Darren Wilson changed crucial elements in story

Never seen somebody this dedicated to being wrong.

My bad, should have edited....

No, being BLACK wearing a hoodie with your pants sagging in a middle class neighborhood that has had previous break ins and are actively looking for a culprit is incriminating

Better now???

I guess Lil' Wayne deserves a Congressional Medal of Freedom for making black youth think this is cool....

We as blacks will always be stereotyped.... Just saying don't add fuel to the fire

At least there's someone that I can have a decent debate with. And for the record I have always admired your posts and well thought out explanations.

The reason why I brought in the dress with Trayvon was because there were robberies in that area during the time, so that's where the dress came in.... Mabye Carlton Banks was a stretch, but if im walking down a street in a homeowners association neighborhood I would have a umbrella to protect from the rain, not something on that would incriminate me worse than we already are in this society.

As for James Chaney and Medgar Evans, that took place during a totally different time in American History. With those atrocities, plus the intense media scrutiny on police these days I find it Ludacris that Wilson went out of his way to gun down a black young man without any provocation.

As for Zimmerman, I believe that he was wrong from the moment the dispatch said "do not pursue", however I do believe that Martin's choice of dress added to the fact that he was stereotyped by Zimmerman, thus giving him the green light in his mind to not listen to dispatch and go vigilante

Thank you; that's sweet of you to say.

As to what I bolded, key words, "if im walking down a street in a homeowners association neighborhood I would have a umbrella to protect me from the rain, not something would incriminate me......" the child had on a sweatshirt/hoodie! In order to incriminate, you have to first do something that would suggest wrong/illegal/guilt. What did Trayvon do that "incriminated" him? And you mentioned if it were you, what you would have done. It wasn't raining when Trayvon left for the store, but started on his way back. And if it's not raining, there would be no need to take an umbrella. Regardless, he didn't have an umbrella for whatever reason but used what he had (his hoodie) to protect himself from the rain. Just yesterday it rained here where I live and I didn't have an umbrella, but I used my hood to cover my head. Does that make me an "incriminating" person to the VA police where I work?

Also, Trayvon was there visiting his father and stepmother; while he may have been a face unfamiliar to that wannabe cop Zimmerman, he had a legitimate reason for being in the neigborhood. You posted that if Trayvon had dressed like Carlton Banks he would be alive. No. If Zimmerman would have asked if Trayvon lived there or if he was visiting a relative/family, Trayvon would still be living. That hoodie was absolutely no justification for Zimmerman to murder Trayvon. You just proved my point when you posted "Martin's choice of dress added to the fact that he was stereotyped". That's why Trayvon was murdered, no rhyme, no reason, no rationale, just pure old false negativ stereotype.

I'm aware that the murders of James Chaney and Medgar Evers and Dr. King all happened in a different time. Yet, you were the one that brought up dress apparel. So, it's a fact that regardless how we as Black people dress ( and Chaney, Evers, King were all dressed the same), whether it's 1960 or 2014, fear, hatred, false stereotypes and those 5 words ("I feared for my life") are primary reasons why our Black men have been murdered. The truth no longer matters.........and it actually never did when it comes to us.

Let me write this down. " Black men can't wear certain types of clothing because it scares white people and uncle Toms. Got it!

Anything else?

Now in this case I see what you are saying, however if you came to that same car dealership with your pants sagging, golds in your mouth and baggy dress, they probably would have called the cops on you as soon as you flashed the cash. All I'm saying is stereotyping, racism, classism, sexism, and any other ism you can think of is here, and it's not going to change.... You have to adapt and conform... Isn't all this explained in the Good Book??? Just saying we shouldn't feed into it that's all

No, you don't adapt and conform. When you conform, you develop the mindset of the same people that breed hatred, fear, and birth negative stereotype. The Good Book (Bible) says "be NOT conformed by the world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind....." When people renew their minds and let go of all this fear and hatred, then we'll have more peace and rationale and better justice.

