Having had a close family relative involved in that..... Ill tell you what I told her.... You live and you learn, and guess what, she aint wearing daisy dukes and showing her stomach anymore....... Or hanging with the Mike Brown's of the world.... She took it and learned from it, and now she has a masters, married and living good....

It's called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!! If more people understood that and stopped blaming others for mishaps then the world would be a better place

If a woman is walking but naked down the street she should not be raped. Your cousin is probably dressing different because she is more than ashamed with her body and feel self consicience(sp).

Research has proven that it is a myth that you (black males) are treated differently based on clothing. Regardless of how a black male is dressed there is a greater chance of him being stereotyped and receiving negative treatment. If a black male is wearing an expensive suit, there may be an assumption of illegal activities leading to the ability to wear such clothing. I can give an example from my personal life, my freshman year in college I was in the Army and received a bonus plus a really substantial "refund check" from financial aid. I decided to go buy my first car and I did not want to finance it so I Pulled out cash ($7500) to get a decent used car. I went to the other side of Monte Santo Mountain to purchase the vehicle and I was decently dressed. I had on slacks, dress shoes, and an A&M Polo on. When I saw the car I wanted and decided to pay for it, the salesperson saw the cash and went and got the manager. The manager asked me to leave and stated, "we don't make it our policy to sell cars to drug dealers" :smh:... Now I was dressed nicely, had a close cut, clean shaven, and A-student but because I had a substantial amount of cash and was decently dressed, I had to be a drug dealer... The truth does not really matter in these types of situations, it is more so the PERCEPTIONS of the involved parties...

Smae here...

My first job I was recrutied to work for SAIC (Science Applications Internatilonal Corporation). I went to a car dealership to purchase a new Yukon (fully loaded) back in 1998 in Ruston, LA. I wanted SPECIFICS. The salesguy went and told the manager. Now mind you I have a Pentagon ID. The manager calls the Chief Detective for Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office and informs him that a possible drug dealer was buying a vehicle. The detective request my name and when he heard the name the detective went off on the manager.

My dad told me that "no matter what you do someone will always think of you as a thuggish ni$$a. It's a sad world we live in." Those words stick with me even until today and I pass the message on to my son.

No, wearing a hoodie with your pants sagging in a middle class neighborhood that has had previous break ins and are actively looking for a culprit is incriminating...

How? Was he carrying stolen merchandise?

I'm the first to denounce sagging. Yet, it is wrong to have this assumption.

The truth is people need to start carrying like LEO's. I mean I would rather rot in jail then be killed by a cop thug.

Yep.

I still remember Stephen A. Smith saying that WE should dress the part as well as opposed to jeans and hoodies defending what mark cuban said but then turned around in the same breath and said that an elderly white lady clutched her purse when she saw him walking down the street in a tailored suit. He deserved to get roasted.

There will always be people who have that mindset no matter what because of skin color.

The sad part is that we have black folk who feel they have "made it" because they live in a nice neighborhood, has a good job, and have bar-b-ques with white folks. It's really sad.

Lol..like Chris rock said..we haven't "progressed" in any shape of form...all it is there are "good" White ppl for us to allow things to happen..

If you see Ike Turner beating his wife Tina..8 times in 2 weeks and now he's doing it only 5 times in 2 weeks...Has he really "progress" when the shat is still happening

I have been telling y'all for years about white racist folks. The thing is most of the sellouts around here mark me and get mad for telling the truth.

Cee I feel you but do you live in the low income areas or do you own a nice home in the SB??? Most cities with a large Black population have nice all Black neighborhoods so we can live among each other but are you a sellout just because your educated and live in a nice neighborhood. I mean we can't make blanket statements about everyone.

I don't think it's as much about where you live as it is about what you do and say.

I think many are missing Cee's point. Just because you live in a white neighbohood you are not a sellout. Cee is talking about the folks who talk down to those who still live there and are struggling everyday. Everyone cannot move out, get an education, a good job, etc.... Some people are just faced with so many challenges that they are doing the best they can do with what they have.

The other part of Cee's arguement from what I am getting is this the way a person dresses has ZERO to do with black folks getting persecuted.

Living in a great neighborhood does not make you a sellout. I have never stated that. Why would anyone with a great income live in the hood? Being a sellout is looking down on poor folks. Blaming poor folks for problems of racism. Agreeing black men should be shot unarmed. That is a sellout.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. All the time on here folks talk down on poor, uneducated blacks.

Also I think any one who gang bangs, sells dope, sells malt liquor, rapes, hurts black people in anyway are sellouts too.

It will save y'all a lot of time and trouble if you realize that white supremacist don't always have white faces. Go to a pwi, live in a PW neighborhood it is your right. The issue is when you look down on others.

Also we need to point out that just because you have a different view doesn't make you a sellout. The sellout part is when you are glad to see other blacks killed. For instance on the other page over yonder, this one black republican dude celebrated when Trayvon, Jordan Davis, Eric G and Mike Brown got killed. He was glad to see these dudes die. That is sick and sad any black human enjoys the death of another black person. I wouldn't wish to see the leader of the KKK killed. Who in their sane mind enjoys that?

Well since we are offering definitions; a sellout could also be one who is simply unwilling to consider any other philosophical alternatives or ideology...or at the very least, respect them.

Sellouts could be those who constantly point fingers at any given problem but offer no solutions...or aren't even willing to offer assistance at said problem.

Sellouts could be those who know better, but simply choose to do worse.

Sellouts ARE those who ultimately resort to calling another a "sellout" or "tom" when he/she lacks the intellectual fortitude to continue discussing any given topic at hand. It's the ultimate punk-out.

Sellouts ARE those who are actually dumb enough to think that all white people are your the enemy and that all black people are your friends.

But given the various definitions that have been given on this thread on the definition of a sellout, everyone on here to some degree could be labeled as one. But I know better.

Please explain further.

I'll be all day explaining but if you understand the meaning of what a gang (group of ppl with a purpose to achieve or accomplish a task)..(not the meaning that you see on TV and how they use the word gangs) then you can understand how gangs can be positive

You do know Sorrors and Frats are gangs??

Gangs can start policing their community
Gangs can start educating young black men.. (the crips and bloods have OGs that can reach out quicker and get connected to the youths that are in their gangs faster than their parents can)

Just cause you're in a gang doesn't mean it has to be destructive to society..
Yea the bloods are NOW destructive to our society, but a change can happen and they can actually remain the bloods (exempt the killing and etc things that they do) and start doing positive things in their community.
You have the connection with the youth already..just turn that energy into something positive..
Gangs can organized Football Leagues..
Build up playgrounds
ect..
They are no different than a non-profit organization just under a different name and not registered with a tax ID number

Who in their right mind thinks all white people are bad? Who in their right kind thinks all black people are your friends and have your best interest? Who with a lick of sense gets mad when folks point out the wrong doing of racist folks? The problem is folks know who they are. It only bothers them when others point it out.
