Kansas wants to ban welfare recipients from seeing movies, going swimming on governments dime

Were their tax refunds more or less than the $600M refund GE got back a couple years ago?

The point that I am making is that they are not contributing as much as they are getting back. I had a woman tell me she would rather make $17k and have 5 kids and get some governmental assistance...and get her $10k tax return...that by the way is untaxed than to work. Meanwhile on her paystub she paid in $1300 in federal tax. All 5 kids have different last names.

Ok have them trade my student loan debt from grad school, the long nights studying, going to classes with teachers who wanted you to fail, job hunting with no money. If that's not enough have their parents trade with my father who was drafted and stayed in the military 30 years because he had kids, my mom going to grad school pregnant with two kids at home.

And if you think welfare queens don't exist then let's just call them Stupid People since they cannot rationalize that since having one baby is difficult another will not make it better.

nah... just trade your life now for theirs. Or your life in college for thirs while you were in college. You'd hate that too.

why? Because my parents worked hard and instilled the value of working hard?

I can see if a person lost their job etc....but to already be in poverty and have more children introducing them to poverty.

Well the thing is that person who lost their job or has one and wants a little help-are the main ones getting denied welfare assistance. I know too many who have lost jobs and tried to get on it and get denied. One got told he had to get rid of his car. Another got told get divorce and another got told get rid of your kids.

For some ODD reason it's the welfare queens that seem to get everything. The folks who need are the main ones getting passed over.

Yea my lady is a Nurse and was laid off. She tried the next day and was denied. Because of God's grace she was called in for a better job 4 days later.

Yet, folks say welfare queens do not exist.

This doesn't sound like the same guy who mentors prisoners. Did some of Bobby Jindal's folks get a hold of you or something?

Some people just know how to work the system. Like a person who is always in trouble with law can give good legal advice.

Yea just like the agenda of some welfare recipients to sit and wait on a check.

That's the kind of answer I'd expect. The real people in power who are abusing the system wants you to focus your attention on them. Tanesha gets an extra $250 a month for having a baby, but Congressman Dwight Mann just took an $8,000 vacay to China to "talk to business leaders". Stay woke, fam, and see who's really putting a so-called strain on your livelihood.

For example, women already on welfare should not be allowed to have multiple babies in order to get more assistance, which IMO is a big problem.

So what do we do with these hungry babies? We already addressed in the other thread how young Black women have difficulty getting access to birth control. So what do we do if the babies keep coming? No one has ever addressed this when they talk about capping welfare benefits. These kids didn't ask to be born, you know.

That, according to the legislation, means limiting spending on body piercings, massages, spas, tobacco, nail salons, lingerie, arcades, cruise ships or visits to psychics. The bill — which limits TANF recipients from withdrawing more than $25 per day from ATMs — also forbids recipients from spending money at a:

…theme park, dog or horse racing facility, parimutuel facility, or sexually oriented business or any retail establishment which provides adult-oriented entertainment in which performers disrobe or perform in an unclothed state for entertainment, or in any business or retail establishment where minors under age 18 are not permitted.

Ahhh.................... I don't see what the problem is on this.
They want those things listed. let them get a job and pay for it out of their own pocket.

Try a little self- responsibility.
You got 1, 2, 3, 4 kids and can't take care of them, why keep letting negros go raw up in you producing more kids that can't be taken care of. You want to keep cranking out kids, go get a job and take care of them. Amazing how the same issue is looked at from 2 different view points.

A MAN is supposed to GROW UP, get a job, take care of the kids he have here and stop producing more "babies mommas".
A WOMAN is supposed to sit back, be looked at like a victim no matter how many kids she crank out, and get paid on the public dime to take care of them.

I'm sick of feeling sorry for people with no self control that scream victim for things they cause for themselves.

Some of these so-called hungry babies have residence in two states, whereas the grandmother receives a check for the child in her home state and the mother receives a check in another state that she lives in for the same child and neither state are cross referencing each other to see if they are supporting the same child. I've actually heard of this happening between the State of Louisiana and the State of California. It appears to me, these so-called hungry babies are born into this world to only provide some type of support for others. And what’s even crazier, if the father is around and wants his child, the mother and grandmother will make sure that won’t happen since it would cut them off from their government assistance.

You described a particular scenario. It doesn't address the situation that would exist in every household, which is children with no food.

That's good advice for the parent, but a hungry 4 year-old wouldn't be able to comprehend that.

If this is actually happening it is a one in a million (literally) occurence.

What makes you think it doesn't happen that often? After my uncle died, I found out that the woman he claimed to have been married to was doing exactly that with her daughter who lived in California. I'm sure they are/were not the only ones running that same scheme between two states with a child. I'm sure if you check, you'll find a lot more have done or doing the exact same thing. Most people are not going to come and tell everyone the mess up crap that they are doing.

No it doesn't address every misfortunate situation, but states can put a stop to crap like this just by someone doing their job. How hard is it to check and see if a child is being listed for support in another state, which is real welfare reform.

I always find these attacks against the poor and marginalized interesting. Especially when these Kansas politicians are castigating outliers in an attempt to have the public believe the poor are the problem instead of poverty being the problem.

And folks are falling for it. Amazing.

While that should be done, there are way too many "if's" involved with that. What if the child is not listed for child support? What if the non-custodial parent is in jail? What if the non-custodial parent is dead? What if the non-custodial is working a minimum wage job in that other state?

Your answer is simple: Either YES, we put a cap on benefits and possibly have children starve to death or NO, we don't and give way to possible (not inevitbale) continuous abuse.

In Florida less then 1% of folks tested used drugs. They spent millions to get back 10k.
The gov's office already knew this. This was all about making his lab/ urgent care center more lucrative and attractive for other companies who'd want to acquire it. And actually, they got back nothing because the bill was never passed and those folks had to have their benefits reinstated.