In our society today, just being black is incriminating. It's sad, but true. In the particular situation of Trayvon, I believe his clothing added to that stereotype, that's all. That's why I acknowledged it in the post you quoted. That's also why I stated that Zimmerman was wrong for everything that happened after the dispatch said "do not pursue".

As for back then, I wasn't alive, but from what my parents and grandparents have told me, people weren't dressing like the black youth of today, which is why I don't see the correlation between the two. Bottom line, we as blacks need to stop feeding into that negative stereotype, especially when we full well know the consequence of it.

You got it!!!!!! Never said it was right, but that's the hand we as blacks are dealt.... So now we have to play the cards, cause it aint changing, and when it does, you better have your life right with Jesus, cause he's coming right when the moment happens!!!

I totally agree . . .

Good read. Glad that cop was put to justice.

I noticed that kid hadn't robbed a store ten minutes ago and was walking in the middle of the street (Jaywalking) either...

apples to oranges

The cop was NOT put to justice. He is STILL on the police force.

The difference here is that the kid was at his own home accused of stealing his own car and shot in front of his own parents. The cop STILL got off. STILL

And with that renewing of mind, you would grow to understand that sagging your pants, robbing a store, punking a store owner isn't right. We are conforming to the world by saying it's right to steal and carry yourself unbecoming of a black man by sagging your pants and such....

The point I'm trying to make to you is that it doesn't matter how our Black men dress. History has shown us, has somewhat taught us, that it doesn't matter how we dress, or where we live, or how educated we are. Those brothers (Chaney, Evers, King) were all educated, dressed well, and desired equal rights. They were killed. Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown wore urban clothes (hoodies) and didn't reach adulthood. They were murdered.

You said that we as Blacks need to stop feeding into negative stereotypes, but yet you posted that you moved your family out of that environment and don't care what happens back there. Please know that I'm being as respectful as I can be, but it appears you're a prime example of feeding into the stereotype. And I say that based off your posts.

Thanks for admitting you are an Uncle Tom.

This dude's kids must only wear polos and button downs, and peacoats when they are cold. No workout gear. No college sweatshirts with hoods. Lord forbid they make their school's sports team and get the standard issue hoodie.

Thanks for admitting you are an Uncle Tom.

No I admit that stuff aint changing no matter how many marches, protests, people you vote in office, or anything else is going to change the hand we as blacks are dealt. Admit it, get your life right with the Lord, and push forward.....

It's all in the Book!!!!

I just wish black folks would wake up and realize these white folks do not care one IOTA for you. :shame:

Hey you go listen to this guy & applaud him. I'm sure you'd agree

I say I don't care because I have to look out for me and my families well being... They are stuck, don't wanna change and will always be stuck... Those are who can kick rocks in my mind.... Not the few who are trying to come up.... The negative stereotype is there, always will be and it's not going anywhere.... That's all, so I play the hand that's dealt to me as a black man in America....

JM, I never said, nor did anyone on the Forums say that robbing a store is right. While I don't like to see anyone sagging especially our Black brothers, sagging isn't wrong. Do I personally want to see it? No, but just because I don't want to see it Does NOT make it wrong. Nor does it ever justify killing another person or having the wrong thought process you have for that person who does sag. That's what I meant when I said "renewing of your mind". People have to stop going on stereotype and living in fear but rather let wisdom and knowledge provoke their actions and mindset. When that begins to happen, we might see less killing of our Black sons and brothers and cousins.

Just because society has glamorized saggind does not mean the entire world has conformed to it. Again, I guess you haven't read where Forum posters have started threads about how sagging laws have been enforced in their hometowns and on some college campuses.

That's all I'm trying to say in a nutshell..... I just don't think after all the testimony regarding Wilson, he killed Brown with that intent in mind. White folks don't care, never have and never will..... That's the hand we as blacks are dealt.... now play your hand and stop trying to ask for a redeal.....

Oh, so we should just stop demanding to be treated humanely?

But we should dress a certain way to conform?

You are confused and filled with so much self-hate that it's sad. Just sad.
