Why Winston-Salem State’s Own Stephen A. Smith Is Wrong About Black Lives Matter

I agree that the black on black crime and police brutality are separate issues that should be handled separately.

However, some of yall are super quick to excuse crime against our own and place responsibility on everyone other than the person who committed the crime.

No. What I'm saying is that the people who are quick to point out black on black crime failed to understand the reason of the cause.

Why can't black folk point the finger at black on black crime ? My perspective of your reasoning is "that's just the way things are and black folks should not expect more". Just my perspective. I don't see why black folk can't get righteous indignation about June Bug shooting Pee Wee. So what if there was crime in poverty ridden areas of Europeans, Irish, etc in the 20s, 30s, 40s. What can't we expect more of each other ?

When you ignore history, you're actually letting the REAL guilty parties off the hook and blaming Pee Wee ONLY for the situation that was in place LONG before he was born. Pee Wee's primarily a product of his environment.
That doesn't mean that it totally absolves him of personal responsibility, but it also doesn't place the blame entirely on him either.

What if native Americans ignored how they were treated by Whites and ONLY blamed themselves for their current conditions? We all know that's total nonsense as do Whites.
Ignoring history is the easy way out of a complex situation.

I'm not saying that we should turn a blind eye to it. Never have. Never will. What I'm saying is that there's a damn reason as to why it occurs. To those that have done the crime they still should serve.

Exactly. People nationwide speak out every day about crime in Black communities, but they don't get the press that they deserve nor the assistance they need.
Had many of us grown up in some of the conditions these children grew up in with heroin, parents on crack, cocaine, gun violence, poverty, etc, the odds of us being in a gang or on the wrong side of the law due to survival instincts kicking in would be higher than if we'd grown up in the suburbs. That's factual and proven.
That's the same as saying, had most of us grown up in Egypt, we'd be Muslim or had we grown up in India, we'd be Hindu. There's no difference.

There's a "DAMN REASON" for EVERYTHING,that happens here on this EARTH.
But the REASON doesn't justify the ACTION or REACTION of the individual (black, white, cop, child molester, wife beater etc...) committing the crime.

Dylan Roof was a product of his environment. He came from a family of Racist people. He murdered those black church goers in South Carolina.
The very same RACIST and EVIL people that the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement individuals are targeting came from racist upbringings as well which means they are products of their environment.

I'm a proud BLACK MAN.
My mother was a 19 yr old teenager on drugs when she had me.
Me and my siblings were raised on welfare and foodstamps.
We moved from rent house to rent house in Easy Town Baton Rouge.
About 80% of my friends (Black brothers & sisters) were in the same boat.
We were the "HAVE NOTS", but we did commit felony type crimes.
We were normal black people living in the hood.
I'm nobody special. Then nor Now.
Most BLACK people living in these tough areas NOW are GOOD PEOPLE.
It's basically the 95% Rule. Which states that in most environments 5% of the people are committing 95% of the crimes.

These 5% of the people are not all victims of their environment but just simply people that chose the wrong path and need to be corrected by being held ACCOUNTABLE for their actions.
Because even with the conditions of our environment WE HAD VALUES.
Most Black People living in the Hood Today have VALUES they don't commit crimes.
So don't make a GENERAL BLANKET STATEMENT EXCUSE for every violent type black crime committer in the hood.
Because We don't need you to justify our brothers crimes.
Basically what you giving the world an excuse for the brother who shot a stranger because his shirt was red.
OR an excuse for the brother who shot and killed my former player outside a Nightclub in St. Martinville last month,
OR an excuse for the sister that beat her 8 year old son death because he wouldn't shut up.
None of these people need YOUR EXCUSES.
THEY NEED YOUR COUNSELING ON HOW TO OVERCOME THEIR PROBLEMS.

Wow! I actually agree with you 100%. The so-called black-on-black crime is nothing more than a deflection that is use to keep attention away from the evil that they committ on a daily basis and the evils that they have committed to contribute to the so-called black on black crime.

At the end of the day they are not only murdering us, but also our women and we need to stop making excuses for being cowards.

Why don't you tell the PARENTS of these kids that "THE WHITE MAN" killed their children.
Sometimes we OVER-ANALYZE SIMPLE STUFF.

