2015 FCS Playoffs Attendance

How many of "us" would show up to the SWAC Championship/Celebration Bowl if no sideshow events were scheduled around the football games?

Would todays SCG have 40k if nothing but a football game was scheduled?

I think the SCG would still blow PWI FCS game attendance out of the water, but I doubt it gets over 35k.

I guess it is a fair question, but I hate that this question has to be asked about "us" when it comes to events like this. Now, I may be in the minority for thinking this, but you can't convince me that folks come to an event like this SIMPLY because of a concert. And if for some reason there are, it ain't many. The concerts after the game may add value to a ticket, but I just can't imagine people buying a ticket simply because of it. When I learned R. Kelley cancelled, I simply didn't care.

But that's just me.

1st Round

Dayton vs. Western Illinois
Attendance: 997

Chattanooga vs. Fordham
Attendance: 997

Coastal Carolina vs. The Citadel
Attendance: 6,751

Sam Houston State vs. Southern Utah
Attendance: 3,098

Montana vs. South Dakota State
Attendance: 14,575

New Hampshire vs. Colgate
Attendance: 3,303

William & Mary vs. Duquesne
Attendance: 4,395

Northern Iowa vs. Eastern Illinois
Attendance: 7,062

And this is what them Meac folks are fight to be apart of.

If I recall there weren't concerts at the Bayou Classic in the early years. It's possible my memory deceive me

I always felt that the playoff vs. scg
attendance argument was bogus. It's really apples to donuts. The scg is an event - like a good classic game - that draws fans from other schools for a variety of reasons. Every SWAC school was represented yesterday. Playoff games are more akin to an extension of the regular season. You're talking about multiple games against unfamiliar schools. The real question is whether FCS should scrap the playoffs and move towards a bowl based model based on conference champs or even region. It would be great to see Alcorn play the OVC champ in a bowl type game.

You weren't by yourself I didn't give two flips about it.

Why even wonder this? HBCU Football brings out casual fans and women that would never go to any other FCS or FBS game.

Even many professional teams are enhancing their entertainment extra curriculars to draw casual fans and women.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not minimizing our "big game" attendance or marketing strategy. The reason why I ask is because of the attendance disparity between regular home games and entertainment-centered Classics.

The SWAC is an FCS attendance leader, but it could be even better overall IMO. It seems that we show up in much bigger numbers in fewer games.

I think they had groups like Brothers Johnson and others when it first got to the dome. We always have had extra stuff going on at Our games but that's part of the "Pagentry" of Our games. We (HBCU'S) started so many trends in College Football til its not even funny.

FukkkDaPlayoffs!!!!!

Yeah I do remember the brother's Johnson now. Shows you what I was going there for. Lol

Thanks to social media people knew about the R Kelly cancellation 4-5 hours before the game started and 40K still showed up. I probably would say maybe 5K at the most (and that's being generous) might have sold/gave away tickets once they found out. Most people who attend our games come for the game and/or the halftime show so a concert doesn't mean much to them. The concert draws in those casual fans. Hopefully next year they go with someone "safe" like a Earth Wind and Fire or even Boyz II Men

Not surprise by the Jacksonville State numbers. They have had good support and their fans have come out to see a very good team play all season.

Although this isn't a FCS game this is the AAC's Championship Game that was also held in Houston. It got a lot of publicity from all the local stations while the SCG didn't get that same publicity on their stations.

Temple at Houston
Attendance: 35,721

Uh had every local station hyping this game up with reporters reporting live outside of the stadium Friday. They tried hard to sell that stadium out.

And those stations didn't even come to nrg.....no representation....a sad occurance.....media in Houston is horrible but this shows when you have no representation in leadership positions you'll get ignored unless a gun shot is fired and then they'll run

Honestly, I was glad to see that the SCG outnumbered the AAC game. Channel 13 did not even mention the score of the game on their 10PM news. In my opinion, they did not want to steal any thunder away from UH. The fact is that all 3 years the SCG has featured schools from Louisiana and Mississippi. This assured appositive impact on the Houston economy just with hotel stays alone.

Yep, considering that the AAC game started at 11:00am they could have easily came to NRG for the SCG that started at 3:00pm.
