The Great Debate: Better baseball player: Griffey or Bonds

Griffey Jr. all the way. Offensively and defensively. Bonds being a feared hitter doesn't make his case. Griffey was better all around period.

By 93 Bonds had 3 MVP trophy's. Griffey didn't get his only 1 until 97. Bonds got 3 well before the steroid allegations. If you follow baseball Bonds has always been known as one of the best but Griffey was more loved by the media because he was great with them. Bonds always told them to kiss his arse.

Come on. Steroids helps you hit the ball farther, you know that. Statistically speaking, Griffey was the better hitter too. Kendrick put the stats up above. The fact is nobody was calling Barry Bonds THE BEST PLAYER in baseball before he started chasing/breaking home run records, but that's also the most controversial part of his career. Bonds even started his career out as a lead-off hitter for a few years. KGJ was regarded as the best player in baseball for a few years in the 90s. Don't get me wrong, Barry was one of the greatest players of all time, but Griffey was the better baseball player.

Barry was considered on of the best when he played in Pittsburgh bruh. He had 400 HRs and 400 steals before steroids was ever thought of.

Thank you. The media hated Bonds because he didn't give a muck about them. It got even worse when he went to San Fransisco. Griffey was loved by everyone with that million dollar smile. I still can't believe that guy up there said Bonds wasn't considered one of the best until he started chasing the HR record.

Dude Bonds got 7 MVP's and Griffey has 1. I'm not disputing that Griffey wasn't one of the greats and could have possibly been one of the best ever but Bonds was a BEAST well before the steroid allegations.

I was referring to Mr. SWAC not you. I agree with you 100%.

Barry Bonds may be the most "unfortunate" casualty of the PED era. By all rational observation, he was a spectacular baseball player prior to using PED's(which surely began in the mid to late 90's). He has an eye for the ball and a great swing. He had all the tools offensively and defensively. He was a sure-fire HOFer with the numbers he was putting up.

But any rational person knows he used. The other part that is hard to account for was his "body armor". That allowed him to crowd the plate and take advantage of an era with subpar pitching. Its hard to discern how much of his inflated power numbers was due to the steroids, or how much can be explained by his protected batting stance, juiced balls and poor pitching. Again, its unfortunate because he would have been unarguably seen as one of the top three players of his generation and would be in the HOF. But now, he's basically a topic of debate.

Both. One thing that no one talks about, Bonds is in the 400/400 Club before the steroids, 400 Home runs and 400 stolen bases. Both were great!

For the first three or four seasons, I would say Griffey. After that I cannot say who was.