Agree with your post but I don't recall anyone saying that those who commit crimes shouldn't suffer the consequences of their actions.
There's a reason why you had to grow up in the conditions you did that didn't just happen overnight. It was a long orchestrated process supported by powerful, rich people.
You had no control over the ghetto you were born in. You and that 95 percent you spoke of still had to endure and do the best you could though to survive in conditions neither of you were totally responsible for, nevertheless if some want to blame "only" the victims in the hood, that's their prerogative.

Who made the excuses that folks who commit crimes shouldn't be held accountable? Show me one post that did that.
Are you saying that if you brought White children from suburbs at birth and placed them in the same ghettos, that a sizable percentage wouldn't be negatively influenced and pick up some criminal ways? Are you saying the ghetto has no effect on the psyche of those living there, especially the children.

On the same note, place some of those Black children at birth in nice suburban communities and see if they wouldn't have a better chance of thriving because they wouldn't have to worry as much about murder, violence in general, drugs on every corner, getting enough food or poor educational facilities. Do you think those Black children wouldn't have a better chance of being successful being in the nice suburban environment? Just asking.

I almost thought we had found some common ground.
Before I misunderstand you JayRob can you please CLARIFY something for me in your earlier statement?
Who exactly are you referring to when you say "the Victims in the hood"?

What I meant by "victims" are those who are forced through no fault of their own to witness violent crimes, drug dealings, drug abuse, poverty, killings, robbery, little food in the home, police brutality, poor educational facilities, joblessness, population density, etc..
Most of the "victims" reside in "the hood" and not in suburbia.
A child growing up in suburbia has it far better than someone in "the hood" for the most part.

Because that wasn't my point. My point is just as large of a percentage of whites kill whites, but you don't hear them bringing that topic to the mainstream.

Why?

Because they want you to belive we are less civilized than the rest of the country. When the reality is all races are kill more by their own race then others.

We are so brainwashed into buying in to that propaganda, until we can sit in front our tv every day and see the incidence of white on white crime and our brain still rejects it.

We can look at irrefutable data on it and our brain will still reject it. It doesn't matter the status or education level the results are the same.

It's the equivalent of being sold the idea that having a gun in the home makes you better protected. When the reality is that every data imaginable says that in those case, it actually increases the chance that someone in the home will be killed by that same gun and increases the chance of suicide.

All the while we sit back and let them muder us, our children, and now our mothers and wives. As if the crimes we committ justifies their action.

IMHO it's just an excuse for being cowards. Any man that can watch the video I just posted and in good conscious not feel a shame or embarrass as a black man, that our women are showing more courage and willing to pay the ultimate price for what they belive in and love, isn't very much of a man.

IMHO.

To compare isolated acts of violence to sustained violence in concentrated areas is your first mistake.

The self-hating idea of black inferiority/white supremacy is SO pervasive. My God some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Just a stat from one state: At the height of America’s war on drugs, from the 1980s through the mid-2000s, more than 20 prisons opened in California, compared with just 12 between 1852 and 1984 at a rate of 10 billion dollars.
One can guess who were the primary victims of California's non-violent arrests for drugs eventhough Whites were five times more likely to have possession and use drugs, but folks want to blame only Rayray and Pookie nem.

To compare isolated acts of violence to sustained violence in concentrated areas is your first mistake.
MISTAKE!, BROTHER!, MISTAKE!
BLACK LIVES MATTER

In Baton Rouge there's been 40 homicides of which 36 were Black so far in 2015.
You tell me what's ISOLATED and what's SUSTAINED.
So brother, Good Luck with your fight. I support your 100%.
But don't you EVER try to degrade the rest of us in the everyday trenches.
Here are all of the 2015 BLACK VIOLENCE MURDER VICTIMS in Baton Rouge.
MAYBE THE "BLACKLIVESMATTER" supporters can take some time out from trying to cut down other movements and join me in saying a prayer for these Black Lives because they also matter.

Once again: THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT IS FOCUSED ON RACIAL HATE CRIMES CARRIED OUT BY POLICE. Stop being dense and contrarian.

Try sending this to local advocacy groups who exist to alleviate these issues. The BLM movement was NOT formed to spotlight individual crime issues. Your absence of knowledge on this is atrocious and shameful!

We as BLACK MEN have no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed.
More power to our sisters.
That's our problem just because Black Women are being strong in the video you are saying that Black Men should be embarrassed.
GOOD JOB BLACK WOMAN, and this is from a STRONG BLACK MAN.
Oh and by the way
HERE'S A CLIP FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA CHURCH SLAYING RALLY
BLACK MEN can put in work too.
