant of a slave? Would geneaology (sp?) tests and old public records be enough to prove that? I'd love the idea but it'd be a logistical nightmare to make that happen.
It would be easier to offer things like free tuition, room and board to any university where a Black student is accepted, be it JSU or Yale. Exemption from Federal taxes. No-interest or low-interest business loans and home loans....I do like those ideas. That would be easier to manage. I'm with @CEE DOG , you just can't give some of these clowns out here $150K and send them on their way.

Don't get me wrong folks, I do think we deserve it. The problem I have is and I'm being realistic is the idiots and I do mean idiots that will Rob and kill each other knowing folks in their communities got that kind of money. If you do it for education and training or creating jobs I am all for it. Just putting that kind of money in the hood would create Iraq. Sometimes we gotta tell the truth.

I truly understand what you are saying believe me. I could definitely use and would appreciate it, but man those other idiots who are always on the come up be like those fools in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina when they were stealing TV's instead of helping each other survive. It's not the people blowing the money that bothers me. It's the robbing, jacking and killing that would come with it that scares me.

I agree with you. We know some people will blow it but give us the chance to choose (unless slavery when we had no say) whether we wanna blow it or not. How come we are the only race that not can't get reparations but then the reasoning behind it is because we will just blow it.
I do like the college idea for those that wanna do so especially if it is known that a school like Yale used slave labor to build their schools.

Many white folk still don't think enslaving us was wrong. Reparations is a way for this country to tell them their thinking is flawed and it was morally wrong.

i'm saying everyone should get them (reparations) regardless of if they go to college or not. The college part is just a branch of it. Many of these prestigious universities were built off free labor so there should be monies set aside for those that choose to go to those colleges BUT I think more of that money should go to HBCUs to get us back on equal footing. not into the GSF but the endowment to ensure our futures
Man stealing TVs might have helped them cope. IDGAF what they were stealing from stores during Katrina.

Brother I have no self hate. I just tell the truth. I grew up around folks who have killed, will kill and have no heart. I just tell it like it is. Many of the people I know aren't doctors, lawyer's or engineers. They are hustler always on the come up. The bottom line is just like doing tax time and Christmas time these folks will come up. If checks are coming out in the hood they will get paid. I'm sorry if I think of the bigger picture of the black community that others with selfish motives don't think of, but it is what it is. The truth is many folks will act a fool and many would get killed over the dollars. The truth hurts but it is no denial on my part. Yes it would be a wonderful thing, but only if done correctly. Just giving folks hundreds of thousands of dollars would be trouble.
