That, according to the legislation, means limiting spending on body piercings, massages, spas, tobacco, nail salons, lingerie, arcades, cruise ships or visits to psychics. The bill — which limits TANF recipients from withdrawing more than $25 per day from ATMs — also forbids recipients from spending money at a:

…theme park, dog or horse racing facility, parimutuel facility, or sexually oriented business or any retail establishment which provides adult-oriented entertainment in which performers disrobe or perform in an unclothed state for entertainment, or in any business or retail establishment where minors under age 18 are not permitted.

And someone says Ole Piyush is the only Republican governor doing crazy stuff.

They should be banned from spending the money on anything except food, education, or housing.

Most things are banned, but businesses and side deals are the ones allowing food stamps to purchase those items you list. So how does a state stop welfare recipients from buying legitimate things with food stamps and reselling them for something else???

So no clothes, utilities, books, school supplies, recreation, etc huh?

Clothes: So if they wanted they could go buy pair of Jordans? There should be select stores where they can shop for clothes. Businesses would have to submit an application to be on the list.

Utilities: Yea electric and gas but Cable....oh hell no.

Bruh come on books and school supplies should fall under education.

Recreation: Spend that time looking for a job.

Kansas government is doing this because they want to reduce the amount the state issues in welfare. Kansas is another Republican ran State that is struggling due to their Republican governor's crazy ideas.

Man this decision is not crazy. Welfare was not designed to be on for the rest of your life. I have seen folks on food stamps buying lobster. WTF!!! Folks who work everyday ain't buying that shit.

The time and effort it would take to properly put such provisions in place would cost even more money to administer. I bet that when it's all said and done, they wouldn't realize any real savings. But what it would do, for example, is provide contracts and kickbacks for the governor and his buddies who would own these "select stores" you speak of. A few years ago, the gov of FL, Rick Scott, wanted all welfare recipients to take a drug test to keep getting benefits....the lab that was supposed to handle the testing was owned by his wife. Before that, it was owned by him. There are agendas behind everything these people do. Democrats and Republicans, but especially Republicans.

And if we are policing the poor who get state funds, it would only be fair to monitor the spending habits of elected officials....those are the ones who are really wasting your tax dollars on frivolous purchases...but everyone knows that ain't about to happen.

I somewhat agree with you Founder, because I do believe certain people shouldn't be allowed to live off of welfare for a life time. I think the best way to reform welfare is by taking away those incentives that make me people stay on it, such as unwed single mothers getting more money to stay home to have more babies. It's better for them to be on welfare, stay single, and have babies instead of finding a medium wage job.

If you are on welfare you are living off the working taxpayer. Many of which are living check to check. I loved the welfare to work program because welfare recipients were required to get off their buts and do something.

The kids can't work. SMH

Also, I don't know how much you've been around truly poor kids, but their parents damn sure ain't buying Jordans for them. I have kids on my football team who are sponsored (free fees) and they first came to the field with barely wearable no-name shoes. Set of twins and an older brother whose parents had to get them haircuts on alternate paychecks. No backpack... they were using grocery store bags to carry stuff to school. I got them backpacks and school supplies. Mama actually has a job too.

Cable is not a utility, but they should be able to have internet at least.

Yea just like the agenda of some welfare recipients to sit and wait on a check.

Man y'all fall for anything these racist red necks say. Look they failed miserably at the testing for drugs on the welfare folks. Now they are counter acting by trying a new tactic. White folks will try anything to punish poor folks of color, but the best part about it is poor white kids suffer the most. Black people from the hood always find a hustle around white people because for one they have no common sense.

So if this mother could barely afford the first child why did she have another?

If welfare (TANF and Food Stamps) stopped altogether do you really think your taxes would go down?

I figured that would be your response.

I don't know what her circumstances were before the twins... her lil job might have been enough. Maybe she had a different job and got laid off... Don't assume.

There are more white folks poor than blacks. I'm all for random drug test on those receiving benefits. Yes there are poor people who need it but when is the line drawn on self accountability? You have a child and barely making it....then have another....and another. What gives?

In Florida less then 1% of folks tested used drugs. They spent millions to get back 10k. Lol the truth is they have babies by drug dealers, not use dope. Lol

Since he's from Louisiana, I certainly understand Founders frustration with the welfare system, which is one of the worse States that allows welfare abuse. Most State social service agencies in this country are setup with the delusion that they are helping families and kids. But due to outdated policies, people have found ways to abuse the system. For example, women already on welfare should not be allowed to have multiple babies in order to get more assistance, which IMO is a big problem.

It's fucking ridiculous here. It's a psychological problem. I see these women who work just enough to keep their benefits and then come in and get all this EIC on their taxes.

We have to be real with this...there are people taking full advantage of the welfare system and it needs to be stopped. The sad part is folks who working expecting social security probably won't be able to get it.

I always tell folks who believe that welfare queens exist to trade places with them for a couple days and see how much luxury they live in. Trade homes, clothes, transportation, bank accounts (they likely can't have bank accounts), etc and tell me if they are living high on the hog.

Were their tax refunds more or less than the $600M refund GE got back a couple years ago?

Ok have them trade my student loan debt from grad school, the long nights studying, going to classes with teachers who wanted you to fail, job hunting with no money. If that's not enough have their parents trade with my father who was drafted and stayed in the military 30 years because he had kids, my mom going to grad school pregnant with two kids at home.

And if you think welfare queens don't exist then let's just call them Stupid People since they cannot rationalize that since having one baby is difficult another will not make it better.

They might not be living high on a hog, but they are definitely not trying to get off of welfare. Here's a loophole for you. I knew this couple who never married, but lived together. They had several kids. He worked, she didn't. The reason why they never married was due to the fact that she would have gotten less assistance as a married woman. Although they lived together as common-law, he paid her child support through the state. If they did get married, she would have lost some of her benefits. For some strange reason I saw what they were doing as being anti-family, which is not what social service agencies should be promoting.
